November 5, 2003

Sunday November 2nd, 2003

A little after I woke up this morning I was a little worried. When did I last feel her move? I wasn’t sure, so I laid down for a while waiting to feel a flutter. I didn’t feel a whole lot but enough for me to get into the shower in order to get ready for church. We went to the 11am church service. I did feel her move a little while sitting in church so I felt better about that.
After church we went through Wendy’s drive thru. I just love their new chicken strips with Ranch dressing. Yum! We came home ate and hoped that Analisa would take a nap. I thought it would be fun to take her to see Brother Bear. There was a 5pm show. I don’t think she ever took her nap.
Around 3pm I was getting restless. I decided that we should go out before the show. I am in search for Christmas dresses for the girls. I really want to find ones in their sizes that match. The only one I could find that comes in both an infant and a toddler size that I like is the one Analisa wore last year. So, I did not find anything. I hope to soon.
While walking around the mall, I felt a couple of contractions. But nothing major. They were like ones I have had before. We continued to walk around a bit but I was becoming slower. Scott asked if I still wanted to go to the show and I said yes. They say to wait until contractions are 5-7 mins apart for an hour. So I figure the movie is probably about 90 mins long so we will wait to see if they stick around.
We figured we would just eat a small dinner at the show. The only thing that looked somewhat good to me was the nachos. I only had a little though, they didn’t taste too great.
As soon as we sat down the contractions were becoming consistent. I asked Scott, if he had his watch and of course of all days he didn’t but he had his pager so I used that to time how far apart they were. They were coming about every 4-5 mins for an hour. Scott asked me if we should leave but I wanted Analisa to see her movie and I guess I was in denial that this was the real thing. During the last part of the movie they were getting closer. They were now every 3-4 mins apart. I had gotten up a few times during the movie to use the washroom. We also sat in the back row so I could get up and walk if needed. It was need somewhat. Especially since I was getting horrible low back pains.
When the show ended I knew that we were going to go to the hospital even if it was not the real thing. This needed to be checked out. I called the Labor & Delivery department when we got into the car and they said to come in. Next, I called my parents so they could watch Analisa while we were there. I was still in denial and told them I was just going to get checked out. But they waited in the waiting room anyhow. I guess, that was a good thing since I wanted my Mom in the room with Scott and me. I was happy also that I had coloring books and crayons in my purse for Analisa.
So I got to the ER where they had the L&D nurse (Katina) come and wheel me up to the floor. I was still feeling the contractions. My back was really hurting. I got up to the room around 7pm. They checked me and I was 6cm. I was shocked. I was stuck between 2-3cm for weeks. So now that I knew this was the real thing, I was excited. Mom came back to the room. Dad and Analisa stayed out in the waiting room. Jillian and Anthony joined them sometime later, before she was born.
I was in pain but not too bad. I told them I could wait a little longer for the epidural but that I wanted it. Katina said she would order it now, in case I went really fast and missed my chance. Well, shortly after I said I could wait I was ready for it. When I got my epidural with Analisa I was already hooked up to Pitocin. So I was in so much pain and was crying the whole time the Anesthesiologist was putting it in. This time was not bad at all. The Doc that gave it to me was great. Last time, it also didn’t work for me so this time when it took pretty much right away I was excited. I think at this time I was at 8 cm. I don’t remember what time it was though. I was stuck at 7 or 8 for a little while so they started a small amount of Pitocin. I was fine with this since I had my epidural and was feeling good.
The epidural did not last the whole time unfortunately but it helped during some contractions that could have been pretty painful. The doc said I probably moved and the cathedral (sp?) could have fallen out a little. Because towards the end of labor my back was KILLING me again, but it was so much worse now.
Anyways, it was close to 10pm and I was feeling the urges to push but when Katina checked me she said I was only at 9cm. It was so hard to fight back those pushes. But at 10pm I was 10cm and ready to push. YEAH! I got the mirror positioned so I got to watch her head crown and her come out, which is just the most amazing thing ever. Abriella Rae was born at 10:17pm. Seventeen mins of pushing was not bad. I pushed Analisa out in 28 minutes so I was happy that I beat my old time !
She was sunny side up, so that explained the horrible back labor I had. But she was definitely worth every minute of it. She scored 9s on her Apgar tests. And everything was great. I am so lucky and so blessed to have 2 beautiful and amazing daughters. God has blessed me!
