*BOWLING*
So how is your New Year going so far? Ours has been hectic but very good and now that the kids are in school it seems like things are getting back to normal. On Friday night we took the kids to a local bowling ally so that they could bowl with their friends. Their school was having a family fun night. The place was totally packed with children and every lane was full when we got there. There was no place to sit down, so we found an empty space to set Matthew in his wheelchair and then I helped Autumn and Gabe find some friends so they could play a game. They were both bowling within 30 minutes and had such a great time. Nearly all of their balls went into the gutter mind you, but they had a blast all the same. Mark and I watched them while we fed Matthew and Christian some popcorn. Christian didn’t want to sit still at all, so we took turns chasing him around the place. He had a blast and we all enjoyed ourselves.
*CHRISTIAN*
Christian has been talking so much more these days. We taught him to put up both thumbs and say "cool dude" which sounds adorable. Whenever we change his diaper and it’s poopie, we will wave our hand around and say "shew" while we wrinkle our nose. Christian copies this and we crack up every time. Well, the other night I took him to the grocery store with me to get a few things. Have you ever noticed how when you walk by the fresh fish/seafood counter it sometimes smells really "rank"? I had Christian in the front of the cart and when we passed by the fish I could smell the terrible odor but didn’t comment or make a face. All of a sudden Christian raised his hand up and started waving it and said "Shhheewwww". I cracked up!!! I walked to the other side of the store and then walked back just to see if he’d do it again and sure enough, when we walked by the fish he made it known that he did not like that smell. Hilarious!
*MATTHEW*
Since Matthew is still not in school, they have started sending an in home teacher to help him. She basically just reads to him or plays with his toys with him for now. She is working on getting some interactive toys and games that she can use with Matthew. For now, she’ll come to our home 3 to 5 times a week for 30 minutes at a time just until Matthew gets accepted to his new school. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned anything about the school that he’ll be going to, but it sounds wonderful. They specialize in helping/teaching children who are "special" like Matthew. He’ll be in a classroom with several teachers and receive a lot of one on one there. The school goes year-round but they take several breaks for two and three weeks at a time. He’ll be able to go there until he’s 21 years old.
*MY VACATION*
Next month will be so exciting for me. I’ll be taking my very first vacation all by myself. My friend Gay, who lives in Texas, asked me to come and visit her. I’ll be staying with them for a week and she will take that time off of work so that we can visit, shop, go see friends, and hang out. I’ll be flying in to Austin where she and her husband will pick me up. This will be the only time I’ve ever been on a trip not only by myself but it will be the longest time I’ve ever not been with my children. I’m wondering who will cry more, them or me! :0) I know that I’ll have a blast and I can hardly wait to go.
*FAT BE GONE*
On another positive note, one of my New Year’s resolutions was to get the rest of my weight off and keep it off. I’m am so excited that I have been sticking to my diet and exercising regularly. I am only 14 pounds away from my goal weight and it’s such a thrill. I have not been this size (8) since I was in junior high. I am reaching for a size 6 by the time I go on my vacation. I cannot wait to accomplish this goal.
Take care~
