Getting Older, Getting Ready, and a SURPRISE in the mail!
Getting Older ~
It’s funny how life has a way of reminding you that you are indeed getting older. The other day, I was reading my hometown paper ( I get the Sunday edition delivered to my home every week, mainly to see the Classified section – hoping my hubby can get a job there and also I LOVE the wedding/engagement pics and announcements) and I could not believe what was right in front of my face!!!! They had an entire page dedicated to all the candidates for the Little Miss Quincy pageant, one particular little girl really caught my eye. She looked very familiar and then I saw why! She is the 5 year old daughter of my ex boyfriend in high school. He wasn’t just an ex boyfriend, he was my first kiss at 16 (late bloomer!) and my first love. I realize now it was just puppy love but back then I knew for sure it was REAL love. I had no idea he had even married, let alone had a 5 year old daughter who he was going to be escorting in this pageant. It was so weird for me to see this little girl, she looks just like her daddy. I just couldn’t believe he had a 5 year old for some reason. It is amazing how time flies! That was definitely a wake up call and reminder to me that I am getting older. On a side note, getting older doesn’t really bother me, I consider every new year a gift from above. It just really amazes me that I am almost 30; it seems like just yesterday I was a crazy in love and a happy go lucky teenager!
There were a couple other little girls whose names sounded familiar to me as well. As if knowing these little girls parents wasn’t enough of a wake up call, on the very next page, there were all the candidates of the Miss Quincy pageant. Just a few years ago, I knew all of the candidates and this time around, I knew none of them. Its so funny how life changes and time passes by. I didn’t know the teens or ladies in their early twenties but I did know of the little girls in the paper – just because I know their parents!
Getting Ready ~
We are still getting ready for Austin’s big arrival in 4 weeks! We have a lot to get done still but none of it should take very long. Famous last word – should! This past weekend we did one of those belly casts. I ended up just buying the kit online. It turned out pretty good and it was actually kinda fun and different for my hubby and me to make. It was kinda difficult to sit in a hard chair that long but I am glad we decided to do it. Now we just have to figure out what to do with it for the rest of our lives LOL! Someday we may paint it a shade of blue since we have two boys but I have no clue where to store it. I can’t really see it on our wall or anything. Any ideas?
We are currently working on our Christmas lists this year. Since money is tight with the new baby coming and all, we have told family and friends that we are only able to buy for Nathan and Austin this year. I feel awful about it but they all understand thankfully. We aren’t going to spend a fortune on Nathan, although I would like to. We know we are definitely going to buy him some coloring books, crayons, a toddler table and chairs set, open the flap books, Baby Einstein flashcards, mega blocks, see n say, Baby Einstein DVD, some baby animal videotapes and maybe a few other little things. I am not sure what we are getting for Austin since he will only be about a week old. We will definitely have a couple of things for him but not a lot this year. We aren’t sure what Nathan’s reaction to Christmas will be this year. He will only be 20 months old at Christmas. When we had our early Christmas in October with Kevin’s family, Nathan wasn’t at all interested in opening the presents himself. That was kinda disappointing but I know next year he will definitely be into it! We aren’t sure when to get holiday pictures done of us as a family and of the two boys. We will probably wait until Austin is around 4 weeks old or so, which will put us into January but they say newborns take better pictures at around 4-6 weeks anyways. We are still trying to find sorta matching outfits for the boys; it hasn’t been easy trying to find one outfit in newborn and 3T – any info on that would be greatly appreciated!
Recently, I ordered Austin a Baby’s First Christmas ornament. I found a great website online. If anyone is looking for personalized ornaments, it’s a great website! The link is:
www.Ornamentshop.com They have personalized ornaments for all occasions, it’s really awesome!
Baby Shower and Baby Shower in a Box ~
This Saturday we are driving up for my baby shower. It is going to be a lot smaller than my first one and actually less than 10 people will be there. It will be a nice and intimate celebration of Austin’s upcoming arrival. My mom and best friend are throwing it for me at my parent’s house. One of my favorite parts of the shower will be when we hand out a journal for everyone to write special messages to Austin. We did the same thing at Nathan’s shower and I can’t tell you how many times I have read that journal and shed so many happy tears at all the precious messages to Nathan. They are something we will keep forever and treasure! Of course, mommy and daddy write in the first couple pages :)
I have been anxiously anticipating a delivery at my home. Leslie of Moms Today and Jennifer of Jen and Jake on Babies Today got together (they both live in Tennessee and recently met in person!) and put together a baby shower in a box for Austin. The great surprise came in the mail on Wednesday night!!!! I was truly blown away by all the presents. I knew they were going to send me some things for Austin but they actually sent me and Nathan some great gifts also! How sweet! That really touched and surprised me! They got me some great stationary, which I love by the way! They also got me some lip balm and hand lotion from Bath and Body, I love that store! They got us some diaper crème, baby oil, and bath wash, all stuff that will definitely come in handy! They got Nathan a great Tonka Junior truck and Tennessee Titan ball, he already loves both! They got Nathan a cute little book about Santa Claus and Christmas! They got a doggie stuffed animal for both Nathan and Austin, Nathan has already given it tons of kisses! They got Austin 7 pajamas, 4 outfits, and a really cute red shirt! They also got Austin a really cute elephant covered in tags/ribbons – all babies love tags and ribbons! I know Austin will totally love the elephant. Nathan sure smiled when he saw it too! I will definitely be taking some pictures of Austin in his clothes and playing with his toys and the same for Nathan! I have posted some pics of the great gifts on our website. I know I always say this, but I truly have met some great ladies on iParenting! I am so thankful to have met you all; hopefully by now you certain ladies know who you are :):):) Not only fellow diary writers but a few diary readers whom I have met as well :)
Thank you Jen and Leslie sooooooooooooo much!!!! I am blown away by your kindness, generosity, and spirit!!!!!!!!!! Bless you both!
