Jessica's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

September 21, 2002

I told you in my first entry that my second would be Hana's birth story. I lied.

I realized there were a few important details that I left out of my first entry, so here goes.

1) Hana's Name
a) if you read my first entry and saw that we were married in Hanalei Kauai, and noted that Hana was born just 9 months later, you probably put two-and-two together and figured out the origin of her name.
b) that said, please note that her name is pronounced like "sauna." I fear that the multitudes will think that we just don't know how to properly spell "Hannah."
c) the Margaret (middle name) is in honor of Hana's maternal grandmother and great-grandmother. You got it, they're both named Margaret.

2) Family Lineage
Hana is fourth in a line of Gemini's, and while I am not an astrology buff, I do feel this is important to note for the record. Hana's great grandmother (Margaret) is a Gemini, birth date of May 22 (Hana's EDD, actually). My mother (Margaret) is a Gemini, birth date of May 29. I (Jessica, no Margaret in my name anywhere...)am a Gemini, birth date of June 2. Hana too (middle name Margaret), is a Gemini, birth date of May 27.

On top of that, we're all 25 years apart.

The running joke at my bridal shower in July of 2001 was that Mike & I had better hurry up if we wanted to continue this tradition of Geminis born 25 years apart. We all ha-ha'd and pooh-pooh'd the fact that we would certainly not be able to continue that tradition. Alas, history repeats itself, I guess. Or something like that. In essence, a baby was not planned, but was a very welcome surprise! AND we managed to continue to tradition.

3) Pictures
My wonderful & dear friend Melissa & her husband gave us a fabulous wedding gift: our very own website! You can check out our wedding, get a peek at our house, and witness the fruit of our love (that is an intentional stab at being a corny sap) at www.mikeandjessica.com.

There are no pictures of our cat, Bala, nor have I made any mention of her as a member of our family (till now). This is not because I'm upset with her habit of sleeping in the crib (although she is on my bad side), but simply because, well, she's become second-string lately and I tend to forget about her. Before you call Animal Welfare, let me argue that we do feed her and allow her to sleep on our down comforter (yet she still finds the sparsely quilted crib more enticing).

We hope to keep this updated, but with my scanning skills, it could be a painful process. ANd I'll work on getting a shot of Bala up too.

4) My favorite quote
In another stab at being a corny sap, I thought I'd include my favorite quote here...for no particular reason other than I like it, want to share it, and hope to live by it.
"the aim of life is to live, and to live means to be aware, joyously, drunkenly, serenely, divinely aware."
(Henry Miller)

Next time, the birth story, promise.

Jessica
