Toxic Shock Syndrome is something we hear about and read about. I personally don't know anyone who has ever had it. Have you? Well, now you do! I have not been diagnosed with TSS but all of my symptoms point to it especially after yesterday. But I'll get to that in a few minutes. Let me go back to many years ago when Autumn and Gabriel were babies. Mark and I were living in a small apartment in the town I grew up in. On a typical night, Autumn woke up in her crib and needed to be soothed back to sleep. I was having my period at the time and was using a tampon as usual through the night. When I got up to go help Autumn I noticed that I was light-headed and dizzy. The next thing I knew, I was on the floor and Mark was hollering at me to see if I was okay. I honestly had no idea what had happened until he told me that he heard a thud and came running to see what had happened. My stomach was sick and I just didn't real right. I had remembered reading about the symptoms of TSS and thought that it could be happening to me. So I removed the tampon and within minutes I was much better. That month I had bought Playtex tampons which I don't normally buy and decided that I'd switch to a different brand and see how they worked. After that, I had no problem and the years went on. Although a few years ago I did have some massive cramping in my abdoman during a period one month and when I removed the tampon, the pain went away within minutes.
I've never told any of my doctors about these problems because I, like many women only see an OB/GYN while pregnant and post pardum.
So this brings me to yesterday. Yesterday was Wednesday, the fifth day of my period and I was using an off brand of tampons because the ones that I had been using (Kotex) had been giving me yeast infections. Lovely eh? This off brand was doing fine until yesterday I noticed some dull aching pain in my left breast and under my left arm pit. I also got light-headed, nausous and my legs started aching. I laid on the couch for a few minutes and thought that I just needed to let it pass. But when I got up again, I still felt bad and nearly passed out. My ears were ringing and I knew that something was really wrong. I immediatly thought of TSS and went to the bathroom to remove my tampon. Within 15 minutes I was feeling much better. At that point I went back into the bathroom and threw the box of tampons away. I vow to never-ever use them again. For some reason they just don't agree with my body and it could have caused serious damage if not worse.
I honestly feel like TSS is what has caused the problem, even though I have not talked to a doctor. I do not have a gynaecologist here since we just moved and in all honesty I just don't have the money to go. Sad but true!
So this leads me to some questions. Have you or someone that you know personally ever had TSS? If so I would really appricate hearing your story. Do you have any information other than what I have found on line that might be helpful too? I would love to hear what you have to say.
Thanks so much~
Jennifer
PS~ I will update about my darlings soon, I promise. :0)