Other Tidbits~
~ This past Saturday Nathan got his 2nd haircut. We ended up going to the barber that Kevin uses. If you remember last time, Nathan had a horrible haircutting experience the first time. Needless to say, we knew we weren’t going back to that same salon. He looks like such a BIG BOY!!!! For the most part, we like it a lot, although he did cut it a little too short for our liking in certain spots. I keep reminding myself that hair grows back eventually. We need to start taking Nathan at least once a month to get his haircut, maybe he will eventually get used to it. Just like last time, he cried and screamed the entire time and we had a heck of a time holding him on the chair. The haircut probably would have turned out even better if Nathan would have not been so upset.
~ I can’t believe that next week on the 25th, I have my epidural consult and pre - admitt appt at the hospital, boy time is sure flying. Austin will be here before we even know it!
~ Anyone else watching “Average Joe” on NBC? I had no intentions of watching it but out of curiosity watched the first episode and they sucked me in! Now I am watching it every Monday night – UGH! I really hope Adam (one of the Average Joe’s) wins her heart! I really hope she doesn’t end up with Zach, he is so cocky! It will be interesting to see if she ends up with one of the so called hunks they brought in….. Call me crazy, but only 1 of the 3 I found to be really handsome – I know I am nuts :):)
~ I am completely shocked that Bob the Bachelor didn’t pick Kelly Jo! Man oh man, I can’t believe it! She is Bob in a girl’s body! Maybe he wanted someone that wasn’t just like him ya know? I had a feeling that Kelly Jo wasn’t going to be the one when she kept saying over and over again that she knew he would pick her. I think Kelly Jo and Bob would have been great together; she was my top pick from the first night…… ! I liked the fact that Bob didn’t actually propose to Estella, their relationship may turn out way different in the real world! I like Estella but she wasn’t my fave. If they turn out really happy, I will be really happy for both of them!
~ I am so in love with Nathan! He couldn’t be anymore loving to us! He loves to kiss and hug us and most of the time he goes out of his way to please his mommy and daddy. He loves to hear us tell him, “thank you!” Just the other day, he saw the Pledge dusting spray on the end table and instead of playing with it, he came over to me and said, “Momma” in his sweet little voice and handed it to me before I even asked him. He also loves to hear us say, “Can I have that?” just so he can give us the item and make us happy! He loves to make us happy and to please us. Of course he is still just a toddler so there are moments when he doesn’t like to please us but for the most part, he is a dream toddler! He is my doll baby!
~ Nathan also really loves for mommy to kiss everything from his legos, flashcards, and stuffed animals to him! :) He brings me things and makes this sweet little noise that tells me in his own way to kiss what he brings me!
~ The area we live in has been taken over by ladybugs! I once thought they were so cute and harmless, not anymore! Thankfully, it isn’t just our house that has problems; they are even discussing the problem on the radio waves! We have a ton of them inside our home and we are constantly picking up or vacuuming up dead ones – YUCK! Nathan is constantly finding them and he is always so eager to give me the lady bug so I can throw it away and tell him thank you. He is so cute and funny!
~ Nathan is totally in love with his flash cards right now, he loves to be told over and over again what the picture is and what the letter is (in this case, they are all animals!)
~ Nathan loves to give his favorite toys and stuffed animals drinks from his straw cup! It is sooo cute! Thankfully nothing really comes out of the straw but he thinks it does :)
~ I had a routine OB appt on Tuesday and found out so far I have gained 37 pounds, YIKES! And I still have 4 weeks to go. I wonder how much more I will gain. Will it be a total of 40-45? Man, with Nathan I only gained a total of 30 pounds! It is so hard to believe that I only have two more scheduled OB appts! I have one on Dec 2nd and one on Dec 9th YEAH!!!! It is getting closer and closer. Not only am I anxious to see and hold Austin but also ready to NOT be pregnant anymore! I should relish in every moment of this pregnancy because it will probably be my last but lately that’s getting hard!
~ There are two big things I am hoping to get done before Austin arrives. One is to finish writing in Nathan’s baby book. I have documented most things but have been so bad about actually writing it in the actual baby book. I will never get it done if I don’t do it before Austin arrives because then I will have his to write in as well. The other thing we really need to get done is to finally dub all our mini video tapes onto normal VHS tapes from our camcorder. We seriously haven’t done that yet and now all of a sudden Nathan is 19 months old!
Boy, this turned out longer than I thought it would! Thanks for sticking with me and as always would love to hear from you all! Keep me company in my last few weeks of waiting for Austin!!!!! I am so anxious! :)
We have new pictures on our website under Nov 2003. They are of Nathan’s 2nd haircut and the great gifts that Jen and Leslie sent me! I was going to post a pic of the belly cast that we recently did but have decided to not post it. I am thinking it may be too graphic for some to see since it isn’t just of my belly, if you get my drift! :) If any of my pals out there want to see it, let me know and I would be happy to send you a pic through email.
Thank you to those who told me how much they enjoyed my last entry that was about Austin, it really meant a lot to me :)
God Bless~
Kelly, Nathan, and Austin
