A NEAR TRAGEDY 06/12/03
As some of you may know, my parents live in Jerusalem, Israel as volunteers with a reputable organization that helps immigrants get on their feet and receive helpful supplies. Yesterday, I received a phone call from my mom who sounded somewhat frantic. She asked if I had heard of the bombing, and I replied that I had not. She told me that I needed to talk to my dad.
(Uh oh) My dad got on the phone and told me that he had just been standing at the bus stop that afternoon that was directly in line with the bus that was blown up. He said that he was no injured but he was very shaken up about it. The bomber had been standing right next to my dad when the bomber then boarded a bus that, thankfully my dad was not riding. He then blew
himself up. My dad described seeing the side of the bus explode into pieces
with glass and shards of metal flying directly at him. Amazingly, he was
unharmed. My dad started running toward home (he was downtown trying to get
home from work when this took place) and was attempting to reach my mom by cell phone. He finally got through and she sent someone to pick him up. When they got home, they told him not to look at his clothes. My dad
had pieces of body parts, blood, and flesh all over his clothes. It was at this
point that he broke down into hysterics. He couldn't believe what had just happened to him and the 24 that died for no purpose, and the 100 that were severely injured for no purpose.
Today, my mom emailed me to tell me that my dad is having a REALLY hard time functioning at all. I feel horrible for him. This is really taking its toll on him. He was given Valium for a couple of weeks and my mom said
she stopped him from going to work today. He really just needs to rest.
In other news, I leave for my trip to Jerusalem on the 21st of this month. My baby sister will be getting married on the 24th and I am SO excited to be going home. I will only be there for a week but it will be well worth it. I have been helping out my mom by getting a few things here in the US
for the wedding that would be a lot cheaper for her than having her buy it there. It has been a lot fun. Makes me want to re-evaluate my current job. Ha ha! Seriously, Christa and I were talking about how much fun it would be to become wedding planners. Doesn't that sound like a dream job??? :)

My mom called me today to update me on my dad. He is still having a REALLY hard time coping with everyday life. They had to take him back to the ER to be evaluated again because he was just doing really badly. I am anxious to get home and be with him. I leave this coming Saturday, the 21st.
Well, my job situation has turned sour once again. I am having trouble with a doctor who just doesn't think that I am up to snuff; Never mind the fact that he cusses at me everytime I tell him the ER is on the phone for him, or that he throws charts across his office. He has a bad temper and yet somehow he has decided that he can't work with ME. (What's wrong with this picture???) So I had a meeting with my bosses on Friday and will be meeting with the departmental supervisor on Monday to discuss this situation. It's stressing me out a bit. I hope that it resolves itself, otherwise I will be job hunting again.
Once again, I'm sorry that my updates have been few and far between. We have been having problems with our cable modem. We expect someone to come out and fix it soon.
If you want an update on my boys, please visit my other diary at www.childrentoday.com/diaries/heather.
Until next time,
Heather
