Thank you all so much for your responses to my last entry! I can’t tell you how much all of the support meant to me. The women in this community are unreal.
Ok, back to our little surprise…
Honestly, I have no memory of the hour or so after I delivered our surprise son. I think I was in shock, seriously. I felt panicked and unprepared for our new little miracle. Our little Cierra definitely needed a new name, but we hadn’t even thought about it. So after very little deliberation my maiden name became the new name of our beautiful baby boy, Maxwell Gregory. (I still love that! My dad had three girls so this was our way of carrying on the family name!) Max and I left the hospital 3 days after his birth...both wearing pink.
Fast forward to 5 weeks old...
Maxwell’s cough had become increasingly worse. I finally got a referral to a pediatrician and I rushed over immediately. When we got into the exam room one of his coughing spells began and then the single most horrible moment of my life, Maxwell stopped breathing. Even as I type this I feel sick inside. The doctor ran out and yelled for a nurse. They worked quickly to resuscitate him and immediately sent us to the hospital. At the hospital I sat in the hall crying as they tried to start an IV. It was horrible. When I went back into the room my heart sank. Maxwell was lying in a very large metal crib, in only a diaper, with what seemed like hundreds of wires connected to him. The doctor arrived shortly after and told me that he had Whooping Cough. Apparently it takes 5 weeks for this to surface after contracting it, which meant he probably got it while in the hospital after birth. We had to contact every single person that we had been in contact with over that period of time so that they could be put on antibiotics and Max and I were stuck in that room on confinement for 10 days. During those 10 days Maxwell had to be resuscitated twice more. I was so thankful to get out of that hospital I can’t even tell you!
Ok, a few quick stats...
First Hockey Game – 3 days old (see, it’s in his blood!)
First Word – Daddy (Of course, isn’t it always?)
Walking – 3 Days before his 10 month birthday (Oh my gosh, that is all I can say)
All his teeth – 18 months (Hello teething rings!)
First stitches – 20 Months (Coffee table accident, 6 stitches above his eye, didn’t even cry!)
And now the two year old...
I must say that every single stage of this parenting thing gets more fun! I love this age! I swear he is learning something new everyday. His vocabulary is incredible and he really has never spoken in baby language, he annunciates his words very clearly. He has a wonderful sense of humor and is constantly making me laugh…some examples you say...SURE!
~The Brady Book – Max has a series of books called the Brady Brady books. They are about a little guy who loves hockey. There is one picture that shows the whole hockey team on the bench. One of the little hockey players is African American. Maxwell kept looking at him. He knew something was different about him but didn’t know how to express it. Finally after about the 10th time we read it he said, “Look Mommy, lights out!” I guess that was his way of saying he was dark. I thought that was very smart!
~The Magazine – while we were standing in line one day at the grocery store there was a picture of a model in a nude colored bikini jumping out of a cake. We were standing at the front of the line with about 3 other carts lined up behind us and Maxwell pointed to the picture and said, “Look Mommy Sexy Body!” I about died! (Just to clarify there have been a few times when jokingly I have said “Wow sexy body Max!”...as you can imagine, we don’t say this anymore!) :)
~Halloween – I didn’t expect to take Maxwell Trick-or-Treating this year, I just figured he wouldn’t be interested…I was wrong. We went with my neighbor and her two year old from house to house. We would talk about the inside of our neighbor’s home as we walked to the next house. At about the 7th house Maxwell received his candy and peeked his head inside their home and said, “Oh, Nice House!”
Ok enough already! Now that you all know a bit of our history I will begin to write more about my growing little man. As far as our TTC efforts go we found out that the pill is not an option for us. When I get pregnant I get OC, and when I am on the pill my body thinks I am pregnant. So no pill for me. We are going to continue to try, but I won’t be temping, or charting we are just going to let it happen. (That is if my damn husband ever stays home! Ha! Ha! Ha!)
Well, I hope that everyone has a great week. Good luck to all of the ladies on precon and Congrats to all of the new mommies on PG!
Talk to you all soon!
Love Nicole
