MY DAUGHTER, THE QUARTERBACK PRINCESS
Remember that Quarterback Princess movie with Helen Hunt? I always wondered how someone so petite and not huge could play football and not get squashed like a grape! Apparently I won't have to worry about this happening because Katie is now officially a bruiser! I took her in for her six month checkup today. She had an appointment for this past Monday, but as we had that whole power outage thing last weekend, the dr's office had their vaccines go bad, so we rescheduled. Katie was 16.5 lbs at her four-month checkup, and I was figuring her to be around 18.5 lbs now. Chris said 20, and if we'd been in a betting pool he would have won for being closest! My little chunk of sweetness weighed in at 19lbs, 10oz. today (95% for weight), and measured 26 1/4 in. long (80-something % for length). It has been suggested that she join the football team being formed by the boys on the born in Feb. board! LOL!

The appointment went really well. Katie did much better with her shots this time - perhaps because the nurse wasn't painfully slow about giving them?! The dr. did note her head being a little flat in back, but I told him it is getting much better than it was, especially now that she sleeps on her stomach (by her own choice). We talked about food, and we are adding another solid feeding to her schedule and decreasing the amount of formula she drinks each day. Right now she has 2 food feedings with smaller bottles, and 2 all-bottle feedings. Starting tomorrow, she'll have a fruit or vegetable at breakfast, lunch, and dinner times, each time followed by a 3-5 oz. bottle about 15 min. after she eats. Her last bottle of the day will be 6-8 oz. at bedtime. Not much different than we've been doing already, just adding another food feeding. Her four-meal schedule has been going really well. When she gets hungry between feedings, I've been giving her baby juice diluted with water (usually 2 oz. juice to 2-4 oz. water). This is good because it keeps her little intestines from getting backed up! How's that for too much info?

WORK, SCHMORK!
School started on Tuesday of this past week, and it sent me into the deepest funk I've been in since becoming a mother. When I went back after mat. leave, Katie was only 10 weeks old, and had been fussy for about 8 of them, so the idea of going back to work was almost nice because it got me out of the house and I had a lot more patience when I came home(and I only had 7 weeks until summer break). Now that she is doing so many things, and smiling and giggling so much (and now that I FINALLY got her on a nap schedule!), I really, really, really had a hard time going back! I was in a depression that resulted in my purchasing two new cds and getting a pedicure, and I still ended up crying myself to school for three days. I'm getting out of it, and it's getting easier, but I still don't relish the thought of leaving the house each day. Ugh.

My mom and MIL are still watching Katie this year. For that I feel truly blessed. You never realize how nice it is to have family nearby until you talk to other moms who don't.

KATIE'S LATEST 'TRICKS'
Hmmmm...as for new things that Katie is doing - she's sitting up for longer periods of time unassisted, which is really fun for her as she gets to grab toys around her. It's like she's got her very own all-you-can-play toy buffet! :) She also LOVES anything in which she can jump or bounce - her exersaucer, the jumpy seat, etc. I was talking to my sis on the phone and could barely hear her because I'd just put Katie in her saucer and she was squawking and squealing so loud! I think Katie's also working on a wave. I have seen her raise that chubby little hand and open and shut her fist a bit, but it's not quite a definitive wave yet. We're getting there, though!

TTM QUESTION...
I have a close girlfriend who is getting ready to have baby #1, a boy, in early January. She lives far away and I won't be able to go help her register, so I was making a list of my 'mommy must-haves' to email her. So, it got me thinking to ask all of you - What is YOUR - must-have, couldn't live without, would drive 20 min. back home if you forgot it - baby item?
