September 10, 2003
Collin is 2 years, 2 months old.
I’m 24 weeks (6 months!) pg.
Pregnancy:
I’m six months pregnant already? In the beginning, things seem to be going pretty fast, then when I got really sick things seemed to be in slow motion, now they are back to flying by. I’m getting so anxious and excited to hold a baby again, to see those cute little fingers and toes, to smell that oh so precious aroma of sweetness and to hold up those teeny tiny itsy bitsy clothes!
I had my monthly OB check up on Monday, and all is well. The only thing I wasn’t pleased about was waiting an hour past my scheduled appointment time to even see my OB. She was running late because of a delivery that afternoon so everything was off schedule. Seems like every time I go, things are running late.
Blood pressure was good, urine was good, weight gain…well…I actually gained this month! I gained 10 pounds, putting my total to date at 14 pounds. When I saw the scale numbers I almost put my head down in shame because 10 pounds seems like a lot to gain in one month, but my OB said that there is nothing to worry about and she was glad I was feeling better enough to finally keep food down.
This month she started measuring me to see where my growth falls. I’m at 24 weeks and I measured 25 weeks. That’s fine because she said she’s okay with 2cm either way. With Collin I was always 2cm (or two weeks) ahead, sometimes 3.
I told my OB how I’ve been having lots of BH contractions this time around and she said that as long as I wasn’t having more than 4 and hour, that there shouldn’t be any reason to be worried. She said that since my body is “professional” now when it comes to pregnancy, I might be experiencing and feeling symptoms more and earlier. She said that most of the time when BH are coming too frequently, it’s an indication to sit down, drink some water and rest.
Next month is my last monthly visit before I start my biweekly appointments. At that visit I will have my glucose test (I got the Orange to take home and chill ice cold) and iron check and then schedule another ultrasound for the following week. We are having another ultrasound to check the baby’s heart and umbilical cord since the tech didn’t get a pristine picture (at our 18 week ultrasound) for the radiologist, even though she said everything looked great. I’m glad, because it gives us another peek and another chance to double-check the gender.
Other than that, things have been pretty ordinary, in terms of pregnancy woes and aches. My pubis bone, sciatica nerve and hips still hurt but that’s nothing new. The last week or so, I’ve been feeling so completely exhausted and run down. I’m thinking the baby must be going through a growth spurt. One moment I feel energized and the very next I’m dead on my feet feeling like I could nap for hours.
Collin:
Collin is doing fantastic with learning to use the potty. I made a treat jar and he gets a treat each time he goes on the big potty. I thought for sure he would have loved the miniature candy bars, but his favorite is always the Dum-Dum suckers. He goes potty several times a day and has even told me he had to go pee when he was in the bathtub last night. I took his soaking wet nudie butt to the toilet and he went right away, then he got back into the tub and finished his bath. Today he wore underwear all morning and part of the afternoon and didn’t have one accident so I think we are on our way. There was once that he forgot he didn't have on a diaper, started to go a tiny bit, went flailing into the bathroom and was ready to pee. He didn’t even ask for a treat that time, so I’m hoping we can end that part soon too.
Since we are on the bathroom subject, I forgot to mention in my previous entry how much Collin loves to take showers now. I had been asking him if he wanted to take a shower, because it’s faster and easier when in a hurry, and he always said no. One day Mark was on his way to the shower, we were trying to get ready to go somewhere and Collin was a mess. Mark took Collin in the shower with him and now Collin loves it. They have a little routine down where Collin gets all soapy, and then gets his hair washed, etc. You know how kids love repetition. There are many days that Collin will turn down a bath so that he can have a shower. I’ve taken him in a few times with me, but he much prefers going in with daddy. I don’t think I have the routine down.
Family Togetherness:
Last weekend we had a lot of fun and had some good quality family time together. Mark had Friday night off so we ordered take out and had a nice quiet evening at home. Saturday, Mark had to play a big motorcycle rally (at night) so we took Collin in the early afternoon (free admission for us) so he could see all the motorcycles, Harley's and motorbikes. There was live music, helicopter rides, a place you could hook up your bike to see how fast they go (and loud!), a swap meet (I’ve never seen so much leather!), a monster truck show, motorbike jumping, and food stands. They also had carnival games for kids but we never made it to that. Collin loved looking at all the motorcycles and he loved the live music. He definitely has the love for music in his blood. Of course the Hooters Girls were there too and one of Collin’s favorite things to exclaim is, “Hoooooter’s!!!” Then he cracks himself up laughing. It was hot so we only stayed a little over an hour, then Mark’s mom took us out to lunch.
Collin’s favorite were the jumping motorbikes, which he kept calling, ‘Oh my goodness!” because each time one would jump, Mark’s mom would say that. Even now he refers to them as, “Oh my goodness!” I keep telling him they are motorbikes but he likes his name better.
Later that night, Mark went back and played with the band. I guess at night it gets crazy and packed to the gills. They have things like a tattoo contest, a wet T-shirt contest, a beer garden, and mechanical bull rides. “Interesting” is all I have to say about that.
On Sunday, after a big breakfast of pancakes, sausage, eggs, and juice, we headed out. There was a Family Safety Day convention open to the public and we knew we wanted to take Collin. I’m so glad we did because he had a lot of fun. There were numerous booths giving out free information on everything you could think of and they were all giving out free goodies, toys, hats, balloons, pencils, flashing lights, badges, stickers, coloring books and a slew of other neat things. Does anyone remember Slim GoodBody on PBS? You know, the guy who wore the suit that showed his bones, muscles and organs? Anyway, the actual guy was doing a show on stage; there were puppet shows, a Ronald McDonald magic show and there were all kinds of people dressed in costumes and walking around to greet the children. The Crash Test Dummies were there, Ronald McDonald, McGruff the Crime Dog, Sniffasaraus the gas-sniffing dinosaur (Collin’s favorite!), and a pink elephant (not sure what he was there for but he was still cute!).
All the area city fire departments had their rigs out, the police were there with their cars, boats, and helicopter so the kids could take a tour and get up close to see the inside of each vehicle. They also had a jump house so the older kids could have some fun too. All in all, it was great and Collin had so much fun walking around. We left with lots of informative leaflets, a child identification kit and one tired kiddo!
This weekend Collin starts his third swim class. He took two before the age of 1 and we thought it was time to get him back in again. These are the type of “swim classes” that are basically parent/child. I love it because Mark and I get to get in with Collin and really have a good time. It’s family time and Collin loves the water.
Me, Myself & I:
I’m deep into watching Paradise Hotel I admit it; any other fans out there? If so, let me say that I can’t stand, and I borderline HATE, the whole Amy jerk group. I’m rooting for Keith, Dave, Charla and Tara! I also got sucked into watching Temptation Island 3. I love reality TV - I can’t help myself!
Some books I’ve read over the past several months are a few by Jude Deveraux, the 4th Harry Potter, I’m trying desperately to muddle my way through East of Eden, and then The Fountain Head is next on my list.
A couple movies we’ve seen over the past several months were American Wedding (hilarious!!!) and Freddie V. Jason.
Nothing much more to add this week but I’ll end with a list of things to love about September.
Take care,
~Jennifer
