Kristi's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

September 10, 2003

Wednesday September 10, 2003

Wow, where does time go? I can’t believe that we are basically at the middle of September. School has started again and it is starting to feel a bit like fall.

Ironman Wisconsin 2003
In my last entry I mentioned that I was participating in Ironman Wisconsin on September 7. Well – the race has come and gone. It was a brutally hot and long day for me. Last year the race didn’t feel as hard, where this year I felt like I was fighting to finish all day. The temperature was in the low 90’s and there wasn’t much shade to be found. The highlights of my day were seeing my family, and getting a kiss from Jake while on the run course and then seeing them all again at the finish line.

Jake was a trooper all day – he cheered his little heart out. Then, after I finished, while I was waiting for my turn on the massage table, he lay down on the floor by Mac and I and was off to dreamland in less than 30 seconds! After my shower, I think I fell asleep that fast too!

The House:
We still continue to work on the house. The goal is to have the garage cleared out to the point that one car will fit in before the first frost of the year. That should be manageable, but when your husband works for a bike company and you have 30+ bikes at your house, it becomes a challenge to find space for them, even with a full basement. We are also on the hunt for new family room furniture because the second set that the sent out still rubbed off color – not good. If anyone in the Chicago area has furniture store suggestions, I’d love to hear them. We’ve been to the usual suspects – Homemakers, Wickes, Harlem, Bay etc…and I just can’t find anything I love. I don’t want to break the bank, but I want things that will last and that are comfortable to relax on…too much to ask?

We still have to put blinds on some of the windows – but for now, thank goodness for ‘redi-shades’. My goal is to have most everything done before Jake’s birthday in November so that we can have the whole family over for his party – with Mac’s family that means no fewer than 70 people – yikes!

Fall:
I have to say that I LOVE fall. Even though it means that winter is coming, I love the time of year when we get to wear jeans and fleece and start the fireplace in the evening. There is just something so cozy about that. Now, I don’t love Chicago winters – but they are a part of life here that we just deal with.

One of my projects this weekend is to find all of our fall/winter clothing and make the switch in our closets. This will be somewhat easy, since not all of our summer clothing has been unpacked since we moved in June!

This weekend:
This weekend is my company’s annual picnic. Since I joined the company this summer, I have never experienced the picnic – but I hear that it is amazing. They have everything from kiddie carnival rides to pony rides to games for the adults and also food and drink all day long. I can’t wait to see this thing! Jake is very excited as well – it sounds like there will be tons of kids there to play with. I work for a relatively small company (about 100 people) – but as I understand it – this is THE event of the year…should be fun!

Well – I think this will be a short entry – after being off for a few days, I have quite a lot of work to catch up on.

Take care until next time!
