August 22, 2003
18 ½ Months

Where has the time gone? How can my baby be 1 ½ years old already?

Daddy’s Birthday

Ken’s birthday was yesterday, his is the big 31 now :) We didn’t do much of anything last night as he had to work late. We had Boston Market for dinner and Michael bought his Daddy an ice-cream cake for dessert. I bought him a new fishing pole and reel and a couple of pairs of jeans. All in all he said he had a great day.

What’s he doing now…

Michael continues to amaze me on a daily basis. He is growing by leaps and bounds. He is continuing to put sentences together, and starting to ask more questions. “What’s that”, but sounds more like “what’sat”. He loves to point to things and say what they are “It’s da bird”, It’s da dog”, It’s da Ma”. He loves pulling into our driveway every night and seeing his Grandpa. He squeals with delight as he chants “Grandpa pa…” He seems to know his colors a little more, and can definitely tell you if something is blue. He appears to know yellow, red and green as well. He has gotten very skilled at kicking a ball, and throwing a ball. The kid’s got a great arm :) He can jump up and down, and he can roll on the floor. He has almost mastered stairs the “big” boy way. He is getting better on the parts of his body, he know head and will point to it if asked where a hat goes, belly button, feet, and nose. Not as reliable are eyes, ears, mouth, arms and legs. He knows what a snake says, but that is really all the animal sounds he really likes to make. He counts to 3, but normally only makes it to 2. He is also starting to enjoy coloring at restaurants.

Favorites

Michael’s favorites continue to be similar. He still loves Blues Clues and will ask for it or run to the VCR when he wants to watch it. He also loves the Wiggles and his Baby Einstein Video’s. I actually picked up their newest video yesterday “Baby Galileo” and already it is a big hit as it as all his favorites, balls and blue balls. He loves his Ducky and Bunny Gund rugs and they continue to be his sleep time buddies. He enjoys trips to the playground and walks in his stroller. He loves to get his bubbles out every night when we get home and play with those, sometimes for hours. He loves popsicles and ice-cream cones.

Foods

Michael is still a great eater, I really can’t complain. He will eat watermelon 24/7 if you let him. He also loves cauliflower and spaghetti. He is still eating jars of baby food as well. He just loves the stuff and it’s good for him so what the heck...

What’s been going on…?

Nothing much really. We had a huge garage sale this last weekend (Aug 15th and 16th). Ken’s sister and husband brought down a semi-truck loaded COMPLETELY with stuff to sell. They moved out of a house a couple of years ago into an apartment and decided that the storage fees were getting a little out of hand. The garage sale was a complete success and between everyone netted about $1800. WOW! Ken and I ended up purchasing some of the stuff from his sister so we gave them any money that we made off of our sales. The downside of the garage sale is that it was about 90 out with like 85% humidity. It was absolutely miserable. We ended up closing at 2:00 the first day because we just couldn’t stand it. The other thing that I would like to mention is that some of the people that came were just plain RUDE! Courtesy is just something that doesn’t happen as much anymore. We live in a new construction neighborhood and semi trucks were trying to get down our street to move dirt from another house. People were parked so that the semis couldn’t get through and they also wouldn’t pull over to the side of the road to let them by. One semi had to back down our street (about 500+ feet) because they wouldn’t get out of his way. I mean really. Anyway we are planning another one the end of September as they have 2 more storage units left to clean out.

The day before the garage sale DH and I headed to the Cubs game at Wrigley Field. I received tickets from my work. It was miserable that day as well with high temps and humidity but we had a great time. It was fun being just the two of us. My step-mom watched Michael at our house while we were gone, which is a whole story in itself. Basically to sum it up she wanted to take him to her work to show him off, I told her no and she got cranky. She then told us she couldn’t go anywhere with him if she came to our house, which doesn’t make much sense since he is perfectly happy with his toys at our house. When she arrived she wouldn’t speak or look at Ken or me, and brought in her own radio, TV and cooler. Oh well, the worst part is she is ruining it for herself.

Co-sleeping and nursing

Michael is still very happily nursing all night long, and he still sleeps between Ken and me at night. He is teething pretty badly right now. His 4th bottom left tooth is trying to pop through and I think his incisors on top are trying to come in as well. We are giving him Tylenol and teething gel. Poor little guy is just miserable.

Doctor’s Appt.

Michael had his 18 month doctor’s appointment scheduled for the 2nd day of the garage sale and once we saw how crazy Friday was I ended up switching his appt to the 19th of September.

Pictures

I took Michael to JCPenney’s a few weeks ago to get his 18 month pictures done. From the proofs they look great! I had several plain ones done, one of him in his bathing suit with a beach scene, and the last one was him sitting on his Ducky in his diaper. I am hoping to be able to pick them up this weekend!

Me Me Me

Well here’s my update, I still have only had 1, yes that’s right, 1 period since I gave birth to Michael. All the tests at the doctor came back fine, so right now we are chalking it up to breastfeeding.

I am also enjoying a part-time profession of mystery shopping! So far I have made about $500 since April! I love it and Ken is thrilled that I actually am spending someone else’s money to shop :) I do think he is worried about the maternity ones that I did though :)

That’s all I can think of right now…
