October 4, 2003
Whew! I have finally had a chance to sit down and write an entry. Life has been busy this week! The weather has changed and I have to say that I love it dearly!! The chill in the air makes me smile and the cloudy days are perfect, I do not miss the sun at all! LOL! Anyways, I feel as if our family plate is brimming with so much to do, to plan, to complete. I think that entry will be a long one. Alex has had some interesting things happen. DH is busy busy and busy. I have tons of things up in the air all of which I am trying to juggle. **sigh** I know that it will all work out, I just have to wait for that to happen and try not to stress myself out in the process.
** Alex and the Eye Doctor **
In a past entry I talked about the possibility that Alex might have Strabismus, well after booking an appointment with an Children’s Strabismus specialist over 3 months ago (?!), we finally had him tested.
Now just for some background, I was diagnosed with Strabismus when I was a child. My mom said that I woke up from a nap one day and my right eye was completely turned in. I had three surgeries and over the years lost most of my sight in that eye, my brain has stopped sending vision signals to it. Basically I can see out of it, but it is very blurry and is mostly Peripheral type vision. It also wanders, especially when I am tired. I have always had to deal with people turning and looking over their shoulder when I am talking to them because they think that I am not looking at them. Now it doesn’t happen all the time, but it does happen. Enough that it really bothered me when I was a child and now I just tolerate it. My DH says he stopped noticing it after the first day we met, but he does tell me when it is really happening and he uses it as a gauge for how tired I am. LOL! Well years later I found out that I had been misdiagnosed, it was actually severe far sidedness and all of it could have been corrected with glasses had my parents taken me to eye doctor’s regularly like they should have.
NOTE TO PARENTS: TAKE YOUR CHILDREN TO ALL THEIR FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENTS AND DO REGULAR CHECKUPS!!! GET SECOND OPINIONS AS WELL!
Okay I am not trying to preach but I want everyone to know that my eye problem is simply a matter of my parents’ lack of follow through and they failed to get second opinions. Doctor’s CAN be wrong. They are not GOD, so please, for the sake of your children and as your parental responsibility, please get everything checked out.
Off my soap box now. :O)
Anyways, back to Alex. I had been keeping an eye on him since day one for any eye problems, since I did not want him to have to go through what I did. Well he did very well at the appointment and has been diagnosed with far sidedness. He has to get glasses! We picked out a very cute set of frames that have Flexon, so he can literally bend them in half and they snap right back into shape, very very cool! Of course they cost a load of money, but they will last until he grows out of them and he looks cute! ;o) Alex has to go back for a follow up appointment in four weeks to make sure that one eye is not dominate over the other, if so, we will have to do patches to correct it. I hated patches as a kid and always had a bad rash from the adhesive. Here’s hoping he just needs the glasses.
I just wanted to talk about the doctor’s for a minute. He saw three doctors’ that specialize in Children’s Opathmology. They were FABULOUS!! And made a big point of triple checking each others diagnoses of Alex. It is well worth the time and energy to go to specialists, do it if you can! Their office was located at Children’s Hospital and let me tell you, there are some amazing children there. We met a little boy in the elevator that is a leukemia patient and we told him that we are doing the Light the Night walk around the harbor in two weeks. He was SOOOO excited that we were going to do the walk to raise some money to help out the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We got his name and age and will write them on our Glowing balloon that we all receive for walking. He was a gem and I hope all the best for him. Plus he had a cool hat on that he let Alex try on. God, those kids are so humble and loving. It is so amazing. Oh now I am gonna cry. :o) I want to help them all!!!
** Lease is up, time to move? **
Well we got a notice that our lease will expire on November 30th and if we want to stay we need to sign a new lease that does have a rent hike of $100, or let them know by October 30th that we are moving out. Our apartment is HUGE over 1300 square feet on the top floor of an apartment building with a FABULOUS view. It has tons of perks and is honestly not over priced because we got in on a great deal two years ago. Well I have been looking around out area as well as other areas for a possible new apartment. Everything out there is smaller and more expensive then what we currently have. I think we are going to stay here for another year, really work on our finances and buy a house in a year. Housing here is Southern CA is outrageous, I hope it goes down a little by the time we are ready to buy. In the mean time, I am going to try and get our house in tip top shape, and purge all the junk I can, our closets are stuffed and we have even started storing things in Alex’s bathtub and just have him bathe in ours. Oh that is sooo bad. LOL! I can’t believe I just confessed that, but hey admitting the problem is the first step right?! LOL!
