February 4, 2003
Something happened today that upset me very much. See, I am very accident-prone and I always feared that one day something bad would happen. That day was today…
I was coming down the stairs, Sarah in hand, when I slipped. I fell down 4 or 5 stairs, dropping Sarah in the process. She tumbled down a step or two and banged her head on the railing before I could rescue her. Naturally, she screamed and I began bawling as well. I called out to my husband, who came and took Sarah from me to check her out and try to calm her down. I was so hysterical that I was making things worse, so it was better that he handled her.
I felt like the worst mother in the whole world! I know it wasn’t my fault, but I just kept replaying the image of her falling and hitting her head over and over in my mind. I am supposed to be the one who protects her, not the one who hurts her! It took me a while to get it together again.
True to toddler form, Sarah was fine within minutes. How did daddy stop her tears? “Do you want some mum-mum?” was all it took. LOL (Mum-mum is food, by the way. The girl loves to eat!)
So, now that I got that off my chest, let’s move on to more positive things…
Sarah is now a full-fledged toddler! Gone are the days where I could turn my back on her, even for a split-second. She is into EVERYTHING! I stepped on the scale the other day and realized I had lost 4 pounds. Now I know why…I chase a whirlwind around all day! LOL
She is now officially walking! She can stop on a dime, turn around, squat to pick something up, and stand back up again. She looks like a little sleepwalker; arms forward, toddling side to side, sometimes humming as she goes along. She is just SO CUTE!! Sometimes I look at her petite frame waddling around and I think, “How did this happen? Is she really old enough to be walking? What happened to my little baby?” It is an overused cliché, but it is so true: It goes by way too fast…
We visited the Dr. on Friday for her 12 months check-up (even though she’s 13.5 months already! That’s what you get when your kid’s birthday is around the holidays.) She got her MMR vaccine, which the nurse said is the worst one b/c it stings. She cried for a minute and then she was fine. My brave little girl! She weighs 20.6 pounds, and is 29 inches long. She has dropped in her weight percentile, but it’s only because she is so much more active now. That jelly belly is trimming down…ha ha!
The doctor was surprised at how many words she can say, like book, bath, duck, etc. =) She also said that we can feed her pretty much anything now, except nuts. So, she can eat whatever we eat, sans condiments, of course. At first I thought, great! This will be so much easier! Then I realized, wait- she can’t eat what we eat…our diets are terrible! Anyone else ever go through this? Nothing like being told you can share your meals with your baby to make you reevaluate your eating habits. So, we have to wean ourselves off the frozen dinners and start eating healthy…for Sarah’s sake. The only problem with all of this is, she only has two teeth! She was a very late teether- she only got these two just about a month ago, and there are no more in sight. Anyone know how I can feed her things without worrying about her choking? Guess I just have to make everything small and easy to gum! LOL
Well, it is very late at night and I fear if I write anymore, it will make no sense whatsoever. One last thing I did want to say though, since I have your undivided attention:
I must promote the BEST show of all time. ALIAS is on ABC, Sundays at 9:00pm. It is about this girl, Sydney, who is a CIA agent. Watch it and you will love it, I promise. This is required viewing for my readers, just like reality TV is for Jeanette and her crew. There will be much talk about ALIAS on my TTM board. It is really, really great and you have to watch, ok? =)
OK, I have to go now because I am totally falling asleep at the keyboard. OMG! It is 2:45am!! See how dedicated I am to you people! LOL. Thanks for tuning in. This concludes my broadcast day.
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.
