Nicole's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

April 10, 2003

I can’t believe that I am already at the 25-week mark. It is INSANE how fast this pregnancy is going. The baby is moving around tons now. I just love that. I can remember after I had Maxwell I was standing in the kitchen one day making dinner and I felt a flutter. Without even thinking I reached down and touched my stomach. Then I turned and saw Maxwell sitting in his highchair and realized that there is no way that it was a baby making that flutter! LOL!

One thing that I never really touched on is the fact that I HATE maternity pants. I bought a few pairs when I was first pregnant with Maxwell and I never wore them. So now I make my own. Now don’t get all excited…I don’t even own a sewing machine so we aren’t talking “made them from scratch” or anything insane like that. Most of my maternity pants we purchased on the Gap sale rack. I pick up a pair of dress pants or cords or something in the size that I was before I was pregnant and take them home. Then I just cut the front out and add a panel. Simple. Easy. Good. They actually fit EVERYWHERE! I find maternity pants so baggy in the bum. So I guess you could say this is my “Tip of the Day”!

We have been discussing names a lot lately. I am very weary to post any but I guess I will be glad I did when I look back and say, “What were we thinking?” I have wanted a daughter named Sophia for as long as I can remember. But then last year I met a Sophia who totally turned me off of that name, so we were back to the drawing board. Here are the front-runners:

~Olivia Jane – I love that we could call her “Livie”…I think that is my favorite part.
~Audrey Jane – This is my favorite but I hate that the shortened version is “Aud”. I don’t really want my daughter being called “Odd”
~Isabelle Jane – Isabelle is Mike’s great grandmothers name and Jane is my great grandmothers name. This is by far the family choice…

Now boy names are much harder. Maxwell was such a given. I always knew that I would use my maiden name for my first-born son. Mike loved it. I loved it. It was easy. This time is WAY harder. I am VERY particular about boy names. They have to be strong, grown up names. Now I am afraid to tell you what we like…oh well here goes…My favorite boy name has been Macgregor for a long time. Mike hates it though so I don’t think that I am going to get my way. Mike hasn’t been able to pick any boy names that he likes so we have been at a stand still…until last night.

One of my best friends in high school was named Cody. He was the All American jock who was accepted to every ivy-league school around. His Dad was a professional football player so we always had a special bond. He walked my mom down the aisle at my wedding and has always been a special person in my life. Mike and him have become good friends over the past few years and when I got home last night Mike had just gotten off of the phone with him. He said that if we have a boy he wants to name him Cody. He said that he couldn’t think of a better person to name our baby after. And I really can’t agree more. So I guess Cody is the number one name right now. Hey Cody Macgregor….hmmmm…..

I am officially finished work on May 30th (as long as all goes well) and I can’t wait. I think that I will probably close my diary at this time. I don’t have a computer at home and updating would just be too hard. I have talked to Steph and I will probably send an update every now and then to her board.

I have been thinking a lot about the day I deliver. I always thought that I would be one of those people who would only want Mike in the delivery room, but after having Maxwell I have changed my mind a bit. I can’t think of anything more exciting than witnessing someone giving birth. I have thought a lot about inviting my Mom and my two sisters into the delivery room with Mike and I. I am still undecided but I would love to hear from some of you who have allowed other people to witness the birth of your baby. Would you do it again?

Well onto Maxwell. What a topic. This week he experienced his first bought with Pink Eye. I have no idea where he picked this up but it came on with a vengeance! When he was a baby he had a plugged tear duct for a few weeks and I thought that was gross…NO COMPARRISION! The poor kid was covered in eye goop for two days. Thankfully the medication has kicked in and he look like a real boy again!

Maxwell can sing all of his ABC’s and isn’t afraid to do so for anyone who asks. He also knows all of the capitals of South America. No I am not some psycho parent who drills their child with flash cards every night before bed…maybe worse! LOL! When I was in 7th grade Spanish class we learned a little song that named all of the capitals of South America. I started singing it to Max a long time ago and now he knows the song perfectly! Caracas Venezuela, Bogotá Columbia, Quito Ecuador, Lima Peru…

On the 16th I turn the big 2 – 4. All I have asked Mike for is a nice camera. I made the mistake of allowing Maxwell to play with mine for a spit second and he dropped it off of a dock at a lake. So I have been without a camera for about a year. I decided against requesting a digital…I guess I am still not sold on those things.

That is about it for now. I hope that you all have a wonderful week.

Love Nicole
