November 8, 2003
Collin is 2 years, 4 months old.
I’m 33 weeks pg.
It’s been awhile, sorry. We’ve been busy and now that it’s slowed down some, Collin and I are battling a whopper of a cold.
I think it’s been about three or four weeks since I’ve updated. In that time I’ve had two OB appointments. Both were routine and as expected. Blood pressure has been great, around 130/70, I’ve gained 5 more pounds, putting my total so far at 23. This last appointment I went ahead and got a flu shot. I’ve never had a flu shot but have decided it might be a good idea to get one. Not only do I want to avoid the flu while pregnant, but also I don’t want to bring the flu home when we have an infant. Mark got a flu shot at work last week so we are both set. I still haven’t decided whether or not I’m going to have Collin get one. I have two more bi-weekly OB appointments and then I start going every week. I knew that after Halloween was over, time would really start speeding up and it has.
Last month I went to my first Le Leche League (LLL) meeting. Not only did I get the chance to meet a handful of nice ladies but also I sat and absorbed all the great information and tips they had about breastfeeding. I learned a few things so I’m glad I went. I’m going to go to another one this month, which is held on November 18th. That will probably be the last one I go to until I have a wee one in my arms again.
My stomach is S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-D as far as I think it might go, even though realistically I know it will get even bigger. I thought for sure I wouldn’t get any new stretch marks since Collin’s pregnancy took care of that for me. I was wrong. Since I’m carrying higher this time around, I’ve gotten two small batches at the top of my stomach. Most nights my stomach itches like crazy. I’m going to have to start slathering on the lotion to keep it nice and moisturized. I know it won’t keep the stretch marks away but it should keep the itching at bay.
It’s getting very hard, if not impossible, to do small tasks like put on my shoes and socks. It’s also getting very hard to get a comfortable night sleep. I toss and turn most nights and feel like my hips are being torn apart. Mark says I snore a lot too, but that doesn’t bother me. Payback time for all those nights he’s kept me up sounding like a rusty chainsaw hacking away at a tree.
I’ve taken my wedding band off, but am still hopeful to wear my engagement ring throughout the rest of this pregnancy, although I’m doubtful. Does that make sense? Can I be hopeful and doubtful at the same time? There are days where my engagement ring gets really tight too and I take it off, but each time I walk out of the house without it, I feel “naked” and go and put it back on. I know it’s lame, but I feel weird walking around public being pregnant without my wedding rings on. Just a hang-up of mine I guess.
I still have no real food cravings this pregnancy. The only thing that I have been craving consistently been sweet soda. Orange Sunkist, Grape Fanta, Strawberry Fanta, Root beer, caffeine free Dr. pepper, Mt. Dew and Sprite have been my favorites. I can’t even remember the last time I’ve even had a grape or strawberry soda and here I sit craving them all the time. I’ve even found myself craving certain things like Kool-aide and Hi-C, which is strange because I don’t even care for those types of drinks. Speaking of Hi-C. Does anyone remember when they used to have tons of different flavors of Hi-C? Now it seems they only carry a few, and you can only get them in the juice boxes. Whatever happened to the big cans or the bottles? My all-time favorite Hi-C flavor is Ecto Cooler. Ahhh, what I wouldn’t do for a big bottle of that right about now!
I’ve been nesting lately. I’ve cleaned out all the closets and now I’m starting to get that itchin’ to get everything in it’s place and organized. I’m starting to go crazy with my list making. We’re still in the midst of moving the office down to the family room so we can make the office Collin’s new “big boy” room. We’ve got a good start, but we need to kick it up a notch. Mark has next weekend off from the band so we plan on painting and getting the rooms switched over. Once that’s done we’ll just need to deep clean the nursery and get everything set for Ms. Ireland.
Mark had a whole week worth of vacation from work a few weeks ago. It was wonderful having him home all week and we got a lot of things done around the house. Yard work, garage cleaned out, family room cleaned and organized and bought all the things for Collin’s room. We had three gift certificates to use up at various stores so we went and used those up too. One of the places was Old Navy. We bought Ireland’s coming home outfit. We picked out a cute pink long sleeved onsie with snowmen and snowflakes on it, a pink pair of cotton pants and some adorable pink and purple striped socks. Very pink so I really hope “she’s” a girl. **laugh**
While Mark was home, Collin got very fond of having his daddy around. Each morning when he (Collin) would wake up instead of calling for mommy he would say, “Daddy, come in here please!” Now that Mark is back to work, it’s back to wanting mommy all the time, especially since he’s been sick for a week.
