Mother’s Day Nightmare, Literally.
I can’t believe that my Mother’s Day began with me waking up at 4 a.m. after having had the worst nightmare of my life. I’m not really one to have dreams all that often. When I do have a dream it is usually just kind of strange but never scary. Last night was definitely the exception. I dreamt that a lady had gotten into Emily’s room in the middle of the night by sawing an opening from the adjacent apartment to us into Emily’s closet. I caught her in Emily’s room while she was in the middle of changing Emily’s diaper. The woman kept telling me what a terrible mother I was and that she was there to take Emily away from me.
I’m sure any therapist would have a field day with that dream. I woke up so upset that I couldn’t sleep for over an hour afterwards.
How we celebrated Mother’s Day.
No breakfast in bed for me. Jeremy, Emily and I did laundry all morning. Doesn’t that sound like FUN? Before you think that Jeremy is a bad husband I better explain. I have always told Jeremy that I cannot stand the idea of breakfast in bed. I don’t know if that is strange or not, but the idea of eating anything before brushing my teeth and having a good shower just does not appeal to me. So, you may wonder, what is the deal with laundry on Mother’s Day? We live in an apartment that is on the second level with no washer and dryer. Therefore, laundry is done at a the apartment complex laundry room. This can be really difficult when done alone (especially with Emily in tow), so Jeremy and I do it together. I enjoy the time we have together in that laundry room. We visit with each other while Emily runs circles around the machines singing her latest tunes. In between the wash cycle, and drying cycle we run quick errands around town. Today we went to the bookstore. That leads me to two more subjects….
Do you bribe your children with candy?
Emily usually listens to what I say in public. With her newfound freedom of walking the past few months, she has started to test her boundaries a little more. For the most part I don’t have a problem with her screaming or getting upset over something in public. Usually it is short lived. Every once in a while when I want to avoid a “disturbance” I put a couple of jelly beans in my purse “just in case”. Nine out of ten times I don’t need to use them. Since we were in a bookstore this morning that was very quiet I used a couple of jelly beans to lead Emily to the book section I wanted to browse and also to keep her at the cash register when I purchased my book. Is it bad to use them the tenth time? I’m still undecided on that matter. Any opinions?
Getting Fit.
The reason that all went to the bookstore in the first place is to get a healthy cookbook. Jeremy and I have completely changed our diet and exercise. In the past week we have worked out everyday and have been eating healthier than we have in a long time. I cannot believe how much better I feel now. One drastic change has been out sleeping schedule. We are reformed night owls. Jeremy and I used to go to bed around 2 a.m. every night and waking around 8 a.m. Now we are in bed no later than 11 p.m. and getting up by 6 a.m. I never thought it would be that easy to change our lifestyle. It’s been fun cooking together and even planning menus. Who would have thought?
Survivor Night.
Once Emily wakes from her nap we will all be leaving to celebrate the rest of Mother’s Day with my parents. I can’t wait for the finale. I am such a reality TV junkie.
I hope everybody had a wonderful Mother’s Day.
Love,
Jennifer
