Nicole's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
December 30, 2002
I have many “greatest days of my life” that range from my wedding day to the birthdays of my boys. Now you may think I am crazy to add Christmas Morning 2002 to this list, but it was truly amazing.
We spent Christmas a couple of hours away in the town that my mom grew up in. My Grandma and Aunts all live there so we all spent Christmas together. We rented out the hockey arena and spent 4 hours on Christmas Eve skating, playing hockey, having races and of course some figure skating competitions. It was so much fun! My two little cousins both play hockey and they were decked out in all of their gear trying hard to slip a move past my dad. Maxwell’s eyes were as big as saucers the entire night. We had hot chocolate and a big tray of Great Grandma Goodies! It was an amazing night! We left the rink at 10:00 and headed out to Grandma’s farm to open Christmas Eve gifts.
The drive from the rink to the farm is about 20 minutes and we thought Maxwell would be long gone by then, but the kids had instilled the excitement of Christmas Eve gifts in him and he wouldn’t dare blink never mind fall asleep! When we arrived at the farm all of the kids we filled with renewed energy while the parents fought to keep their eyes open! On the count of three the opening began! Maxwell was dying laughing and was thrilled to find a brand new pair of hockey jammies! “Look Mommy” he said with a huge smile on his face. It was awesome. He asked if he could put them on and I said of course. But he didn’t want Mommy’s help. He followed the kids into the back room where they all proceed to ditch their hockey clothes and try on their new Christmas Jammies. They helped Max into his and then they came out in a line to do a fashion show! I was laughing so hard! It was great.
After the models had concluded their show we packed back into the cars to head to my Aunts house for the night. This time the car ride claimed Maxwell and we carried him upstairs, new jammies and all. Now it was Mike’s time to shine. It was finally time to set up the spring horse! We had so much fun. We ate goodies and played games until 2:00am and then we were off to bed.
Finally it was Christmas morning. I woke up to see Maxwell standing over our blow up mattress on the floor. He said “let’s go see what Santa brought me Mom!” So we hopped out of bed and headed down the huge staircase at my Aunts house. At the bottom sat the spring horse that “Santa” had delivered during the night. Maxwell was in complete awe. He asked if it was for him and I said yes. He walked over and instantly turned into a full-fledged cowboy. It was by far the cutest thing that I have ever seen. Now up until Christmas Day if you asked Maxwell what he wanted he just said gum. Well low and behold what was his stocking filled with? He was so excited!
And then, as if all of the Santa stuff wasn’t enough, the Christmas present opening began. He didn’t even know where to start. He kept pointing to all of the presents asking if they were his (and sadly most of them were!) and when we said yes he torn into like a wild man! Mike and I didn’t even touch our gifts until he was finished. It was so much fun to watch him open his gifts. Everything that he got he was so thrilled with. And what was the best part? Well before he opened each gift we told him whom they were from and as soon as he had torn through the colorful wrapping he would race over and give that person a hug and say thank you. My heart was overflowing.
The rest of our Christmas break was wonderful. Very relaxing and it was so nice to spend every second with Maxwell. We returned home on Boxing Day to start packing. Merry Christmas. Is there a worse job? Mike turned into the Packing Nazi and wouldn’t let me rest at all! Max is a bit unsure about us packing his toys, but his new horse “Stormy” has been a nice distraction.
As I sit at my desk (working hard as you can tell) and still have a smile on my face. I needed nothing for Christmas but to see Maxwell’s face. Those of us that call ourselves parents are so incredibly lucky. Every second of our lives become enriched by these perfect little people whom we get to watch experience every, single thing for the first time. I am astounded at how even when I think parenting could not get any better, it does. I am so incredibly excited to welcome this new baby into our family. I am excited to start again, and witness all the “firsts” all over again.
I hope that all of you had a wonderful Christmas. As you can tell the Holiday Season is still strong within me. I did go to visit my little Clayton and I feel a bit better. He was very missed, but also very loved this holiday. Thank you all for your kind words on my board.
Have a wonderful week and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Love as always…Nicole and lump!
