18 Weeks
Wow, the last few weeks seem to have flown by. I remember thinking, when we got our test results back at 12 weeks, that time would SURELY go faster now that I knew things would be okay, but it seemed to creep for a while...13 weeks, 14 weeks...then suddenly I'm sitting here at 18 weeks and hadn't realized I was already there. Still 22 to go, mind you!
Things are going well so far. My belly has really popped and it is now becoming obvious to the general public that I am pregnant. This is both good and bad, because usually they ask me how far along I am or when I'm due, and often I see this look of, "Oh, she looks big for 18 weeks" on their faces! So, then I meekly add, "It's my second baby - I popped out faster this time," and get the, "Oh..." look. For comparison, I am probably about as big as I was at this time of year when I was pregnant with Katie, only I'm about a month earlier in the pregnancy than I was at this time with her, if that makes any sense.
My 20-week ultrasound is scheduled 2 weeks from today, and I'm excited but also nervous. I won't really feel like everything is okay until I hear the tech tell me that his brain and all major organs are looking good and functioning. Then I'll be relieved.
I can feel the baby kick more and more, which is fun. It's still not a regular occurrence, as in throughout the day, but I do feel him daily. Chris even got to feel him the other night! We were surprised, but the little guy kicked in just the right place for Daddy to feel it.
Katie will come over and pat my tummy when I ask where her baby brother is, and also has learned how to say, "I'm the big sister," which sounds more like, "I'm a BIG SITTER!!!!!!!" It's very cute. She's learning to say lots and lots these days, and it's amazing how quickly she picks it up. Last Friday my mom let her watch part of the Teletubbies, and she walked around saying, "Telebtubby Bye-Bye!" for most of the weekend. She's said it a few times here and there since then, too.
Let's talk childrens' television for a minute - can I just say that I HATE the Teletubbies and Boobah? They just freak me out! WAY too odd for me. I guess I'm more of a classics gal. We watch Sesame Street about once a day, and that's it. I pray that this child never discovers Barney, because that might be the end of my sanity. She does like the Wiggles, too, but they're on at the same time as SS, and I really do enjoy that little trip down memory lane, so that's what we usually watch. She's also VERY into her latest DVD - it's called "God Made Me" and tells the story of Genesis. I guess it's kind of like a Bible-based Baby Einstein. It's got little hand puppets and music. She calls it her, "Bible Showy-Show." She usualy watches that while I'm getting ready for school, and the rest of the day we listen to her litany of favorite kiddie tunes.
My mom finished Katie's Halloween costume last week. She is dressing up as Woodstock - not Woodstock the hippy rock concert, but Woodstock the little yellow bird from the Peanuts! It's very cute. I planned ahead and picked up a bright yellow, hooded jacket last year, and then got some bright yellow sweatpants. My mom made the little cone out of felt, stuffed it, and stitched it on top of the hood, then attached little wings to the tops of the sleeves, and a little tale on the back! It's adorable! My first thought when I bought the jacket was that I'd take all the stuff off and use it as Katie's spring coat, but now that I think about it, I may just keep the costume intact for a couple more years and use it for the little guy, then it can be his spring jacket afterwards. Makes more sense than taking it apart and putting it back together.
As for me, I've officially entered the "Getting Old" territory - I turned the big 3-0 last week! Okay, so I'll admit I don't *feel* old just yet, but I guess I'm closer to old than to young at this point. No matter. I didn't have any wild parties or anything (unless you count my students on sugary donuts as a wild party), but my birthday was just lovely. The weekend before, Chris took me to see "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," and then to dinner. Then my parents took us out to dinner last weekend, and my in-laws took us out this week. Way to streeeeetch out that birthday, eh?!
I got some birthday money which, sadly, went mostly towards bills (bad timing), but I did spend some of it on a couple maternity t-shirts and a pair of jeans. I am always amazed at how quickly maternity fashions change. When I was pregnant with Katie, the jeans with the band (as opposed to the panel) had come out recently but weren't quite everywhere yet. I bought a pair at the end which are currently way too big for me. But after throwing a fit when I put on my panel jeans and had that stupid panel showing even with a mat. shirt on, I went to Motherhood and bought me a nice pair of bootcut jeans with a the band. Almost like regular jeans only no button or zipper - it's the best of both worlds! LOL! Going into Motherhood was a completely different issue entirely. After losing Aaron and being subejcted to their crappy "no refunds, just exchanges within 10 days" policy for clothing that had never been worn but had been purchased 2 weeks before I miscarried, I vowed to NEVER shop there (or mimi, or pea in the pod) again! So, I got a lot from Old Navy, Kohls, and Target last time around. I still have a whole bunch of spring/summer maternity clothes that I got in my first pregnancy and have never worn myself, as I've never been needing clothes for that season. My friends have enjoyed them, so I guess it wasn't a total waste. Anyway, I was desperate, the ones at Motherhood fit well, and I sucked it up and got them. But that's it, no maternity clothing for me, I believe I am ALL SET!
Okay, this has been a muddle of fairly mundane news. See why I don't update much? I'll apologize ahead for not having spellchecked - we reformatted our computer and Word isn't reloaded yet, and Katie's stirring so I'm guessing she'll be up soon. The poor little pumpkin has a cold, so I can hear her snorting away over the monitor.
Oh, a question or two for my TTM board, though:
1. Double strollers - which one do you like best?
2. Halloween - what are your munchkins dressing up as this year?
