Am I insane? You be the judge…

Mike pulled up to the house the other night and I looked out the window. I saw him waving for me to come out. So Max and I trotted out to meet him. When I opened his truck door to say hi I saw the most perfect little puppy ever lying on the seat beside him. I had no idea what to say. Maxwell nearly jumped out of his skin with excitement! I was totally speechless…I mean, call me crazy but isn’t adding a puppy to the family something that a husband and wife normally discuss? Mike quickly picked up on the “very friendly” vibe I was sending him and turned into the 6 year old I have often know him as! “Oh Nic! Can we keep him? Please Nic let us keep him! I couldn’t resist! I know I should have talked to you first but just look at him. Come on Nic! Don’t be mad, can I keep him?” I turned around to see Max and the puppy in a complete embrace and decided at this point I really had no choice. Now if I was to be completely honest I am really not that mad. I think I would have said yes anyway…but does Mike know this? Of course not! So without my consent or input we are now the proud owners of a pure bread Red Coon Hound whom Maxwell has appropriately named “Red”. I am falling more in love with the little guy every second!

Just call me Two Ton Tessy

I had my doctor appointment yesterday and oh boy was I in for a surprise. Now just to recap my official pregnancy weight gain prior to my appointment was –1 pound…this is no longer the case. I stood on the scale and I didn’t look at the numbers. The nurse nodded and I followed her into the exam room. I told her that I felt like I had sprouted over the past few weeks. She was quick to agree. Ok…so what does that mean? I asked her how much weight I had gained and she told me (now brace yourself) 8 POUNDS! OMG! Holy Weight Gain Batman! Once the doctor joined me he assured me that it was no big deal. He said that a 7 pound weight gain at 5 ½ months was very normal. He just told me to try to spread it out a bit from now on. Ha ha, very funny.

Ever since our “It’s a Boy!” shock with Maxwell my doctor has been a bit testy. At my first appointment this time he told me that he was determined to get the sex of the baby right this time. When I told him that we weren’t going to bother to find out he was a bit disappointed. But nevertheless he has predicted a girl from day one. So at my appointment yesterday he was going over the ultrasound results with me and when we were finished he said “Now don’t forget that I have predicted that this baby is a girl.” I asked him jokingly if he had new information that he wanted to share. He said that he didn’t, but that he just wanted me to know that he was going to be right this time. I think we may have an all out war in the delivery room. Mike swears it is a boy and my doctor says a girl. Anyone wanna wager?

The only negative part of the appointment? My liver. I swear it is a never-ending battle. The doctor is a little worried that if my liver keeps acting up it may just stop working. Um, yeah that would be bad. So I go in for blood work tomorrow. If it is as bad as he thinks he is going to start me on 5 days of steroids. He is predicting that the baby will be at least 4 weeks early but hopes no sooner. The itching has begun in my hands and feet but hasn’t quite reached my stomach yet. Once it gets there I am pretty much down for the count. I can’t describe how it feels to have your insides itch. It is just unbearable. So hopefully the steroids will help for a while. I will keep you all posted.

The Stroller Saga comes to an end…

I am now the proud owner of a brand, spanking new EVENFLO travel system. Graco has absolutely refused to offer me any reasonable resolution for our little situation, EVEN after I found my original receipt! But the wonderful people at Toys R Us gave me a full refund and even a deal on a new travel system. My new stroller cost me a whopping $9.42! I will not purchase any more Graco products. Not only because of the crappy service I received but because I don’t feel that they are safe. They made a defective product that harmed children and did nothing to replace it. Shame on them.

Uh, turn car…please!

I was driving to work the other morning with Red and Maxwell and I slowed down at a yield sign on one of the gravel roads by my house. I felt something fall on the floor but couldn’t look to see what it was until I had gone through the sign. When I started the accelerate again my steering wheel had no tension at all! I couldn’t steer! Luckily I wasn’t going very fast and I just veered off to the right. A nice farmer stopped to help me and my dad came to the rescue.

Some of you may be surprised that this happened but no one that knows Mike and I would be. We have the WORST luck with vehicles EVER…

Almost Vehicle #1 – I had a Ford Probe when Mike and I got married and we decided that it was time to move up in the world. We looked around for quite a while until we found the perfect vehicle. A 1998 GMC Jimmy. It was fully loaded and we loved it. We decided to take my Dad with us the day we were going to sign the papers to show off our great find. As we were taking him for a test drive something sparked and the dash started on fire! Needless to say we left that one on the lot.

Vehicle #1 – After a few more weeks of hunting, we settled on a 1998 Chevy Malibu. We signed the papers and took our new “grown up” car home. We owned it for a year and had to replaced the entire brake system in it 3 times. Lemon big time.

Vehicles #2 and #3 – We decided it was time to trade in the Malibu and ended up finding two vehicles that we liked at the same lot. Mike found at 1996 Z71 Chevy truck and I got a 1996 Dodge Caravan Mini Van. The mini van was a problem from the start. The electrical system was super screwy. We ended up putting about $700 dollars into it in the first 6 months and then my sister took it to the store one day and ran it into the back of a flat bed semi. She was fine but the mini van was totaled.

The truck needed a new rear end ($1200), shocks, brakes, battery, etc. in the first year and so we sold it, losing our shirt as usual.

The stories go on and on. Basically, don’t buy a vehicle that has been previously owned by us!!!

Maxwell…

Max has had a wonderful week. He loves his new friend Red and is very protective of him! Red is 9 weeks old and can put his paws on Maxwell’s shoulders. Max pretends that they are dancing and laughs hysterically! He takes him out to the bathroom and praises him when he does his business! He still is accident free in the potty training department, if you can believe that! He is absolutely addicted to Popsicles but luckily is just as fond of his toothbrush!

The War

A lady at work asked me the other day how I am going to explain the war to Maxwell. I simply told her I am not. Max has a lifetime to learn about the pain and suffering in the world. At 2 all he needs to know is that his Mommy and Daddy love him and that he is safe.

My thoughts and prayers remain with those fighting for our country and for the families they left behind.

Have a great week

Nicole
