Laura's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

December 1, 2003

Katie's 9 month was Friday and all went well. She's off the chart for height (30 in.), weighs 22lbs, 4oz (80th percentile), and is off the chart of head size (18.5 in). The dr. asked me if big heads run in my family and I tried not to be insulted (LOL! )! She measured my head and said, "Yep, it's big!" I thought of that movie, So I Married an Axe Murderer, with the brother and the sputnik head ("Cryin' himself to sleep on his wee little pillow")! The dr. wasn't concerned, though, 'cause it is only ½ in. larger than 3 mos. ago, and when I talked to my mom afterwards she said my sister and I had big heads as kids, too. Gee, it's amazing I don't tip over when I walk! No shots this time, although she did get a finger prick to do a blood test for anemia, etc. (standard practice, I guess). I was NOT prepared for that - no bottle, no paci. I had a sippy of juice and a cracker, but that does not appease a girl who's been mortally wounded! Poor baby, she was not happy in the least. But, her ears looked good and although she's really stuffy her lungs were clear, so she's not doing bad at all.

Okay, here's yet ANOTHER rant about the Dr.'s office: Let me tell ya, if it weren't for the fact that I like Katie's doctor(s) so much, I'd be gone! The desk staff are just not organized at all (and you'd have to know how disorganized I am for me to say that - it's bad!), but worse, the billing receptionist is completely RUDE! Katie's been on DH's insurance now since Nov. 1 (full cov., no copays - YAHOO!) and I called TWICE to give them the information, phone number, etc. for the new policy. Yet they STILL billed my old insurance for her last visit when DH took her in for the ear infection, and tried to tell me I owed 3 visit copays today (did I mention that I didn't even have copays on my last policy? Yep, they've yet to figure THAT out!). So, the receptionist was really snotty to me like it's MY fault that they lost the info. that I had called TWICE to give them! In the grand scheme of things, I realize this is not a big deal, and frankly, I wouldn't have been so mad about them not having the info, but it was the ATTITUDE she gave me about the whole thing that ticks me off! I always try to be polite to people, even when they are rude to me, but I have HAD it with this woman! I really am ready to say something to the dr. next time I go in, because it's happened nearly every time I've been there.

I would not say that Katie is doing the classic crawl yet, but what she's doing is a lot closer to crawling than anything else. She's got the arm/leg coordination down, and actually moves her legs as she scoots along, but she's still not completely up on all fours. It's pretty cute to watch. She does it much more often now, too, especially if I'm trying to change her diaper on the floor. Yet another discover I've made about things we think we need for wee babies, that we don't really need until they're older: changing tables! Seems like that is the only way I can get a diaper on this child without it being all crooked because I was trying to do it on the run! :)

Ooh, ooh, I do have exciting TTC news. Okay, so this may only be exciting to me, but it's a step in the right direction so I'll take it. About 2 weeks into my cycle I felt ovulation pain, very similar to what I felt when I ovulated while on clomid. So, I waited to see and sure enough, 12 days later (yesterday), AF showed. So, I believe this means I ovulated on my own! This is very exciting since it's hardly ever happened. I’m hoping this trend continues and that we end up with a spontaneous pregnancy, rather than all the monitoring, clomid (YUCK), etc. Not holding my breath, but we'll see.

As far as weight loss goes, I'm still holding at about 12 lbs. It seems like I've just been gaining and losing the same 1-2 pounds over the past three weeks. Truthfully, though, I've not been doing the best job sticking to my plan the last 2 weeks, so I am not surprised. I just need to jump back on the wagon before doing more damage.

Hope everyone had a good turkey day! We went to see both sides of the family and Katie was FABULOUS, I'm happy to say. She wasn't feeling well and took three naps totaling 5 hours. She was happy when she was awake and even let some of the relatives hold her, which was a nice surprise since she's big into mommy, daddy, and her grandmothers ONLY right now.

We went to 'the country' for a day or two to visit family and so Chris could hunt. Now I am off work again today (yippee!) and Katie and I are going to finish up some Christmas shopping. Not much more to get and I'm DONE!

Take care, ladies! Enjoy those leftovers...!
