Part 1 of my Texas trip~

On Saturday (2/21) morning I woke at ten minutes till six. No alarm was set...only the excitement of knowing that I'd be flying to see my best friend in Texas that day. I got up to use the bathroom and decided to go ahead and start getting ready. It's not often that I get several hours of quiet time that early in the morning. I spent the next several hours getting ready and packing the rest of my things into my suitcase. Around 9 o'clock I woke up Mark and we decided to wake the kids and take them out to breakfast. I really enjoyed my morning with my family and it gave us the perfect opportunity to visit before I left. After we ate, we went back home for about an hour and a half to rest and load the van up. Mark had planned on taking all the kids in to the airport so that they could all see me off and wave goodbye. But as the time got closer for me to go, we knew that wouldn't happen. Gabriel started to cry. Which made me cry. Then Mark told him that he wouldn't get to go into the airport if he didn't stop...but the poor boy just cried harder and harder. He cried all the way to the airport and when it was time for me to get out...he was hysterically sobbing, and so I said goodbye to family there in the van and watched them drive away. Once inside the airport, I stood in a massive line in order to check my suitcase and get my boarding pass. That whole process took around 45 minutes and while I stood there I snickered along with several other passengers at how ridiculously slow the workers were. My flight was delayed 25 minutes and it's a darn good thing it was or I would have been STILL standing in line when the plane flew off. Once I was checked in and ready to go, I walked to the gift shop and bought a magazine to read on my flight. I headed on through security where I had to remove my jacket and my shoes and then walk up the stairs to my gate. As I mentioned, my flight was delayed 25 minutes which meant that we didn't take off when we were suppose to. My plane landed in Dallas Ft. Worth at the same time that my next plane was boarding. I needed to be at gate C-31 and they just happened to drop us off at gate A-2. How precious of them eh? I got off the plane and dashed through the doors in just enough time to get on the bus which took us to the B terminal. From there I found my way to the train and got on. I waited anxiously as it inched towards terminal C. Once the doors to the train opened I was flying like the wind, running up the escalator, coming out at gate 13 and then running full speed down to gate 31. At one point there was the man running too and as I passed him he looked at me and said in a silly voice "Are you running with me?" I smiled and said "sure" as I passed him up and trotted up to gate 31. I threw my ticket at the attendant and she asked me if I was on this flight. I gasped for air and managed a yes out... all without stopping. I went on through and was the last one seated on the plane. The man sitting next to me smiled kindly but I'm sure he was slightly annoyed. Ahhh well...it really wasn't my fault at all. And had I not ran like lightening through Dallas, I would have had to catch another plane at a later time. But there I was on my plane and bound for Austin. Only 35 minutes away from see Gay, my best friend in the whole wide world. I took a deep breath, removed my coat and settled into my seat. And as the plane lifted into the air I felt like a kid full of excitement before a trip to Disneyland. I began to daydream of how exciting it would be to see Gay and I wondered how I would react, how she would react and weather everyone around us would think we were nuts. You see it had only been 8 months since I moved away from her. But when you're that close to someone you hold so dear...8 months felt like near eternity. I had made a spur of the moment decision to move our family to Missouri because my dad had cancer and I wanted to be near family. Within a matter of days I had to say goodbye to Gay not knowing when I'd see her again. We talked on the phone all the time and when we planned this trip we both laughed at how we thought our reunion might be. Me running towards her and she towards me, just like in some sappy Hallmark commercial. We pictured someone around us asking if it had been years since we'd seen each other and that we'd reply with "Noooo just 8 months" and laugh. However...as my plane descended into Austin, I knew that there would be no screams of joy or tears at all. I was thrilled to be there...finally. I walked down a long terminal passing gate after gate and headed for the baggage claim. I turned the corner to the left to go through security and there she was. Standing at the top of the stairs were Gay, her husband Sidro and Gay's niece who attends college in Austin. As soon as I reached her we threw our arms around each other for a huge hug and laughed. There she was in front of me, finally. So my vacation begins!