** The Company ship is sinking **
My job sucks, well I should say that the company I work for sucks. It looks like the company will be closing by year-end, but of course they have not told anyone. I only know because I have done some digging. No severance, and no retention bonuses for those who stay till the last days. I am hoping that I can hold out till the last days to simply get Unemployment. I have a job lined up at DH’s company, just have to wait for them to be ready to add me to the staff. It would be nice to be done at the current job in early December, have the holidays off, and then start the new job at the beginning of the year. I hope that is how it all works out. It is sad to see how the company is falling apart. It is really eating up my boss, since he is the CEO and he feels horrible that over 75 employees will be out on their rears. The market here in Southern CA is not good for this industry, there are simply not that many jobs right now. ;o(
** On the Flipside **
DH’s job is GREAT!! They have just submitted a proposal for a Million dollar contract with the Government, which it looks as if they will get! DH is so excited about it, and he has every right to be! His company wouldn’t have even known about this contract had they not brought him on. So of Course the owners are glad they did. DH is one of those amazing people who excel in any arena you put them into. I am in Awe of him. Good job Honey!
** Mom’s birthday present for Two **
My mother’s birthday was on the 1st. I am a bit late on her present but it is well worth the wait for both of us. ;o) I bought us a full day package for a day spa where we will both be pampered and massaged to our delights! This will be my mom’s first time ever for a manicure and Pedicure, massage, facial, and mud treatment. She is sooooo excited. I personally just cannot wait to relax and forget for a day all my troubles. This will basically be my last hurrah in the money-spending department. So I am going to eat it up! Tomorrow we are all going to Disneyland to celebrate my mom’s birthday. Tonight Alex and I are heading up to their house and will spend the night there just to make things easier for tomorrow. DH is coming up tomorrow morning as he had to work today and will need to do some work tonight as well. So off to Poppa’s and Popma’s house Alex and I go tonight for some home cooking, playing, and relaxing time. Alex loves to visit there, me too! I am such a Daddy’s girl. LOL!
** PMS Queen **
Oh my aching back, my aching head, my swollen body. UGH PMS is no fun. And my raging emotions GEES, they have been out of control. I have been off the pill since April, and let me tell you I am much better off without it, because I no longer am a RAGING PMS Bitch all month long, only for a couple days. LOL! I took Midol this month for the first time in 10 years. I was kind of confused with all the types of Midol that is out on the market now. Midol Teen, PMS, MS, Nighttime, Caffeine free, etc. The Teen is the only one that I could not figure out. What’s the difference? So now I am just waiting for the visitor to show up. I just know that it will happen at Disneyland. So I am coming prepared. :O) Not only will the backpack have spare Alex clothes and an emergency Pull up but emergency Mommy gear too! I bet the security checkers at the gates have seen weirder stuff before though. :o)
** A Full Calendar **
I swear that October is the busiest month for us. We have 5 birthdays, our wedding anniversary, and another weekend at Disneyland with our neighbors who have never been, a trip to Knott’s Scary farm for DH and I, a trip to Bate’s Nut Farm for Pumpkins and Gourds, a Spa day for Mom and me, and the normal everyday life! Every weekend is booked and November is filling up too! When am I going to find time to Shop for the holidays?
** A Cheaper Costco trip **
Well I have been trying to cut corners on our family spending. Costco usually comes out to $200 twice a month, plus all the little trips we do at the local Grocery store. So I made a list this time and we stuck to it. But then we blew it by going to VONS and buying junk food and Pear Cider for a junk food late dinner for DH and I. LOL! Anyways, we only spent $75 dollars at Costco last night! Yahoo! The fact we are not buying Pull-Ups and wipes any more really helps, plus we had all ready stocked up on our canned goods and paper products. Family Budgeting is something I really have to get under control. I am amazed at how much money we throw away on crap. Ugh! We could be in a house right now had we done this years ago! What were we thinking, why have I been so LAZY? Ugh!
** Talk to me **
So here are a couple questions for you gals.
How much does your family spend a month on food?
Any great Budgeting tips?
Any tips on Kids with Glasses?
How do you deal with PMS and MS, because we all know that the symptoms do not stop as soon as you start. :o)
And just for Fun, if you were a crayon what color would you be and why?
I’ll post my color on my TTM board and thanks to all the ladies that showed me people really are out there reading my rants. :o) You girlies are the best!
