Nathan 18 months old – how can that be?
Austin EDD Dec 17, 2003
30 weeks pregnant already!
Shopping, Our Big Date Night, and Meeting an iParenting Diary Reader!!!!
Shopping!!!
This past weekend Kevin had four days off. It was really nice to have him home for so many days. Normally, he has every other Monday off because he works longer days during the week to have that. Well, his Monday off this week, happened to be a holiday and when that happens he gets to have an extra day off. On Friday, while Kevin hung out with Nathan I decided to go to the Grand Opening of a new Kohl’s store near us. I normally don’t do a whole lot of shopping since money is always tight for us. It was nice for a change. I got a lot of great clothes for Nathan and Austin and most of it was 50% off the regular price! Talk about a bargain! We got a lot of Sonoma and Carters brand name clothes for really cheap. I got Nathan a couple winter sweaters and a winter coat there. I finally bought some clothes for Austin! Buying him clothes made it seem much more real that in two months we will actually have a brand new baby in our home!!! I can’t believe here I am almost 8 months pregnant and I just now bought Austin some clothes. I bought Austin some cute footed pajamas and a cute cotton windbreaker outfit. I also found a really darling “My First Christmas” outfit that he can wear in pictures. It is a white sweater with red pants. I can’t wait to see it on him! It was a nice few hours being out of the house with just me and my huge belly! I am very thankful that my hubby encourages me to get away sometimes!
When people hear I am having another boy they say how lucky we are that we don’t have to buy him any clothes. They assume he can wear all of Nathan’s clothes, which makes sense. Unfortunately though Nathan was born in April so he had mainly spring clothes to start off with and Austin will be born in December so all his clothes will need to start off being winter. I think the sizes and seasons will always be off. Even if they were born, in the same exact month, I would want Austin to have a few clothes that are only his. So, we are pretty much going to have to get Austin a whole wardrobe like we did with Nathan. I am definitely going to mention the clothing issue to close family and friends. We definitely don’t need any new toys for Austin since he can play with all of Nathan’s. But we do need clothes. I don’t expect people to get Austin anything but if they plan to, they might as well get what we need ya know?
Our Big Date Night!!!
Saturday was our big date night. My mom got in town around 3:30 to baby-sit Nathan for us. After telling my mom all about Nathan’s routine and likes and dislikes, Kevin and I left our house around 5 pm. Our reservations were at 6 pm for dinner at the theatre. All we knew going into this restaurant was that it was a buffet style type of dining. Once we were seated, we decided to exchange anniversary cards. I ended up giving Kevin two cards because I couldn’t decide between the two. That is so me! He gave me one really sweet card. It was so funny, when I opened up the card, I literally couldn’t read his writing!!! It wasn’t that it was bad handwriting or anything but the pen he chose to write with in the card didn’t work well with the lighting in the restaurant and the color of the card. Isn’t that a classic? We both got a good laugh about it. So he ended up having to read me my card! It was more special anyway to hear him read it to me. We had an hour and a half to eat our dinner. It was so nice to eat at a slow pace without worrying about entertaining a toddler. Of course all night, I wondered what Nathan was up to and thought of him. The food wasn’t as good as we expected it to be but it was still a nice dinner. There were two different salads to choose from, some very hard rolls, steamed veggies, and three different meat entrees. It was funny, once we had one serving of what we liked, we had no idea if the buffet actually meant all you can eat buffet or just buffet in that you had a little variety. We waited quite awhile before going through the line again. We actually waited till we saw some other table going up there twice. It was really nice to have the time with Kevin. He looked so handsome with his jacket and tie with khakis. It brought back many memories with him actually. Seeing him all dressed up reminded me of all the special occasions he had with his college fraternity. After dinner, we decided to call my mom and see how Nathan was doing. He was doing great and being as sweet as ever! That made me feel a lot better about not being there. Then it was off to our seats for the show! Our seats ended up being perfect for us. They weren’t exactly close to the stage but it was a row of only 5 seats so it was more intimate and we had an aisle seat so it made for more room for me the preggo woman and my husband who isn’t a small person himself. Words truly can’t explain what “The Lion King” was like. It was so beautiful and amazing! I highly recommend anyone who has the chance - to see this show. It was worth every penny, even more so actually. The show started at 8 pm and didn’t end till 11 so it is pretty long but it truly needed the 3 hours in order to tell the whole story of the movie. We didn’t get home till close to midnight. My bedtime is usually 10 especially since I have been pregnant! Nathan went to bed at his normal bedtime at 8:30 so mom only had to actually baby-sit for like 3 ½ hours. It was a wonderful evening and I really appreciate that my mom drove 2 ½ hours to baby –sit for us on our big night out. I will remember the night forever.
And Last But Not Least....Meeting a Diary Reader!!!!!
