9 Months Today!

I've been meaning to write about Katie for a couple of weeks now - just seems like things get in the way! I really don't have time to write today, and will not do this entry justice, I'm sure, but today is Katie's 9 month birthday so I had to write something!

So, here's the rundown on Miss Katie:

Weight: 22lbs (YOWZERS!)
Length: 29 ½ in. (as close as I can measure, give or take!)
Teeth: 6 with a 7th one waiting in the wings (3 on bottom, 3 ½ on top).

She's still not crawling, but this girl is definitely mobile! She will army-pull and roll herself around if she's motivated enough - usually if we 'cheat' and put the remote control or cordless phone on the floor! She is moving more and more, though, so I'm sure she'll be crawling before long. As a first-time mom it would worry me that she's not crawling yet, especially since many of her friends are, but her cousin, who is 20 mos., was a lot like Katie, so I've been asking my sister a lot of questions and feeling reassured. She's just a big girl, it takes time!

Since my last entry, Katie has taken not one, but TWO trips to Tennessee in the car! The first one was down to see my grandmother, who was 'up' in TN from Florida at the end of October. So, my parents took Katie and my niece, whom my grandmother had never seen, on a whirlwind, down one day, back the next, visit. They're nuts! The girls did well, though. I can only imagine what people thought at the rest stops when they saw two 50-somethings with 2 babies under 2! LOL!

We went down again last weekend for my best friend's baby shower. She is due to have a little boy on Jan. 1. We had a great time and her shower was lovely. It's hard to know that she's so far away, though! I am already planning a trip down to see baby N. after he's born!

Let's see...what else...Oh, Katie was a princess for Halloween. She had a great time! Well, on the actual night of Halloween she was really quite cranky, but the day before my mom brought her up to school in costume and she stayed and hung out at the after-school Halloween activity, so that was fun. The kids enjoyed seeing her - even the boys!

Another one of Katie's favorite things is playing peek-a-boo! She's done this for a while when we would hold things in front of her face, but now SHE has started to initiate the game! And, if you sit in the back seat of the car with her when she's got a blanket, she will keep lifting it over her head again, and again, and again! Surprisingly enough, we never tire of it (do new parents EVER tire of their kids' new tricks?!).

We are battling Katie's second ear infection over here - this time just a single one, so Katie's not nearly as uncomfortable as before. It's funny, she was playing with her right ear, which she does most of the time, but then she was waking up at night so I knew she was sick. The infection, however, is in her left. Go figure.

Katie really is starting to do some cute things. She now 'shares' with us - whatever she's been putting in her mouth - paci, book, toy, wagon wheel crackers - she holds out to us. If you pretend to eat it, she gets this satisfied little smile on her face. It's quite cute! She also takes great pleasure in banging on things - her highchair, our shoulders, her ducky tub. We think she'll be a percussionist like her mom. :)

As for me, I am happy to report that I am down 12 pounds! Granted, I still have 25 to go before I get to my goal, but this is the most weight I've lost since the initial post-baby weight-shedding. I'm now under my weight when I got pregnant with Katie, and almost down to where I was before I got pregnant with Aaron. Of course, the places where the weight loss is most noticeable are my face and boobs! Go figure! My pants are actually fitting much looser, too, but I'm not quite down to wearing the jeans I wore a couple of years ago. I'll get there, though. The nice thing about the way I'm 'dieting' is I don't feel like I"m dieting - I eat what I feel like eating, I just only eat when I'm hungry and just enough until I'm full. I eat only about half as much as I used to. I'm trying to make sure I have a small something at school even if I'm not hungry (an apple or something), because I've heard it's not good for your metabolism to go all day w/out food, but I really don't feel like eating lunch anymore. I get a lot more work done, and I enjoy the quiet time at my desk w/out the kids.

Other areas of my life feel a bit out of control right now, though. I am so insanely disorganized that I feel like I get nothing done. It really is depressing at times. Our house is clean enough (most of it, anyway), but it seems like we're always in the middle of a million things and we can never find anything because there's no good place to put it...and don't even get me started on having time to get things done! I really could go on, and on, and ON! I can clean, but I'm no good at utilizing my space efficiently. Has anyone watched that new TLC show, "Clean Sweep"? They go into houses that are total disasters and they clean out all the stuff people don't need, organize, and redecorate two rooms. We don't have as big a mess as some of those houses, but our basement and guest room (which is a catch-all when not occupied by guests) are close! There's just so much that needs to be done, and I'm not even sure where to start! I actually went on the TLC website to apply for the show, but they only go to So. California. Anyone wanna hire out to help the organizationally impaired?!

Enough of that. Is everyone gearing up for the holidays? I've gotten a large chunk of my shopping done - YAY! Again, I've been utilizing online shopping - does it get any better? I also went out and did some actual mall shopping this weekend since I was a hunting widow, but didn't do as much since Katie was sick. For Katie's Christmas present, we ordered her a little upholstered rocker online from BRU. It came in the mail and we let her test it out - she was quite pleased! I've put it away now until Christmas. That's all we're giving her, since she's really too young to know Christmas from any other holiday, and she already has so many things. She's in desperate need of a toy box, and I found one I like online from www.smithcreek.com - if you're looking for an affordable, simple wooden toy box, it's a nice one. I'm actually trying to get it on ebay first to see if I can get it for cheaper - I'll know in a few hours!

Well, I've written much, and Katie is getting bored with her floor toys, so I'm off to feed this girl and get her to bed! Hope everyone is doing well!

I'll post some pics of Katie on my TTM board when I get a chance.

2 TTM Questions:

1. What do you do to get/stay organized with your things, time, etc? If you work outside the home, how do you balance work and baby to get everything done?
2. For those of you with soy babies - When did you start giving real milk? I'm waiting until Katie is 1, but I am wondering about other dairy products, also. When you introduced them, when you introduced milk, etc. Particularly those of you whose babies were on soy for digestive probs. Thanks!

Have a safe and happy one -
Laura & Katie
