Kelly's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

January 1, 2001

Handsome. Loving. Smart. Those are the three adjectives I would use to describe my little boy Nathan at 30 months. He is the light of my life. I look at him and wonder how in the world he ever came from Kevin and I. He is so beautiful and handsome. I admit that I am a bit bias though ;) He is going to keep me pretty busy when he is a teenager. I can't imagine the day he is no longer a little boy in diapers but I know that day is coming. He is a spitting image of his daddy. That is the first thing people say when they see Nathan with Kevin. It is truly amazing to see a "mini Kevin".

Nathan is so incredibly loving. He is always giving us hugs, kisses, and saying he loves us. He has the sweetest voice to boot. He is really into being a family of four. He is always saying, "mommy, daddy, Nay Nay, and baby" It is so precious. If Nathan happens to hear me sigh or take a deep breath, he says to me, "it's ok mommy, Nay Nay is here". Talk about heart melting. The first time I told him I was tired, he said, "I sorry mommy". I couldn't believe he had said that. Of course after he said that to me, I told him thank you but that he didn't need to be sorry and that mommy was okay. He is always telling Kevin and I that he misses us. It is so sweet. When he says it to me, of course I think it's so sweet but I also want to laugh a little because he is with me at all times. He even tells his bubbles that he misses them when they float away whenever we are doing bubbles outside. Since we moved home, he has been spending time with my cousins 3 yr old little girl Averi.

He calls her, "Ageri" He LOVES her big time. It makes me so happy that he has a playmate his age now. He talks about her all the time. When she was over here the first time, they sat at his toddler table and now the chair that she sat in that first day, is called, "Ageri's chair" He doesn't sit in it. He will only sit in the other one. I guess he knows which one is which due to the stickers on Averi's chair. I have taken lots of pictures of them together but still haven't been able to get the film developed. Talk about his first true love :):)

Nathan continues to love his letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. He has known all the letters of the alphabet since he was 20 months old and he still can't get enough of them. He would rather play with letters and numbers all day instead of trucks and cars. He is constantly making letters out of various objects. He loves to form letters with straws and such. He loves to draw letters with chalk. He makes the best h's. He loves to count to 10, sometimes he even counts to 20 or 30. Of course he can't say all the numbers to 30 at 30 months but he does come really close. He loves to tell me all the colors and shapes.

He has really great abstract thinking as well. The other day my brother was putting on a pair of work gloves and Nathan said, "hands play hide and go seek with Nay Nay" My brother and I just looked at each other in complete shock. I am no dummy but I am sure he gets his intelligence from his daddy. Kevin is a genius. Of course I like to think I helped bring Nathan into loving to learn. We have always done a lot with flashcards and at a very early age I introduced letters and numbers to him. It is so amazing how much his vocabulary took off once he turned 2, especially once he got closer to 2.5! He says a lot of full sentences. He is starting to repeat after us as well, so we now have to be extra careful of what we say ;)

He totally adores his little baby brother Austin (we all call Austin "baby" in our house - we have got to stop doing that, in two months he is technically a toddler - oh my!). Sometimes he loves a little too much. They are already getting into wrestling matches. I feel like half of my day is spent being a referee. Nathan gets a little too rough when he tries to love on Austin.

He really is the best toddler. Of course he has his moments but we all do and he is 2 after all. Knock on wood but he hasn't hit the "terrible two's" yet. I know I am totally jinxing myself with this one. Stay tuned lol. Our biggest battles with Nathan right now are so typical 2 - he is a very picky eater! I feel like he is constantly eating the same food over and over again. He also doesn't care to share his toys.

I couldn't ask for more though, he has my heart right in his hands.
