May 16, 2004

May 6, 2004 - 15 months old tomorrow!

I am in utter disbelief that my child is turning into a TODDLER! This month has seen the most changes overall in Katie’s behavior and skills. In terms of behavior, this baby is really turning into a little toddler right before our eyes. She will NOT let us hold her hand when she is walking. This is a bone of contention because, of course, she does not want to be carried, either. Tonight we were practicing hand-holding with her in the church parking lot - DH and I both held each time and were praising her when she would walk with us without tugging at our hands (which she did for about 70% of the time). Whenever we praised her she yelled, “Yay!” It was pretty cute.

Katie’s vocabulary is multiplying at such a high rate I can barely keep up! Last week I wrote down all the words she says, and there were 25 of them or so. Since then she’s added at least 4. Our favorite is “Hewwwooo?!” It is so cute! She’s got this Veggie Tales Talking Larry doll and it says different things when you hit it. One of them is Hello, and Katie has taken to saying it just like he does. The best time of day to hear her talking is in the morning, from my bedroom. It’s just the best way to wake up, to hear her talking over the baby monitor. She seems to ‘practice’ many of her new words in her crib before trying them on us. I hear new words/phrases over the monitor long before Katie uses them in person on us. Apparently she likes to be prepared! LOL.

I think Katie has had a growth spurt in the last month, particularly in the past 2 weeks. She has her 15 month appt. on Wed, so I don’t know officially how long she is, but I put her in footed PJ’s tonight after her not wearing them in a while (we’ve had some really warm weather lately) and I could barely make the top and bottoms meet to snap together!

The warm weather is here, as I mentioned, and Katie is LOVING the outdoors! We go walking with my friend and her daughter, who is Katie’s age, and the girls just babble back and forth to each other. Katie is also enjoying her little slide in the backyard, and we discovered last weekend that we really need a baby swing. We were at DH’s aunt’s house, and Katie would have stayed in that swing the whole time if we’d let her! It was great for us, too, because we were able to sit and visit since the little cousins all wanted to play with Katie and push her in the swing, and she was more than happy to let them! The only problem for us is we don’t have anything in our yard large enough to attach a baby swing to. So, we are looking into getting a swing set. My MIL said she wanted to get one for Katie, and I was thinking she wouldn’t need one for at least another year, but we may end up getting one this summer.

I am very excited to have FINISHED my masters degree! Yahooooooo! I still have to student teach since it’s a special ed. endorsement, and take the exam, but I have the degree portion done, and will therefore get a raise next year! This helps out a lot since my salary will be cut right in half due to my job share. I am also very excited that school will be out in LESS than a month! This has been an interesting year - and not in a good way! LOL!

Chris and I went on a date night last night for the first time in ages. We saw the movie “Troy” - it was very good. Even though you know how it’s going to end if you know the story from Greek Myth, it’s still not hard to become involved in the movie. And c’mon, Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom in the same place? How can you go wrong with that?! We also had really good ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery after the movie, which just made the evening that much better! All in all it was a lovely night, and we got some much-needed time together. Things always get nuts around this time of year, and we both needed to get out for a bit, together. We go through phases like this where there’s so much going on that we eventually look at each other and say, “Hey, who are you?” Actually, it’s more like me getting REALLY cranky because I feel like Chris is always gone doing something, and you know what they say - “If Momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!” Hopefully when school’s out we’ll have time to do a date night once a week. Chris is going to get a job this summer for some sort of part-time work - not sure what yet, but it’s good for him to get out of the house, and the extra money will help. Besides, I do like a little time alone with Katie! He’s only worked one summer since he started teaching, and I’ve worked a few tutoring, so it’s his turn. Hopefully he’ll get a job doing something he enjoys so it won’t seem like a job.

As far as TTC goes, I just had my first ‘real’ AF visit since the miscarriage, so we will be starting up with IUIs with the next cycle. We’ll see what happens.

I hope all is well with everyone. I see some new faces around here, which is always nice.

Enjoy the Spring!
