Lara's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

September 20, 2002

Wow! My first diary entry on Mom’s Today. I’m so excited! I posted my intro but I thought I would take a minute and catch up on what’s been going on since I stopped my Baby Diary back in May.

We had a very busy summer! My MIL came for 2 weeks back in June and then the girls and I traveled with her for another 2 weeks. You’ll learn pretty quickly that I have great relationship with my in-laws and I truly think of them as my family. My MIL is a school teacher so we usually try to spend a lot of time together over the summer. She LOVES the girls and LOVES to spend time with them. Over the week of July 4th we were at the beach in South Carolina with all of DH’s family. It was wonderful! We all had such a great time and I really miss being there with everyone.

The rest of July and August we stayed home and pretty much just hung out. As I mentioned in my intro, my DH is getting his Executive MBA. That has really thrown our family for a loop, but we’re managing. He’s pretty much gone all the time with either work or school. The bright side is he graduates in May of 2003 and he’ll be done! So we’re half way there! I pretty much keep myself busy taking care of the girls and the house so we can keep our heads above water. I’m so thankful to be able to stay home; I can’t imagine how crazy our lives would be if I had to work. I’m amazed at women who work and raise a family, that’s just more than I could handle.

I’m about to start a few house projects. Now that Macy is in preschool 3 times a week and Erin is on a great schedule I think I’ll have a little extra time. I’ve made it a goal of mine to learn to sew. I’ve always wanted to and I’m going give it a try. I would love to be able to make curtains, make little dresses for the girls, or even mend a shirt. So, I pulled out the sewing machine (which I have no idea how to use) and I’m going to attempt to hem some curtains in the house that have been needing to be hemmed for 3 yrs! When we moved in I bought some curtains to go over our bathtub and they were too long. I just cut off the extra fabric and that’s how they’ve been ever since. I think it’s high time I took care of that! Plus, I’m thinking about painting the master bathroom. It’s very plain and boring. I’ve painted a lot of other rooms in the house, but there is still much to be done. We are planning to sell our house next year, but I just think a house looks better with paint on the walls. Paint is cheap and it will make the house show better, so it’s worth my time.

I told DH that next month I’m going to start scrapbooking again. There is a great scrapbook store right down the street and they have cropping parties every Friday night from 6 – 12 midnight. So, I think I’m going to take advantage of that and try to get caught up. I was really pretty sick of scrapbooking when I stopped back in May, but now I really miss it and I’m ready to dive back in.

Okay, I’m the queen of trying to improve my life. My sister says that I’m coming up with a new way of doing things every week. I’ve tried everything to get my house and life in order. And I’m not even half way to where I want to be, but I’m further along than I was a year ago. So, my new thing is my grocery list. I sat down and made a list of everything that I want to have on hand in my pantry and fridge. I categorized it and typed it all up on the computer. I think it turned out great! Now, when I go to the store I just print off a fresh copy of my list, highlight what I don’t have on hand and there’s my grocery list. I’m terrible about buying duplicates. I really don’t need 10 boxes of pasta, 4 jars of spaghetti sauce and 9 boxes of Jello. So, I’m hoping my new list helps me to stick to just what I need. I’m also on a money saving kick. I’m really trying to live cheap. I’ve always just gone out and bought what I wanted and that’s so wasteful! We are not rich people and we aren’t poor, but there’s always room for improvement. There’s always a better way to spend and save money and I’m looking for it.

Onto a different subject… just in case you’re wondering what the girls are up to, I’ll give you and update. Macy is 3 yrs and 4 months. She is going to preschool at our church, 3 days a week. She loves it and I love that she loves it. She really enjoys her teacher and her friends. I think it’s great that she has the opportunity to attend a program like this. She is learning a lot and as much as I hate to admit it, the break is nice also. It’s been nice to have some one on one time with Erin. I really think Macy is going to be a math wiz. She blows me away with all the stuff she knows and how she looks at things. One day I laid 2 popsicles on the counter and I didn’t realize it but I laid them down making an upside down V. Well, she takes a paint brush that was sitting on the counter, moves it to the bottom of the V and makes a triangle! Then the other day I go into her playroom and she’s taken all the Old Maid cards out of the box and laid them out making a perfect square, then she takes these little connecting toys she has and places 2 identical matching pieces on each card. She has the same number of pieces and the same color on each card. It was really strange. She just thinks that way. She’s always been able to pick out shapes in wallpaper or in odd places. My DH is really smart and is great at math; she certainly got it from him and NOT from me. But, she does seem to be really smart.

I’ll catch you up on little Erin… well, little Erin is not so little anymore. She’s almost 22 lbs and close to 8 months old. She’s not crawling yet (and I’m so thankful), but she does roll everywhere. She loves to sit up bang toys together. She has the best smile and laugh! She seems to be more outgoing than Macy was at this age. If we are at a store or out to eat she will stare and smile at a person until they smile at her. Sometimes they don’t look and it makes me so mad. I think that they don’t deserve to see that precious smile :o) She loves to give big, opened-mouthed, wet, juicy kisses and I love getting them! Her face lights up when her big sister is in the room or when Daddy comes home. She is also really into music. When she is on her tummy and I start to sing or she hears music, she goes crazy; it is the cuties thing! She has 2 bottom teeth and her 2 eye teeth have just broken through (she’s going to have fangs just in time for Halloween). All and all she is going great and I could have never imagined that I could love a second child as much as I love that little peanut. She has truly stolen my heart and I don’t plan to ever give it back!

Speaking of Halloween, my MIL has already bought and sent the girls their Halloween costumes. She asked before she did, so don’t get the idea that she just presumes she can buy things like that. Macy is going to be a Minnie Mouse Ballerina, complete with tutu, crown and boa. And Erin is going to be Minnie Mouse complete with sequined ears and red and white ears. They are going to be so cute. I’m going to take them to Wal-Mart to get their pictures made. I’m really looking forward to it.
Are there any Big Brother fans out there? If there are, who do you think is going to win next week? I’m really pulling for Jason. If Danielle wins, I’m going to spit nails!! And the worst part will be is Jason wins, he would have wanted Danielle to win. I could handle either him or Lisa, but not Danielle! Also, any predictions about Survivor? And what did you think about the show last night? True to form, they start voting off anyone that shows and leadership ability. Personally if I was on the show I would vote off the weakest person to start. Don’t vote off your only chance for food and winning challenges right off the bat. That’s one thing that drives me crazy about that show.

Well, I better run. My hands are getting tired and I’ve got tons of house work to do (but when I don’t have tons of house work to do?). Again, I’m so happy to here and I can’t wait to hear from everyone!

Take care,
Lara w/ Macy & Erin
