Laura's Diary Entries

August 3, 2004

It's been an interesting few weeks!

Some of you know what's been going on since you've vistied my TTM board, but I'll give the quick recap (if you were 'there,' go ahead and skip this part): I found out I was pregnant on July 12, 10 days after my IUI, went in for hcg draws on days 11 & 13 after the IUI and they were good (17 & 73). Was getting hopeful, but still nervous and wanting to see the rise continue. When I went in on 18 dpiui (2 weeks ago), I was shocked (as was my dr.) to hear my hcg was NEGATIVE, meaning less than 2. It didn't make sense since, if my numbers were falling, they would not be that low so quickly. My dr. asked me to come in again the next day (Wednesday)for a repeat draw, right before we left for our vacation. That night I tested at home and hte hpt was resoundingly positive, so I went in knowing it had to have been a lab fluke of some sort. I was right. My hcg from the day before, they found out, was really 1,000-something. The next day it was 1300-something, so I was a happy girl.

Last week we went in for an ultrasound and saw a lovely sac and everything looking like it should, although it was too early for a clear heartbeat. Today, however, I saw that strong, consistent flicker on the ultrasound screen and melted into a big pile of mush right there on the exam table. A beautiful, marvelous sight.

We had a great trip - went to the west side of the state (along Lake Michigan), then took a ferry to WI for a family reunion, and came back through Chicago where we spent one night and went to the Shedd Aquarium. We really had a fabulous, relaxing time. Katie did well and LOVED the beach, and the boat ride, and all the kids at the reunion, and finally the aquarium. She did amazingly well considering all the driving and different hotels.

When we came back home, morning sickness set in FULL FORCE!!!!!!! Ugh, it really has been bad, probably the worst I've had ever. I feel absolutely wretched all day, until about 6 or 7 p.m., when I finally start to feel human again. Poor Katie probably thinks I am permanently glued to the floor, toilet, or couch, since that's pretty much where I always am! I go from room to room w/her and just kind of sink to the floor, and heaven forbid if I close the bathroom door on her when I go in to hurl. Nope, she has to be right in the action! If I'm lucky it's just Katie joining me in there, but sometimes the dog also gets in before I close the door, and let me tell you how much fun THAT adds to being sick. Ugh. I realize beggars can't be choosers, and please believe me when I say that I'll take this because I know it is worth it. BUT, it's just so much harder than I was thinking it would be this time around.

ANYWAY, that's where we stand right now. I'm 6.5 weeks, and will have weekly ultrasounds until CVS testing, which is scheduled for early Sept. Then we wait, and hopefully we will get lucky again like we did with Katie. There's always hope, and I've got a lot of it right now.

Katie is such a joy. She sings pretty much constantly! Her favorites are "Twinkle Twinkle," "You are My Sunshine," and the old standby "Old MacDonald." She waits for us to join her, and we stop every few words and she fills in. It's so much fun! She's also been telling us when she gets her diaper dirty, usually by yelling, "P-U, PooPoos!" whether we are at home or out in public. She is also bringing us books to read throughout the day, usually the same favorites over and over.

That's us. Life is good. Nauseating lately (ha ha), but good.
