In less than a week Christmas will be here. Yesterday I finally finished all of my Christmas shopping and it feels so good to know that I am done. In all honesty it seems strange to even be talking about Christmas being here. My whole year has flown by. It all seems like a blur since the day my mom called to tell me that my dad had some serious problems related to cancer. We ended up moving to Missouri within a week and we lived with my parents for 7 weeks without Mark. This summer by far was the toughest time I’ve ever had to endure. I vow to never-ever be without my husband longer than 24 hours for as long as I live. :0)
Last week we had our first snow. After living in Texas for nearly 4 years it was so special to see the snow and watch the excitement in Autumn and Gabriel’s eyes when they woke up that morning. I pulled open the mini-blinds in their room and told them to look outside. They both crawled out of bed and peered out into the sea of white that covered the ground. I told them that they didn’t have school and they both immediately asked if they could go play in the snow. After breakfast and then getting all bundled up, they headed out into the cold. I joined them later that day and built a small snowman, which took about an hour. We used Apple Jacks cereal for his mouth, eyes and nose and then put one of Mark’s baseball caps on his head. We named him Sam! :0)
Last Saturday I made (store bought dough) sugar cookies and let the kids decorate them with icing, gel, sprinkles and edible stickers. It was fun to watch them be creative and we all enjoyed making a memory. On Sunday morning I got a phone call from Jennifer (mom to Collin and Ireland) saying that she had had Ireland the night before. I was SO excited to hear from her again and to know that everything went so well. She doesn’t have her birth story up yet and I don’t want to ruin anything...so I wont give away any details. Congratulations again to Jennifer and Mark on the birth of precious Ireland. :0)
On Sunday night we decided to go to the church that my parents attend in Branson. We enjoyed the service so much. We had been a few times before and always felt so welcome and at home there. That night Mark and the pastor set up a time for us all to meet and talk, which would be Wednesday night. They were to have a Christmas dinner and afterwards we would talk with them about helping on their praise and worship team.
One of the gifts that my mom is giving to my dad for Christmas is a recording of my brother and I. When Andrew and I were little we used to sing together all the time and it’s something that my dad treasures so much. My mom had the idea to have Andrew and I each sing a song of our own and then one together. So, tomorrow we are going to a recording studio in Branson to record our songs for our dad. On Wednesday Andrew came over so that we could practice the song that we would sing together. Actually we were trying to decide on which one to do and we went through several that day. We didn’t decide which song we would sing until last night, but I’ll get that in a minute. On Wednesday night we went to church and had a wonderful time eating and visiting with the people at church. They had a song service where several people sang Christmas songs and then afterwards we had our little meeting. Mark and I expressed our hearts to the pastor and his wife and told them that we were excited to be a part of the church. After the first of the year we will be helping with their praise team.
Tomorrow (Sunday) we have a busy day. In the morning we are going to church in Branson. Then when it’s over we’ll go to my parents to have lunch with our whole family. When that’s over my brother Andrew and I will leave to record our songs. My dad has NO idea so it will be extra special when he gets it. I’ll be singing the Celine Dion song "Because you loved me" and Andrew will sing "Sweet Memories" by Guardian. Then we’ll sing "Oh Holy Night" together. When we get back we will have our Christmas together and exchange presents as well as have some yummy deserts. Later in the afternoon we will all go to the IMAX theater to see a movie called "The Snowman". Then tomorrow night we will have Ben and Chris (my nephews) stay the night since all the kids are out of school for Christmas break. Andrew and Heather are going to see "Return of the King". Mark and I took Autumn and Gabe to see it on Thursday night. Halfway through the movie Gabriel got sick and thought that he was going to throw up...so Mark took him home. We were there with Mark’s brother and his friend, so Autumn and I got a ride home with them when the movie was over. The movie was spectacular and this trilogy is by far my favorite movies of all time. Mark promised Gabe that he’d take him to see it again really soon so they can see how it ends. :0)
My little Christian is really becoming a talker. He seems to really enjoy the movie Finding Nemo and will repeat several of the words that he hears on there including "dude". Adorable! After the holidays are over I plan on buying a potty-chair and introducing him to it. We’ll see how well that goes.
Matthew’s paperwork for school has all been signed and sent in. They said that the wait would take around 8 weeks and in the mean time he’ll have in home care. I should be hearing from the lady who will come and help Matthew next week. He has an appointment with a new pediatric neurologist on the 23rd and I’m really excited. I’m hoping that we can get some things taken care of and find a diagnosis for Matthew once and for all.
I wanted to say congratulations to Kelly (MT writer) on the birth of her second son Austin. Also, congratulations to Julia (PT writer) on getting such promising news from her latest ultrasound. You are always in my prayers Julia.
From our family to yours, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I’ll write up a new entry after Christmas is over.
Take care and Happy Holidays~
