Emily 2.5 years
http://www.babiesonline.com/babies/j/jensem/
Fall has arrived. I love everything about Fall. I love the weather and the holidays. Halloween has always been my favorite time of year. I'm sure mostly because my birthday is 2 days before Halloween. It was like a continuation of my birthday celebration. I remember days of walking home from school with a slight breeze in the air, leaves moving across the ground. I love afternooons like that. Unfortunately, it's been so hot lately that we haven't been doing a lot of walks. The temps have been in the high 80's. I can't wait for this hot weather to end. I'm looking forward to wearing long sleeves again.
I think I have decided on a costume for Emily. I want to dress her up as a pirate princess. I figure we can pull off a cute costume with her short bob haircut. This will be her very first year of walking on Halloween. I'm so excited. Last year she was only knee walking and wasn't able to walk around the neighborhood to trick or treat. I wheeled her around in her stroller. I found a farm nearby that has a pumpkin patch and petting zoo. Me and Jeremy are going to try to take Emily there in the next week or so.
We're also planning Emily's first trip to Disneyland. Jeremy's parents will be visiting us Mid October and they wanted us to join them in a trip to Disneyland. I had actually planned on taking Emily after her third birthday, but how can you say no to grandparents? I'm not sure if Emily will enjoy the trip or not. She is still afraid of riding rides and such, but her interests seem to change daily so we just might be surprised.
Emily and I are now attending a music class every Friday morning. We are having so much fun. I knew that Emily was starting to crave interaction with her peers but I was shocked at the impact that a room full of toddlers has on her. She loves it. There are things she does with the children as a group that she would never do at home. Seeing this positive influence, I decided to enroll Emily in a tumbling class also. I'm hoping this will help with her motor skill delay. All of these classes are parent participation. I have already met a few really nice moms in the group. Sometimes it seems really hard to meet other moms.
Speaking of meeting other moms. I have had a couple of playdates and even a mom's day out with Carmajo of Mom's Today. I'm sorry to see that she has closed her diary but I completely understand her decision to do so. I'm so glad to have met her in real life. Emily loves playing with Adrianna (Carmajo's DD). The day after one of our recent playdates I caught Emily sitting on the couch with her hand to her ear babbling away. I asked her who she was talking to and she answered, "Manana" (Anna/Adrianna) I got such a kick out of that.
Earlier this week I went to a taping of the Dr. Phil show with Carmajo and her mom's group. I had a great time. Knowing that I was going to be on tv I spent much of the days prior preparing myself to go to the show. We were informed that the dress was "business". I hate to admit this but I've become rather lazy with my clothing choices. I haven't gotten into the T-shirt and sweats realm, but I was definitely closer to that end of the spectrum than "business" dress. I have also been struggling with my weight issues and couldn't find anything in my closet that would fit me...so sad. I finally rounded up a decent looking outfit and then realized...my hair needs some work!! I had my hair cut and colored months ago and was long overdue for both but didn't have time to get both done. I decided to go to the nearest walk in salon and just get a trim to put some life back into my hair. The stylist took about an inch off all away around and then started to blow dry my hair. I don't normally run a brush though my hair and blow dry it because I always end up with a frizzy mess. I like to diffuse and let the naturaly curls do what they want to do. Well, imagine my surprise when all the drying was done...I had a cute hairdo!! I was so shocked. I didn't know I could wear my hair straight. It only tooke me 30 plus years to figure this out. Unfortunately I couldn't recreate the same look the next day so I ended up taking 2 showers to get my hair wet again and wear it curly. So typical.
I was proud of myself for manuevering my way through the freeways of Los Angeles, getting into Hollywood and ultimately finding the studio all on my own. Carmajo showed up with her friends shortly after I arrived and we had a lot of fun at the taping. The subject was about prejudging people and I enjoyed being a part of the taping. The audience camera was all over our area. On one had I am excited about the possibility of being on tv, but on the other hand I'm terrified of my fat face ending up on tv. This fear has really helped my dieting efforts.
On this same subject of meeting friends I have to mention that I recently have had to say goodbye to a dear friend of mine that I met on my Born In board, Micki. Micki has just moved to Utah and I already miss her. I remember the first time that Micki and I met each other. We had planned a meeting at a mall near me. Our kids were both around 9 months. It was nice to be able to visit in person. We both have had pretty busy schedules and didn't live really close to each other but we made an effort to get together whenever we could. I definitely understand what it means to realize what you have when it is gone. I get sad realizing that we won't be getting together for playdates any more. Sometimes we would be so busy that we didn't even email each other for weeks at a time. But when we got a chance to talk, it was like no time had passed. I'm hoping once Micki is settled we can communicate on a more frequent basis.
We are getting new neighbors as I type this entry. Our apartment is on the second floor and we share a landing at the top of the stairs with our neighbor. When we moved here our neighbors were girls who attended the University nearby. They were wonderful neighbors. We never had any problems with noise or any visitors they had over. They moved away about a month ago and I've been on pins and needles wondering who would be moving in to that apartment. It looks like a few young guys are moving in now. I HOPE HOPE HOPE that they end up being good neighbors too. They don't look like the partying type, but you never know.... :)
This morning Jeremy, Emily and I went shopping for clothes and had a good time. Tonight Jeremy and I are hoping to catch a movie while my parents watch Emily. I'm not sure what we'll be seeing. Anything would be great. It's been months since we last saw a movie together. We had used all our babysitting time with my parents to go to sailing classes. I am proud to say that in the days since getting my new haircut I have finally figured out how to straighten my hair and produce a somewhat "cute" hairdo. YAY ME!!
On that note I think I'll end this entry..