Wednesday was a big day for Nathan and me. We spent a good part of the morning having a play date with an iParenting Diary Reader. When I first started my Moms Today diary, a really sweet mom (Jill P – mom to Korby and Jake) posted to me on my board. She could tell from one of my entries that we lived very close to one another. It turns out she only lives about 30-40 mins away from me. We have been corresponding for a few weeks now and we both knew we wanted to meet in person eventually. We had seen one another’s picture and pics of our children so that probably put us more at ease to meet face to face. I have to admit, I was sooooo nervous about meeting her. It had nothing to do with her because I knew how friendly she would be but I was unsure what her impression of me would be. Just my anxiety coming through. I pulled into her drive and you won’t believe what happened next as I was getting out of our van.......I KID YOU NOT MY MATERNITY JEANS BROKE! I had on my boot cut maternity jeans and my button that pretty much holds together the waist with the white stretchy waist band BROKE!!!! There I was getting ready to meet someone for the first time and my jeans break on me! I knew I couldn’t just go home and change my clothes so I decided I would just deal with it and be sure to tell her right away of my humiliating story about my jeans in case I kept having to pull them up. As I was trying to walk up to the front door holding onto my jeans to make sure they wouldn’t fall down my legs and carrying a heavy toddler, a cute 3 yr old little girl was running towards me. I knew right away it was Jill’s daughter Korby from the pictures I had seen of her family. She was so excited to have us there for a play date and seeing her really put my mind at ease. Once I got to the front door, Jill greeted me with the biggest and warmest smile. She looked exactly like her picture she sent me. She is tall, thin, and pretty! From that moment on my nerves were gone and I was just excited to be there! The only worry on my mind was whether or not my jeans would fall down! LOL! When we first got there, Jill’s son Jake was napping so for awhile it was just Jill, Korby, Nathan, and myself. I had warned Jill before coming that Nathan might totally freak out when we got there. He is right at the age of stranger anxiety and I knew with it being new people and a new place that it would be probably hard for him. It took him about 10-15 minutes to warm up to the fact we were there. When we first got there, he was on top of me, fussing and sorta throwing his arms at me. I could tell he was just scared. Once or twice he even threw himself backwards. It didn’t take to long for him to see all the great toys they had in their family room. It was so sweet, Korby kept trying to play with him and love on him. She couldn’t be any sweeter! I pretty much sat down as much as I could because I was so worried about my darn jeans. It was a running joke with us the whole time! After awhile Jake joined us all after his nap and it was really interesting to see Nathan interact with both of her children. I wasn’t sure if Nathan would even notice them let alone sorta play with them. At play pals every week, all the toddlers his age pretty much just play with the toys and kinda ignore one another. It was so cute to see Nathan play his version of peek a boo with Jake and Korby. The three of them played off and on for quite some time and then it was getting to be nap time and lunch time. Nathan was having a hard time with sharing the toys with Korby and Jake and I was kinda embarrassed by that but Jill kept reassuring me that it was okay and normal for kids his age. Nathan got pretty fussy and I could tell he was getting super tired and hungry. We tried feeding him some lunch but I think he was just too tired to really eat well and he was still trying to investigate this new place he was in. We were there about 2 hours I believe and it was truly a great time! You really should have seen me try to walk out holding a fussy and heavy toddler while trying to keep my pants up! Or maybe you are lucky you didn’t see me! LOL! Poor Jill may have seen too much of me for the first time meeting me! Perhaps my preggo belly and undies!! UGH! On a side note my sweet hubby came to her house on his lunch break to surprise me with some cash on my seat so I could get some lunch on the way home, he knew I didn’t have any money on me. How sweet is he? I am surprised we didn’t see him in her driveway! Wouldn’t that have been too funny if only Jill saw him out there and thought maybe someone was trying to break into my van? Maybe it’s a good thing we didn’t see him out there! HAHA! Her home is beautiful, very friendly and homey. Our personalities seem to be a lot alike, she was very friendly, outgoing, and laidback. My kind of friend! It’s amazing to think we met because she happened to read my diary! You just never know what can happen because of iParenting! Next time, you can bet I will not be wearing any type of pants that could break on me! HAHAAHA!!! I will be wearing sweats next time so I can totally be carefree and more myself! I hope this is the start of a great friendship! She is my first true mommy friend in this area and I can’t wait for future play dates and maybe even future girl night outs! Thank you Jill for having us over! :) :)
Other Tidbits ~
~ Nathan loves to say “Quack Quack” and “WOW” all the time! It is too cute!
~ He is such a BOY, it is too precious. He loves trucks soooo much! He loves to point to them when we are driving around; he especially loves the diesels on the road. If he doesn’t point to them or notice them, we always like to point to them for him!
~ Nathan is sure protective of mommy. For a few weeks now, he gets so mad when someone touches my belly. It is so sweet of him and really funny. Poor Kevin can’t even touch my belly to feel Austin. I think Nathan is too young to truly realize there is a baby in my tummy, I think he just doesn’t want no one to touch mommy incase they want to hurt me I guess.
~ We decided on Nathan’s Halloween costume! He is going to be Bob the Builder; I am hoping he will keep his construction hat on for at least a few seconds for pictures! We will see!
~ What are you all watching this fall on TV? My shows are Third Watch, Oprah, The Bachelor, Friends, ER, Boston Public, Alias, The Practice, Trading Spaces and for a few laughs I watch MTV’s show Newlyweds with Nick and Jessica. I can’t believe she still has a career after people see her on this show! WOW! I can’t get enough of The Bachelor! I am always anxious for Wednesday nights. I am excited to see who eventually ends up with Bob but at the same time I don’t want it to end. My fave is totally Kelly Jo; they have sooo much in common!! But maybe too much in common, it depends on what Bob is looking for. They have the same great personality and both are from Michigan. But for some reason I think Meredith may be the lady. And Leann – who knows....One week I like her and then the next I don’t. I honestly thought she was gone this week.
~ If you are still reading – There are a great bunch of ladies getting together from this site in Nov in Chicago. There are a lot of people who wanted to join them but with pregnancies and newborns they won’t be able to make it, I being one of them. We are trying to set up another time to meet in Chicago. We are shooting for Feb 2004. If you are interested in getting together then please email me at kelkev12@madisontelco.com or email Raelyn at RaelynJoyner@yahoo.com
Thanks so much for reading! This turned out a lot longer than I had planned! Would love to hear from you on my board! Talk to Me! Have a great week everyone!
Belly Rubs to Raelyn! Sweet Little Abriella will be here very soon!
God Bless~
