OPRAH IS MY QUEEN ~
I had to take off early from work the other day to take my sick little Maxwell to the doctor. I went to get him from Mom’s house and had a few minutes to spare, so her and I tuned into Oprah. The show was about postpartum depression and about motherhood in general. I only caught the last few minutes but that was enough to determine that I love Oprah. The women on her show spoke about how being a new mother in North America is so hard. They explained that in most other countries they have a “60 Day Rule”. All new mothers are supposed to do for 60 days after giving birth is fall in love with her child. Isn’t that beautiful? All the women in the town get together and clean and cook so she can focus on getting well and getting to know her new baby. Can you imagine if it were like that here? Sign me up. That’s all I have to say.
GUS NO MORE ~
After our first encounter with our friend “Gus” the mouse, Mike loaded our kitchen with mousetraps. For three days we woke up to find empty mousetraps with every speck of peanut butter licked off. Mike was so frustrated! Finally this morning we found our little friend, fat and full, under the cupboard. At least he died happy right?
…STINGS LIKE A BEE ~
Red has had his first encounter with a beehive. Boy that didn’t take long! On Sunday we were playing out in the yard and we heard him yelp. I ran over to see what the problem was and found a HUGE beehive under the back steps. (Ah the House from Hell just keeps delivering!) Well, Red got stung on his eyelid and instantly it looked like we had beaten the poor guy! His eye swelled shut and he whined all night. He is looking better now…thank goodness!
SARS ~
I am not sure how many of you have heard of the terrible outbreak of the SARS virus in Canada. It is very scary. 7 people have died already and hospitals are being quarantined. Luckily no cases have been reported near us but some of the news stations make it sound like it is only a matter of time. I had to take Max to the doctor the other day after he woke up with a temperature of 104 that we couldn’t seem to get down. The office was full of tons of people who thought that they had SARS. Hello paranoia! Our doctor was so happy to see someone who had a real problem I got the impression that he didn’t want us to leave! He thinks that Max may have a mild respiratory infection. Apparently children that have RSV or Whooping Cough when they are babies are much more prone to such infections. So Max is taking a few antibiotics and is already feeling much better.
WHERE ARE THE APRIL SHOWERS? ~
April Fools Day had us all fooled this year. Instead of April showers we were blessed with April snow. YUCK! Spring where are you? Come back…please!
PREGNANCY NEWS…GETTING WORRIED ~
From the looks of me you would think that I am having a wonderfully, healthy pregnancy. I am round and glowing. Unfortunately the glow is from the skin I have scratched raw! (And the round is due more to cookies than baby! LOL!) The steroids have done nothing to reduce the itchiness and I am quite frankly dying. This Cholestasis thing is so strange. During the day I feel ok. I hardly notice the itching. But come nighttime I can barely function. I can’t sleep at all. So currently my main problem is lack of sleep. I think I may have to reevaluate just how long I am going to work this time. A nap here and there would make me feel so much better! I don’t have my next appointment until April 30th so I am going to give it until then until I make a decision. Other than being itchy everything is fine. The baby is moving around tons. It is different than Max and Clay though. This baby doesn’t seem to kick as often as it flips. Maybe I have an acrobat in there! LOL!
THE VICIOUS CYCLE ~
My biggest craving with this pregnancy is bread. I want it all the time. The problem? All the bread I eat tastes moldy! What a horribly vicious cycle! I also crave sweet things and I can easily finish off a whole bag of Kettle Corn myself! Hmmmm…I wonder where that 8 pound weight gain came from?
MAX AND THE NUMBER 11 ~
Max has a full fledged cold. The other morning on the way to work I had to pull over 8 times because Maxwell had sneezed and had big “# 11” boogers hanging down the front of his face! Oh the joys!
His addiction to Popsicles seems to be increasing on a daily basis. All he wants for supper is “pisgetti” and cucumbers and he won’t drink any milk! He doesn’t even like chocolate milk!
Mike was setting up our mousetraps the other night and couldn’t get one to stay set. He said “What the?” and Maxwell tuned in with a big “HELL?”! Ah great, apparently he is listening!
I was washing the dished the other night and Maxwell wanted to be naked. Fine. He took his clothes off and was having a wonderful time. I finished up and walked into the family room to find him pooping on the floor! I asked him what he was doing and he said he was being a puppy. I think we are going to have to teach him a few things about pretending.
QUESTIONS:
1. My biggest struggle as a Mom is making time to do things for myself. With working full time I feel so guilty choosing to spend time by myself over time with Maxwell. Have any of you faced this struggle? What have you done to overcome it?
2. I am not planning on breastfeeding this baby. I have been through the “drying up” process twice before and I am dreading it. Do any of you have any helpful hints on how to ease the pain?
3. Maxwell has no cool toys. I can’t seem to find anything that holds his attention for longer that a minute! He currently seems to enjoy LEGO the most but I was wondering if any of you had found a wonderful toy or game that your two year old just can’t get enough of.
4. My feet grew a size and a half when I was pregnant with Maxwell! Did any of you experience this?
Well I hope that you all have a wonderful week! I posted some pictures of Red and Maxwell on my board. Feel free to stop by and take a peek!
Love Nicole
