It's hard to believe Matthew is already 2 mos. old! My little guy is growing nicely. At his dr's appointment he weighed 11lbs and was 23.5 inches long. He did NOT like his shots one bit! Katie cried at the office for shots but then came home and slept them off. Not this guy - he screamed for 4 hours total last night! He had two one-hour screaming bouts with a two-hour one thrown in there for good measure, all bewteen 4 and 11 pm. Yikes! Poor kiddo. :( Today he woke up a MUCH happier baby, though.
Matthew's favorite activities right now are smiling at us, laying on his play mat and batting things around, and watching Baby Einstein videos (or "God Made Me" which is similar to B.E.). I have never been one to plant my children in front of viedos all the time, but when you have to get ready for work and it keeps the baby content you've just got to go with it. It's been hard because Matthew doesn't really have a 'favorite' anything - there's nothing, aside from being held, that will work to calm him down on a regular basis. He really doesn't like the swing (Katie LOVED it), and is okay with the bouncy seat about 50% of the time, and will *sometimes* lay in his crib with the ocean wonders going. But mostly he's a little snuggle bug and prefers to be held. If it were up to him he'd be held all the time, I'm sure! So, this sometiems makes it difficult to get things done or get ready for school. Now that I'm not pumping every morning, though, it's gotten easier.
Katie has been throwing tantrums lately - fun! And in toddler fashion it's always over the smallest thing and there seems to be nothing to make her snap out of it. We've taken to sending her to sit on her bed until she's ready to come out without screaming. We leave the door open and she's free to come out when she's ready (not quite the same as a time out b/c she can come out on her own). It doesn't always work - lots of times she comes out still screaming and we send her back in - but I'm hoping that as she gets older and is able to regulate her temperment a little more it will help. The tantrums have actually been a lot better this week than in the few weeks before - I don't know if it's a fluke that they're better or if we're maybe getting out of this being such a frequent thing.
But she really is a sweet girl. She has discovered her baby dolls all of a sudden, and now lugs three babies around w/her all over the house. It's very cute. She's also VERY into mimicking us lately. It was funny, I went through the drive-thru to get coffee the other week and when I got to the window I heard her pipe up with, "Double cream, single sugar!" Think I'm a bit of an addict?! ha ha!
I got bit by the garage sale bug this week, I must confess! My teammate at school came in and was telling me about a subdivision sale where they had a lot of those Little Tykes and Step 2 cars, and I realized I don't have many yard toys and this would be a good way to get them! I went and got a car (the 'Flinstones' style where they move their feet) for $5. I would have done more damage but I didn't have time! Now I'm on the lookout for a picnic table for the kids, and will probably start buying jeans and overalls for Matthew, since he doesn't really have anyone to get hand-me-downs from like Katie did. I've never really been a garage saler before. I love bargains but am more of a sale shopper - waiting for something specific to go on sale. I've never really had the patience or time to go from house to house looking through all that stuff, but hey, those Little Tykes yard toys are good forever, and I really don't see the sense in spending so much more money on them when they're new.
That's all from here - pretty boring, really! Only 11.5 more school days left - not that I'm counting!!!!!!
So, entertain me -
TTM: Funniest thing your toddler has said while copying you
