Nathan 19 ½ months old
Austin EDD Dec 17, 2003
37 weeks pregnant!
Only 16 days left till Austin’s BIG ARRIVAL!!
There is Nothing Better than...
There is nothing better than seeing your child happy. Over the long holiday weekend, Kevin and I were able to take Nathan to the playground that is literally across the street from our house (how convenient is that?) 3 of the 4 days. The weather wasn’t too bad with a jacket or coat. Heck, one day it was even 60 degrees! Nathan had so much FUN playing on the playground. It was so special and priceless to see a huge smile come upon his face when running through the playground. It truly makes all the harder moments melt away. Now that I have Nathan I truly know what my mom has always meant when she would always tell my brother and me that all she wants in life is for us to be happy. All of us had so much fun playing outside this past weekend. It also got us a chance to test out our new double stroller. My parents got us a double stroller for the upcoming arrival of Austin. Nathan didn’t seem to mind the new stroller at all so that is a relief for us. Of course it may be totally different when he all of a sudden has a little baby behind him in the stroller.
Thanksgiving Holiday ~
It was quite different for us to not travel to see one of our families for Thanksgiving. I think in the last 7 years there was only one other time when we didn’t travel for the holiday because Kevin was working on a huge senior design project his last year of college. It was actually kinda nice having the day to get things done and enjoying our own little family. We had turkey, cranberry sauce, crescents, baked potatoes, yams with marshmallows, corn on the cob, stuffing, and caramel apple nut pie. It was a nice meal! After our big meal we had a lot of fun at the playground.
Getting Things Done ~
It feels so good to be getting things done. We have the car seat and bassinet all washed up for Austin. We also have all his clothes nice and clean. I have gotten Nathan’s pictures all caught up and in our album. I have gotten Nathan’s baby book almost caught up. We are slowly but surely getting all our dubbing done with our camcorder. We are in the process of dubbing all our video of Nathan from those tiny videotapes to normal VHS tapes. It has been so much fun seeing Nathan as a baby all over again. It makes me even more excited to have Austin in our lives. I am so happy that we videotaped a lot when Nathan was a baby because pictures aren’t able to capture their mannerisms and personality. Unfortunately, I had forgotten so much about Nathan as a baby, I can’t imagine my lack of memory decades from now. I really hope we are good about videotaping Austin and taking a lot of pictures of him as we have Nathan.
Over the Thanksgiving weekend we also got our Christmas cards sent out to our family and friends (hopefully my iParenting pals will receive them soon!). We also decided to be very brave by putting up our Christmas tree. We weren’t sure how Nathan would react to it. I didn’t want to spend the next several weeks constantly telling him to not touch the tree. But I also didn’t want to wait till last minute to put it up also. So far so good. He is definitely interested in it but has been pretty good about listening to mommy and daddy. We only had one incident where he decided to follow our cat under there, needless to say, daddy got under there real quick to pull him out. We hope to get all our presents wrapped next weekend. It shouldn’t be too hard to get that done because we were only able to buy for Nathan and Austin this year. It feels good to be done with all the Christmas shopping, putting the tree up, and getting cards sent out.
Can It Really Be?
Can it really be only 16 more days until my scheduled c section? Boy, these last few weeks have really flown by! I am so excited about seeing Austin for the first time! I have to admit I am really nervous about having another c section. I am so scared that for some reason the spinal wont work and they will have to put me completely under. I really hope that doesn’t happen. I want to be awake when Austin makes his big debut and I really want to hear his first cry. I have always been afraid of being put asleep because I am scared that I wouldn’t wake up. I don’t really have a reason for this fear but I definitely have it. Let’s just hope that the spinal makes me completely numb.
Kevin and I have decided that the day before Austin’s big arrival we are going to make chili, lasagna, and the other half of our Thanksgiving turkey breast so that he and others have plenty of food around here that is good and easy. It is the least we can do for the people who are coming down for the big arrival and who are going to be helping with Nathan so Kevin can be at the hospital some without him.
It is so hard to imagine how much all of our lives are going to change in 16 days. It is remarkable and scary. We feel so completely blessed to be having another baby. I am constantly thinking about how much Nathan’s life is going to change. I really hope he ends up loving having a little brother. I am so excited to see the two of them together.
These Last Few Days ~
The past few days of pregnancy have been pretty hard. I have the worst heartburn it seems all day and night. I take several extra strength TUMS at a time and it doesn’t seem to touch it. The right side of my neck and my right shoulder has been hurting really bad lately - Aspercreme and Tylenol haven’t seemed to help it much. My huge gag reflux is still in full affect. My lower back and pelvic region hurt really badly. I am constantly feeling like I need to use the restroom.
Nathan Tidbits ~
~ Nathan loves to make animal sounds. He says “meow”, “quack quack”, “baaabaaa”, and a snorting noise for pigs.
~ For some reason Nathan has been calling both daddy and I “momma.” He used to say “daddy or dada” all the time. We aren’t sure why he is doing this but its funny.
~ Nathan really loves numbers, letters, colors, and shapes now. He is really interested in learning them! He recognizes the letter D now and actually makes the D sound.
~ Nathan’s vocabulary has really been growing in the last month or two. He recently started saying, “step” and “right there”. If we ask him where something is in a book, he will point to it and say, “right there.” It is so darn cute! He picked up the word, “step” from our several trips to the playground this past weekend. Every time we would help him up and down the steps of the playground equipment we would say, “step” right before taking a step and he picked it up so quick.
~ One of the funniest things that Nathan does is when he waves his hand like he is saying “bye-bye” to someone but he says in a really cute voice, “wa - wa was.” We have no idea what he is saying or what it means but it is sooooo funny and cute! We know he isn’t trying to say “bye-bye” because he knows how to say that. He will wave his hand and say “wa – wa was” at toys and book pages. He even says it to mommy and daddy a lot.
Thanks for reading as always and I would LOVE to hear from you all. Keep me company these last few days of waiting for Austin’s big arrival!
** For fun, let me know your guesses on Austin’s stats. My c section is scheduled for Dec 17th at 7:30 am. To give you an idea Nathan was 9 pounds and 3 ounces and 21 inches long with tons of dark brown hair **
These are my guesses for Austin David -
Weight: 8 pounds and 5 ounces (I think since he is being delivered two weeks before Nathan was that he will actually weigh less, I think I saw somewhere that babies can gain ½ pound a week towards the end.)
Length: 22 inches long
Hair: brown hair but not much if any
Eye color: blue then green like mine
Date: Dec 17th, I HOPE – not before then :)
Time: 8 am sharp
God Bless~
Kelly, Nathan, and Austin
