Collin is 2 years old
I’m 18 weeks pg.
Our ultrasound wasn’t scheduled until 2:30pm this afternoon so I kept myself busy by cleaning the house from top to bottom, which pretty much ate up my entire morning. At 1:30 my MIL came over to watch Collin and I set out to go pick Mark up from work. We got to the hospital at 2:15, checked in and waited for 15 minutes while they registered me. I drank my required 40oz of water two hours prior to my appointment so I was about to blow by this time. I thought to myself, “please don’t sneeze. Please don’t sneeze.” Finally at 2:40 they called us back and started the ultrasound. Just our luck, as with Collin, the freakin ultrasound printer was broken! Thankfully I brought a blank video, just in case they allowed tapings and they did! She said that they normally only tape 3 or 4 minutes but since the printer was broken and we wouldn’t be leaving with any pictures, she taped the entire 20 minute ultrasound for us to have.
The tech was very nice and personable. She really seemed to know what she was doing and was FAST in measuring the beginning parts so that I could go use the bathroom. Ahhh…relief! After I came back we got to the good stuff, all measurements looked great, baby seemed to be healthy and growing right on schedule. The baby was moving all over, heartbeat at a steady 160, feet kicking, hands waving and we even saw the baby flip from back to stomach. It was so overwhelming to just sit and watch this precious angel moving around within me. I felt so blessed and in awe.
She asked if we wanted to know the gender and we immediately said, ‘YES!” She looked from several different angles and said that she could NOT find any boy parts. She looked and looked and looked again, just to be sure, and said she was pretty darned convinced we are having a GIRL!!!!! She said she couldn’t be 100% positive, but that since the baby was laying in a “V” (legs wide apart) she would be able to see boy parts if they were there and she sure didn’t see anything that resembled anything male. She also pointed out the three parallel lines that make up the girl parts so there you have it…WE ARE HAVING A GIRL!
At this moment, Mark’s eyes filled with tears as he kissed and rubbed my head. The tech asked if this was a good thing (since neither of us said anything when she announced it was a girl) and Mark choked out a, ‘Yes! We are thrilled because Jennifer’s mom always wanted a granddaughter.” That set me off and I was a weeping mess too.
I honestly would have been delighted beyond words if we were having another boy, but I am feeling very blessed that we get to experience having a daughter as well. I’m so happy and thankful that the baby is healthy and growing beautifully.
After our appointment we went to The Olive Garden and had a celebratory early dinner and stuffed ourselves as we talked about our family of four and how life was going to be with a little boy and a little girl. Even as we ate, Mark sat there with tears in his eyes. He always hoped he would one day get the blessed opportunity to have a little girl.
We got home and told Collin and to say that he was elated would be a huge understatement! This kid is soooo excited to have a little sister.
So there you have it, a baby girl in the making and looking to be healthy and of course beautiful! We changed a few things around and are having brunch with Mark’s family tomorrow (Saturday), instead of our original plan of Sunday, so we are telling them then. Also since Collin loves walking around saying his sister’s name, we’ve decided to go ahead and tell everyone. Check my TTM board for what we’ve chosen. We think it’s beautiful and unique and very special.
Thank you lord for the blessing of this healthy child,
~Jennifer
