Nicole's Diary Entries

October 20, 2003

Oh it has been a little bit since I wrote last. We have been battling a cold in our house for all most two weeks now. Neither Alex nor I can shake it off. I find myself having those deep chest coughs that make me gag. Alex has been having them too, but luckily not at night. We both have a routine now to take our morning meds, which taste horrible, and our evening meds, which still tastes horrible for me, but luckily Alex likes his evening meds. Why can’t they make adult meds grape flavored too? ;o) I have completely used up all my sick time, and am unfortunately eating into my vacation time. Not that it matters much as I will be let go before the holidays. I plan on using one day at least for the day after Thanksgiving. I haven’t had it off for all most five years. That is the down side to working in the banking industry. Plus side is the odd bank holidays we get off. Days off are always a plus.

** Alex’s glasses, a brand new world to see**

Last week I roused myself enough to get Alex early from school and took him to pick up his new glasses. He immediately noticed a difference and commented on little things like details in the carpet and wallpaper. He even asked me if the leaves moved on the tree before he had glasses. It makes me a bit sad to think of all the little things he hasn’t been able to see. Everything is a new experience for him. We took him through a car wash this weekend and he LOVED the water and soap on the windows. He could actually see the different colors on the foam wax this time.

He is doing okay with treating them properly. He sometimes tries to play with his glasses, and we are all ready thankful that we got the flexon frames. Casey found his glasses on the floor at school last week, and to top it all off a little girl was beating them with a book. Daddy went off on that whole thing. Luckily though, Alex has been very good about keeping them on and wearing them all the time. He genuinely likes them. Yahoo!

** No move for us **
We have decided to stay put for another year. This next year will be a big year for us to get all our finances in order and plan on buying a house. Which means we will need to start looking for a house to buy in July of next year, maybe September. Luckily DH has family in the real estate field, so we have a realtor and lender that are willing to help us and not take commissions! Gotta love that. I really need to keep this goal in the fore front of my thoughts. I tend to get so wrapped up in daily life that I forget the goals we have set for ourselves. DH on the other hand always has goals in mind. Sigh at least we balance each other, I just wish I was more like DH in that area. I am sure it would help us a lot!

** Air show **

We went to an air show down here this weekend, we saw the twilight show. Some of those jets and planes are AMAZING! The blue angels were great! We can see them from our balcony when they practice and fly out for turn abouts during the show. We even got some good pictures of them this weekend. Alex really enjoyed the time at the air base. They did a 2,000 foot wall of fire, we were walking out to the parking lot when they set it off and were still amazed by it from so far away. It light up the entire sky! Plus did some pretty loud booms. Alex was a bit worried about the fire in the sky. But was quickly distracted when he saw some fire trucks and police. That boy loves cars and planes.

Well I am going to sign off for now. My cold meds have yet to kick in and I am literally laying ion my chair. :O) But hey I am here at work at least. LOL!

Happy Birthday to Daddy. We love you!!

Hope everyone is safe and sound.
