Nothing fires me up more than hearing about or seeing clips on television about child abuse. I seriously have to leave the room when they report about another child being beaten or slapped by his mother or babysitter. My stomach knots up and I start to feel nauseous. This morning the news showed a video clip of a foster mother hitting one of her children and the child was bent over crying. The woman was arrested, thank god. But my heart breaks for the children. These precious little babies who suffer at the hands of these irate and irresponsible adults...and cannot defend themselves. For every abusive act caught on tape, think of how many go on that no one sees. We have experienced the shock in our iParenting community of Shaken Baby Syndrome. There have been many discussions on boards about discipline and how even letting your baby CIO can be abuse. Regardless of what your views are, the point that I'm trying to make is that abuse, ANY abuse, not just physical or sexual...but mental and verbal as well, is sickening and it needs to stop. Moving on!

Valentine's Day~

Last week, while Autumn and Gabriel were in school I went shopping to buy their Valentine cards for them to hand out at school on Friday. I also picked up two heart shaped boxes for them to use to hold their Valentine cards in. Each year they get to decorate a box any way they choose. This year we hot glued candy hearts to their boxes and put Valentine stickers on them. They were adorable! On Friday, before their Valentine party at school I went by the school to drop off gifts for Autumn and Gabriel. I had bought chocolates and candies, toys and a stuffed puppy dog for each of them and put it all into gift bags. Each year Mark and I send them something special on Valentine's Day and it's so sweet to see their faces as they walk out holding their gifts from mom and dad.
On Saturday Mark had to work late. It was dark when he got home and I was resting on our bed when he walked into the room. He was holding a gift bag from a jewelry store and he handed it to me and said Happy Valentine's Day. Inside was a heart shaped ruby ring with diamonds on each side, a matching necklace and pair of earings as well. I was SO shocked and happy! What a precious gift from such a precious man.

Matthew~

Since we made our move from Buffalo, Matthew has not been in school. I registered him at the school that Autumn and Gabriel attend. They told me early on that they would be sending some one from the Speical Education Department over to talk with us about placing Matthew into a State School for the handicapped. We had our in home meeting back in December and the paperwork was sent off. I was told that it would take 6 to 8 weeks before we knew if Matthew had been accepted and I was fine with that. Well, yesterday we found out that he has indeed been accepted and will be starting school some time in the first of March. Mark and I will have the oppertunity to tour the school and meet all of his teachers. I'm really looking forward to him getting into a school which is dedicated to helping children such as Matthew.

My trip~

On Saturday I'll be taking my vacation to see my best friend in Texas. I cannot believe how quickly the past 7 weeks have gone by since we planned this trip. I'm now ready to go and just have to pack my suitcase. I've had to deal with a little guilt about leaving my family for a week. I suppose it's because I've never not been with my children except for when I was in the hospital giving birth or when I lost two babies. I understand that every mom needs her time away and that it will probably do all of us a lot of good. I am looking forward to my visit but will miss my family terribly.

That's about it for now. I'll write again when I'm back from my vacation and will hopefully have new pictures to put up.

Take care~
