Collin is 2 years, 4 months.
I’m 34 weeks pg.
SICK, SICK, SICK:
I’m still sick, but at least Collin is better. He’s back to running around the house, playing with his toys and being a little roustabout. Over the weekend my cold and sore throat got worse. I couldn’t breathe, could hardly swallow and my ears and head were killing me. I wasn’t getting any sleep at all and I was miserable. Early this week, I gave up went to one of those immediate/express care walk-in centers to get checked out. My co-pay is the same as if I would have went to my regular family practice doctor, and since the express care center was just down the street v. my FP doctor who is way across town, I opted for the express care. He tested me for strep and that came back negative, but he said I had an upper respiratory infection and that my lungs sounded all squeaky. He also said my glands were swollen and that I had some sinus infection so he went ahead and put me on amoxicillin for 10 days and told me to make a follow up appointment with my OB. I was feeling so lousy, that I even had to cancel my doula appointment that was scheduled for that night. When I called Rachel to tell her about having to cancel, she asked if we needed anything such as a hot meal or any errands ran. I thought that was so nice of her, given her extremely busy schedule. She’s coming to our house this Tuesday and we’ll go over everything we missed the first time, plus add everything we planned on talking about this time.
Since I’ve been sick and not feeling well, I just assumed the baby wasn’t moving as much as normal. Then I started getting paranoid and thinking that something was wrong. I went into my OB’s office on Friday for my follow up and the baby checked out just fine. Heartbeat was strong and she’s even head down now – yippy! My OB said that most likely she’s slowing down in movements due to running out of room along with me feeling sick and sluggish. She said that while I might not feel the “typical” four movements per hour, I should definitely feel something after having something to eat or drink - Especially if it’s a cold drink or something really sweet to eat. She wrote me a RX for a decongestant, which I don’t think I’ll get filled. Mainly because I’m just sick, sick, sick of taking pills and I figure that my congestion will probably clear up on it’s own in a few days anyway. Wouldn’t you know that as soon as I left the doctors office, the baby started kicking and moving around like she normally does! I’m back at my OB’s on Wednesday for my 34-week appointment.
GETTING ORGANIZED AND READY:
I started making my checklist and throwing a few things in my hospital bag. I’m also working on our birth plan and I’ve also washed all of Ireland’s clothes and have gotten the ones gathered that we are taking to the hospital. By next weekend I hope to be complete packed and have the bag ready and waiting by the bedroom door. Just a few days ago I realized that given my past, if I go into labor the same time frame I went with Collin (37 weeks) we could be meeting Ireland in THREE WEEKS! That made me want to kick things up a notch, just in case.
CHRISTMAS:
If you can believe it, our Christmas shopping is pretty much done. Now before you start thinking that I’m really organized and ahead of the game, I must admit we “cheated” at little this year. In the last month, SEVERAL VERY expensive things have come up. This along with the new baby coming right around Christmas and me not even feeling like standing in the long holiday lines, going out in the cold weather, etc. we’ve come to the conclusion that we just can’t afford to have a gigantic Christmas. Last year we went overboard and spent too much money on ourselves and on our friends and family. This year we are scaling it back – a lot! We had a talk with our family and have decided that to make it easier on everyone, we are only buying for the children. Mark and I talked about it and we’ve even decided to forgo the gift exchange to one another and just fill our stockings. Personally, this works out perfect for me. Not only do I LOVE buying gifts for children, but also stuffing the stockings is one of my favorite things to do! So anyway, a few weeks ago in the Sunday paper, Toys r Us had their annual Christmas big toy book. I scanned the book and realized that everything we had talked about buying Collin and the other kids on our list was in the book, either on sale or at a discount. I quickly tallied up the total and realized we also qualified for free shipping and the free Jumbo Simba (Lion King) plush animal with our order. The next day I jumped online and got to clicking. In a matter of an hour, I had all our “big” shopping taken care of and the order was on its way. Two days later all the gifts came to our door. Now how much more convenient can you get I ask?!
We got Collin a My First Leap Pad, a Magna-Doodle, a large carrying case for all his matchbox cars, a Silly 6-Pin talking bowling game, a set of 100 mega bloks in their new colors, and the Jumbo Simba. The only things left to get are the smaller items that can easily be found at Target or Wal-mart (PJ’s, slippers, markers, hotwheels, crayons, stickers, play-doh, etc.) and a gift card to send to my little 9-year-old cousin, Sam, in Oregon. I’m so relieved to have this done since I was dreading being out in the holiday rush while being so pregnant. Now it looks like we won’t even have to bother with any of the hustle and bustle and we can sit back and relax and really enjoy the season. That way, if the baby comes early, we are still all set for Christmas morning.
COLLIN’S NEW ROOM:
This weekend we are working on Collin’s big boy room. Today we are making the switch and are going to start the painting. It shouldn’t take us too long and I hope to have it done by Sunday afternoon. Since Collin has been sleeping with us (me), he’s told me that he no longer likes his crib and wants to give it to Ireland. Time to go shopping for a twin bed!
Have a great weekend!