Collin has been learning and coming up with so many neat things lately. He’s now eating most of his meals at the table in a regular chair. He’s standing up to go pee now, wants to know what time it is all the time, is learning about the seasons and has also started testing his limits. He asks all the time what we are doing, what sound was it he just heard, what the neighbors are doing, who I’m talking to on the phone, what the cat is meowing about, etc. He’s very interested in his surroundings and wants to know, in great detail, what is happening. Nothing passes his ears or eyes without a question.
He’s also started really testing out his limits. I know this is a healthy and normal part of where he is at right now, but it gets a tad wearing on the nerves for us. He has been testing how far he can push us, hitting, throwing things, and being a little bossy. We gently try to remind him to be nice and what is inappropriate and appropriate and better ways of dealing with all his emotions. I try to stress using words instead of just yelling or screaming or throwing something around. Most times it works but we’re dealing with a 2 ½ year old so I can’t and don’t, expect too much. One thing I’m really proud of is how he always says please such as “excuse me please” or “I need help please.”
For playtime and toys, Collin is really into Spiderman. He walks around acting like Spiderman and will walk up and throw an imaginary web your way. He loves to crawl on the floor and act like he’s Spiderman crawling up a wall. He’s really into his hot wheels/matchbox cars and he still loves books, paints, crayons, and crafts. He’s really getting into imaginary play too. His favorite television programs are still Dora the Explorer and Sesame Street.
As for sizes, Collin is wearing 9.5 shoe, 3T pants and 4T shirts and PJ’s. He’s all set for winter – he’s got his winter coat, his snowsuit, mittens and hat. All we need to get are his snow boots so he can go out and have fun in the snow we’re probably going to get hit with soon.
For Halloween he was a black cat. He looked so cute and even wore the ears on his head. He was able to get dressed up three times in his costume since we had few different Halloween functions to attend. We had a church Halloween party, a zoo Halloween party and then regular trick or treating. He raked in the candy on Halloween night. He wasn’t too interested in the chocolate; he just wanted the Smarties and the lollie-pops and suckers. Okay by me considering I snuck most of the chocolate for myself. Bad mommy!
We also went to the pumpkin patch and had a lot of fun. Of course it was freezing cold that day and we weren’t quite prepared for the chilling temps so we had to leave early, but we still had fun and even managed a cup of hot cocoa and a funnel cake. Since Mark was on vacation that week, we baked Halloween cookies, carved pumpkins and made Bat Brownies. Collin was so excited, I’m having fun just imagining how excited he’ll be over Christmas and all the fun things we can do to celebrate the holidays.
I’m about to wrap this up since my ears are hurting, my nose is dripping like a faucet and my throat feels like I just gurgled a thorny rose stem. Having a cold during pregnancy is not fun since I’m not able to really take anything. I’d love nothing more then to slug down some Nyquil and sleep for 12 hours.
Collin had a temp of 102 almost all of last week. Thursday afternoon it finally broke and he started getting a stuffy nose and cough. By the next day I had the aches and pains and a full blown cold myself. I’ve been letting Collin sleep with me, in our bed, for a week now so I could keep an eye on him, wipe his nose when he sneezes and just be there for him when he feels crummy. I remember sleeping with my mom when I felt sick and it always made me feel cozy and secure. I’m hoping that when Collin feels better, he understands he has to go back to his own bed. If not, we may have a battle on our hands. I don’t mind him sleeping with me, if fact I really enjoy it. It’s been a treat being able to watch my precious angel sleep, the sweet, sweet look on his face while he slumbers away. I’ve loved being able to give him a hug whenever I want, love being able to stroke his hair off his forehead and love waking up to his face. BUT…we only have a queen-sized bed. With me being pregnant, Collin flopping all over all night, Mark being a tall person and the dog and cats trying to sneak in, there is no way this will work much longer. Makes me sad really, but on another note, I am looking forward to getting a full nights sleep. With Collin in bed with me, I wake up several times a night either to check on him or to take his leg out of my face.
That should do it for another week or so! Next time I write, I hope to be feeling better. My next OB appointment is Nov. 19.
Take care and stay warm.
~Jennifer
