17 Week Dr. Appointment ~

Maxwell and I headed off to the doctor this morning. This is the first time that my little dude has accompanied my to an appointment and it was so much fun. When I went to check in with the nurse she asked my name and Maxwell quickly replied “Mommy Jensen”. When she asked what his name was he proudly announced, “Maxwell Gregory Jensen” as clear as day. She said that it was nice to meet him and asked me to leave a sample in the bathroom. At this point I think I may have scarred him for life. He stood with his back against the door and watched mom leave a sample in a cup. For the life of him he couldn’t figure out what the heck I was doing.

We waited in the waiting room for about 5 minutes before I was called in. I made my favorite little pit stop at the scale and surprisingly I am the same as last month. My official pregnancy weight gain is –1 pound! HORRAY! Then it was Maxwell’s turn; 34 pounds respectively. The nurse offered Max a grape sucker and we awaited the arrival of the doctor.

Dr. D walked into the room in his normal attire - Wranglers, cowboy boots and his scrub top. Maxwell immediately asked him if he was a cowboy. Dr. D said that indeed he was. “Do you ride horsey’s?” “Do you have moo cows?” And the questions continued. My Dr. was very patient and answered all of his questions. Then he asked me to lie down so that he could check things out. I am measuring big (20 weeks) as usual. He put some gel on my stomach and began to listen for the heartbeat. Maxwell asked me what that stuff was and I told him it was gel. The Doctor corrected me and told me it was called contact. Then Maxwell turned to me and said “Mommy! It’s called contact not gel!” It took him a while to find the heartbeat and determined that I have a thick anterior placenta. I had this with Maxwell too. Its fine with me! No amnio’s in my future!

So all is all everything went well. He booked my next ultrasound for the middle of March. I can’t believe how fast this pregnancy is going! My only gripe is my back pain. I am carrying this baby VERY low. (Max and Clay were both VERY high) I have made an appointment for a pregnancy massage tomorrow evening and hopefully that will help a bit. I have also started to get itchy hands and feet. Not a great sign this early, but as long as it stays mild for a while I will be fine.

My Potty Training Boy ~

I had zero intention of even starting to potty train Max before the baby was born. He has shown no interest at all and I decided that I was just going to wait until he was ready. Well apparently Tuesday he was ready. Right after I dropped him off in the morning he told my mom that he had to go potty. She stopped everything and sure enough he was triumphant on the toilet. He told my mom that he wants to be a big boy because pretty soon the baby is going to need his diapers. Ok first of all, how cute is that? Well it has been two full days and not ONE accident! Can you believe that? He potty trained himself!

A few other updates ~

The House from Hell – Well not much has changed. It is WAY cleaner than when we first arrived, and we are actually getting used to it out there. After our next ultrasound we are going to start on the baby’s room. It needs everything top to bottom. It should be fun and exhausting!

Mike (Or Dudley as Stephanie like to call him!) – He has his meeting with the big RCMP guy and now it just takes time. He has to take an exam and then be inviting to the training program. It is a long process so I am not getting my hopes up too high.

Marnie – My friend Marnie finally had her baby on Monday. A beautiful baby girl named Kamryn. It sounds like she had a terrible labor and delivery though. I can’t wait to talk with her about everything! Congrats Marnie!

Maxwell – He is the cutest boy EVER! Just in case I haven’t bragged enough in my other entries…

Pregnancy odds and ends ~

I have decided that I am not enjoying this pregnancy as much as the other two. I actually feel like I am 8 months pregnant already. It got me thinking back to a few of the funny things that have happened during my pregnancies…

* Locking my keys in the car. I had to get the AMA to come and unlock my car 5 times while I was pregnant with Maxwell. I am not sure if this was due to pregnancy brain or my huge stomach hitting the automatic locks on the way out…all I know is that my membership paid for itself that year.

* My first experience with heartburn. The first time that I had ever gotten heartburn in my entire life we were in the middle of nowhere camping. I woke up in the middle of the night and thought that I was going to die! I made Mike drive into the nearest town at 2:00 in the morning to buy me Zantac.

* Leaking. I will never forget having one of my final leisurely baths before I had Maxwell. I lay there drifting away when I felt a slight “trickle”. I opened my eyes to find both of my breasts adding to the bath water. I had no idea how to turn them off or what I should do. I called Mike into the bathroom and we both continued to watch them in amazement.

* The hardest I have ever laughed. Mike and I were laying in bed one night watching TV. I decided that I had better make one last bathroom stop before turning in for the night. When I attempted to sit up my belly button shot out of my stomach! Mike and I both saw it and started to die laughing! I swear that thing was 2 inches long!

Congratulations to all of the new Mommy’s and the soon to be Mommy’s! I hope that everyone has a wonderful week!

Love Nicole
