Nicole's Diary Entries

September 7, 2003

Hi everyone: Sorry for the delay last week. Bad news at work, they have sold 3/4 of our business and we will lose 3/4 of our staff. I am not certain what that means for my job, but I am all ready looking. Better to be safe then sorry.

**Alex's new school, the Montessori experience**

I can sum it up in two words! FAB ULOUS! :O) *heehehe* We noticed a difference immediately. He talks clearer, says please and thank you ALLLLLLL the time, and even picks up after himself. This lady is awesome! She is gentle but firm, teaches lessons everyday, does educational music, serves very nutritious snacks, and is very understanding with our potty training. More on PT later. Alex comes home happy and excited every night. AND one mega bonus that I have discovered is that I am not as grumpy in that hour between walking in the door and dinner. It is odd, simply having my morning and afternoon drives to myself have made me a happier person. LOL! I do still miss that extra time with Alex, but now that I see what good it is doing me to have some time solo I am feeling better about it all. Who wouldn't! I highly recommend Montessori school to anyone who can find one, get in, and handle the payments. Our school is actually 16 dollars cheaper a month then his last daycare that we had so many problems with. Funny how that works out.

** The brown one with blue socks**

We went to the Del Mar Race track today. My husband's best friend had reserved a dinning table and invited us along. When we got to will call to pick up his tickets, they couldn't find his reservation so we had to go to an office, after about 15 minutes they found his dinning reservations but refused to give us his tickets that he had purchased also. While we waited another 10 minutes a super sweet lady there felt bad for us so she gave us 4 free tickets to get in so we wouldn't miss the first race. So we ended up with free tickets for us since we still needed to buy ours. Alex’s was free. Yahoo! Once inside we got our table and got Alex all settled with OJ and a hotdog. Us adults got a bottle of Champagne from the winery that Casey and I were married at and turkey sandwiches. Yum. Alex LOVED being so close to the horses and Daddy placed bets on every race from Alex's picks. :O) He actually placed every race with his picks. His last pick, "the brown one with blue socks" won. Now before I get any flaming messages about mixing children and gambling, please let me say that I will not respond to any of them as I feel we did nothing wrong. Alex was by far one of MANY children there and it was a great family day. Next...

** Pet Kingdom is the best**

We went visiting to a super Pet store this weekend. They had hundreds of lizards, snacks, frogs, Turtles, and fishes. They had a 700-pound tortoise named Brutus. He was HUGE!!! Alex loved looking at all the animals but ran away from a lose cricket. :o) Let me tell you I totally understand that fear. Yuck to the crickets. Blah! Needless to say we will be returning as the staff was very friendly and brought out all sorts of reptiles for Alex to pet and even let him feed some turtles. What a great way to spend two hours, entertaining, educational, and free!

**Potty Training**

Alex is doing much better. He did have two poopy accidents at school last week. His first poopy accidents EVER! We think it was just the combination of a new school, nerves, and not remembering where the potty was. He is also asking to go potty every fifteen minutes when we are out and about. He doesn't have to go each time, which makes me think he is nervous about having an accident. He gets upset when he starts to leak or gets wet. We have been putting him in a Pull-up when we go out sometimes simply because we don't know if we will always be near a potty and he tends to forget to tell us when he needs to go when he is involved in something. But we are getting there. :O)

** Flylady is slowly becoming my friend**

I decided to resub to Flylady to try and take baby steps for housecleaning and keeping. I am proud to say that my laundry situation has been under control for all most a month and the general up keep of the house has been much better. :O) Yahoo for me! I am slowly falling into small cleaning routines and have all ready seen the rewards. When Alex got sick in the middle of the night a couple weeks ago I was so proud that I had bunches of clean towels to use and his bedroom floor was clean so there wasn't any toys to get sick on and step on in the wee hours! And my kitchen has been clean all most every night.

We have a dinner party for our friends every month and on Friday before everyone showed up I had all most NO cleaning to do! Yahoo! That was great since I am usually a basket case before everyone comes over. This time I was actually able to enjoy myself. My husband even commented on it. So kudos to Flylady and to me! Yeah I know I am tooting my own horn but this is a BIG step for me!

** Things Alex is enjoying**

Italian Sodas, Vanilla, only made by Daddy though
The train museum in Balboa Park
"Hiding" under his comforter while we "find" him. :O)
Frozen grapes
Spy Kids, but not the thumbs-thumbs, those are bad.
His Scooby Doo purple bath foam
His Elmo bath toy Pirate Ship.
His new light up shoes, especially when some one notices them or in the frozen food section doors.
Going to school in Daddy's car
Our neighbors who bring Alex vegan sugar free cookies, which he loves. And we love since they don’t crack him out.

Tell next time, huggles and mommy vibes to all who need them.
