Katie is just five days shy of six months old! I say this every month, but it's hard to believe she is getting to be THAT OLD!
I'll just do an overview of some milestones from Katie's life so far:
1 Month: 10lbs, 2oz., 22 in.
-NOT a happy camper much of the time she's awake, and stuffy. Formula allergy?
-such a sweet little cuddler! Loves to sleep on us (and we love to let her!)
2 Months: 12lbs, 2oz, 24 in.
-Switch to soy, and everyone involved is much happier!
-Sleeping through the night at 7 weeks (six hours); sleeping 10 hours by 10 weeks.
3 Months:
-Smiling, giggling, cooing - could we be more in love with this girl?!
-LOVES her Snoopy doll, talks to him often! Who knows what she's saying, but it's something good from the look on her face...!
4 Months: 16lbs, 8oz, 25 1/4 in.! We've got a big girl on our hands!
-Cut 1st and 2nd teeth (bottom middle) on June 20&21.
5 Months:
-Rolling front to back (as of 7/16)
-loves to grab your face/glasses/etc;
-will pull herself into sitting and standing positions when given hands to hold onto
-now rolling onto stomach in her sleep, but waking up mad when she finds herself there and can't get back to her back!
-LOVES solid foods! She hasn't met a food she doesn't like! Katie eats applesauce, prunes, pears, sweet potatoes, peas, and green beans. She also drinks some white grape juice heavily diluted with water.
Well, that pretty much brings you up to speed on my girl. We expect to be filling out her application for Harvard by next month, and starting violin lessons in a week or two - LOL!
More on My Family...
I didn’t mention much in my introduction about my wonderful husband, Chris. I will have to sing his praises now, because I know that there are many times when I complain about his excessive computer gaming, apparent inability to pick up his things, and the other little complaints that I have...but really, he is a gem. I knew this when I married him, and he hasn’t proved me wrong yet. He’s really been my strength through all of the things we’ve gone through in the past few years - infertility, miscarriage, family illness, this whole genetic thing, and now the challenges of parenthood. He really helped me to keep my sanity and perspective through everything, and was a good balance for my emotions, while still showing his. And I don’t know how he does it, but Chris is one of the very few guys I’ve seen who just naturally knew right away how to take care of a baby. He’s never been afraid to hold Katie, change a diaper, or take care of our child or our nieces and nephew. It’s so nice knowing I can leave Katie with him and not have him freak out or not know how to take care of her. Sometimes I forget that not every husband is like that! And Katie just ADORES him - her face lights up every time she sees him, and she just loves it when he makes her laugh. It’s so much fun to watch. I’ll have to make sure I videotape it to show her one day when she’s a sassy teenager (I’d be kidding myself if I thought she wouldn’t be - she is my daughter, after all!) and says she doesn’t like us - I’ll have proof that she did at one point!
Body Issues...(this is where I start whining - don't say I didn't warn you!)
One thing that I am still struggling with quite a bit is my weight. When we first started ttc, I really was in the best shape ever. I’d lost 30+ lbs in Weight Watchers, and had good eating and exercise habits. Fast forward through stress, hormones, and fertility meds (+25 lbs); 1st pregnancy (+10 lbs); 2nd pregnancy (+28 lbs) - - - I put on over 50 pounds in less than three years! YIKES! Now, granted, I do have a lovely baby to show for it (if this were the Visa commercial, this is where I'd say, "Priceless"!), and I have lost the Katie weight (26 lbs. of it, anyway), but I still have FAR to go to being back where I am comfortable with myself. And it isn’t even just the weight, but also the fact that your body is completely changed after pregnancy - NOTHING is where it used to be, and the only things that are smaller than they used to be are the things I didn’t want to shrink (LOL!). I was frustrated after about 4 mos. because I had kind of hit a plateau, so I decided to give myself until the end of summer before really getting serious. So, this week I started counting points again, and I’ve been hitting the gym more. I’ve been walking all this time, but I really need something to burn more calories. I did break down and buy myself a pair of ‘feel good’ jeans from the Gap. Okay, the fact that they were the biggest size I’ve ever bought or the price tag didn’t make me feel so great (at least I had a friends&family discount coupon from our neighbor), but they do look good on, and as Chris said the other day, “I heard on ‘The View’ that boot cut jeans are most flattering if you are self-conscious about your lower section.” I looked at him and laughed - that’s what I got for waking him up while I was watching morning talk shows! However, he was right and I do feel pretty good in my new duds. Hopefully they will look good long enough for me to feel like I wore my money’s worth, but will get big enough on me for me to put away with my ‘stuff to wear in early pregnancy’ clothes!
That's it from me - if you've made it this far you deserve a pat on the back!
