Laura's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

September 13, 2003

Katie - Almost 7 mos. and weighing in at 20lbs this week (we're still calling her Moose, although sometimes we alternate with Katie the Krusher! ha ha)

Don't ask me why I haven't updated in so long. Although I've been incredibly busy, there really hasn't been much to say in an entry. Hmph - this is where you need to keep those, "That's never stopped you before!" comments to yourselves! LOL!

Katie made it through the first six months of her life without illness, but her luck ran out this week. My poor little girl has a double ear infection. It all started out innocently enough. On Monday she was a bit fussy, and we felt a little sharp point pushing through her lower gum, next to her other two teeth. On Tuesday, she was playing with her ear all day and evening. I wondered if it was a sign, but thought it could be from teething, or allergies, and figured since she had no fever I would wait another day or two. On Wednesday morning she was up all of three seconds before she started pulling that right ear again, and my mom called later in the morning to tell me that she thought I should make an appt. for her, and that she (my mom) would take her (since I don't really have the kind of job I can just leave for an hour or two and come back). When my mom took Katie in (have I mentioned how much I LOVE having Katie's grandmas watch her?), Dr. K. said that she had an ear infection in BOTH ears, with it being worse on the right. Apparently Katie will be one of those babies who is sick long before they act like it. She's now on amoxicilin and seems to be dong better. I think she hit a peak today in terms of actually feeling pain and will probably feel better tomorrow.Even when she's sick and slightly fussy, though, she is still themost precious baby I have ever seen. I just love her to pieces. Have I mentioned that I have turned into the biggest sap ever lately?

Katie's latest and greatest: Loves h er baby safe feeder. In fact, it saved our hineys last week when we were out to eat. She was going nuts and I happened to have one in my diaper bag (pure luck), so we put a piece of fruit in it and Katie was a happy camper. Sucked the life out of it, too! She loves grabbing for things she's not supposed to have - car keys, remotes, heavy jar of balmex - anything. Even Ocho's ear almost became an appetizer the other night. Bless her heart, Ocho just takes it like the big girl that she is. Let's see....Katie is sitting up REALLY well now, likes to say lots of consonants (da da, na na, etc). I heard her make some m sounds (besides when she was eating), so she's getting closer fo ma ma. Katie is also enjoying tummy time a bit more. She is not up on all fours yet, but she's definitely trying to scooch. I tnink we'll have a comando crawler on our hands.

This was our first five-day work-week (even though it was our fourth week of school), and I am FRIED. Like a green tomato, like a piece of chicken - I am one fried girl. Tired? No, not tired - exhausted to my very bones! There, how's that for melodrama?

All of this tiredness has made me cranky, and I'm sure you can guess who has born the brunt of my crankiness - Chris. Not that he hasn't deserved it (I could think of plenty of things he has done, does, or will do - lol), but maybe not as much as he's gotten cranked at.

AF is also late by 1-2 weeks at this point (I'm now going into the 8th week). Before I get any, "Are you pg?" TTM posts, let me preface this by saying I am fairly, no, most certainly, sure that I am NOT pregnant. I am as sure as the stats for a condom, thrown in with some extra % for the fact that I'm annovulartory and have ZERO symptoms of any kind. Normally I'm late (6 weeks or so), but not this late, still, I am annoyed. It's like perpetual pms around here with me - I'd rather the old bat arrive so I could get it over with. It is funny, though, how obsessed I still am with my cycle. I thought I wouldn't think about it when I wasn't TTC, but after trying for so long, it's hard not to think and analyze.

We are switching Chris and Katie to Chris's insurance plan. We've been on mine, and while it's a good policy with decent IF coverage, it's got zippo for well-baby. I only have her shots covered because I signed up for a plan that a friend (NOT the ins. company) told me about. And we don't have a copay, but there is a deductible. Anywho...I got Chris's open enrollment info. the other day and talked to his benefits person, and they have a plan that covers well baby, and is also without deduct. or copays! So, we're gong to waive that 'reimbursement' (and I use the phrase very lightly here) that Chris gets for taking my insurance and not his, and he and Katie will have coverage there. I'll stay on mine until we are pregnant with a second healthy baby.

I am still working on weight and exercise, but I think I am making progress. I'm counting WW points and am just entirely too busy to snack lastely. but speaking of diets, I had to post this funny email I got (thanks, Amy B!) about "The Toddler Diet". I don't have a toddler, but it makes me giggle to see what I have to look forward to! Anyway, Enjoy.

Hmmm..how's that for a long and disjointed entry?! :)

Take care,
Laura

Here's a funny email I got (very tongue-in-cheek!):

Miracle Toddler Diet! Guaranteed results.

People are always on the lookout for a new diet. The trouble with most diets is that you don't get enough to eat (the starvation diet), you don't get enough variation (the liquid diet) or you go broke (the all meat diet). Consequently, people tend to cheat on their diets,or quit after 3 days.

Well, now there's the new Toddler Miracle Diet. Over the years you may have noticed that most two year olds are trim. Now
the formula to their success is available to all in this new diet. You may want to consult your doctor before embarking on this diet, otherwise, you may be seeing him afterwards. Good Luck!!
