October 31, 2003: Halloween
Well we got the boys dressed in their costumes. Austin was the Incredible Hulk and Noah was a Football player. So cute! We picked daddy up from work and headed to the local mall. For a town this size we just like going to the mall. It is the safest place to take the kids. This mall has tons of stores in it and about 99% hand out candy. So we got there got the kids inside and started down one side. Workers were asking Noah for his autograph (since he was a major football player. HA!) And other told Austin they didn't want to make him mad, cause he would get GREAT big and green. He just smiled and giggled. It was cute! I figured we were in for a walk of the entire mall. But that wasn't the case. As we did walk and they got their candy, Noah insisted that the candy was to be handed TO him and then HE would put it in his bucket. I guess he had a little plan. ;-)
Not even half was through the mall Austin was ready to call it quits for the night. WOW! So we circled around and headed to JcPenney to get dad some PJ's. I took pictures of the boys and can't wait to get the film developed. They were too cute!
School
~~~~~~~
Well we have a parent teacher meeting the end of this week. Hope that goes well, but I am sure the teacher will like me even less after I voice my opinion on a few things that have happened. But I need to lay my cards out on the table and let her know what is going on, and how I feel. This meeting will be with me and the teacher. Don won't be able to make it. I will get to that in a minute though.
I only have till Feb. before my schooling is over. It is not going to get here soon enough! Even though I love school, I need it to be done NOW! For certian reasons. I passed my Sabre class with an A though. That city codes test was the one I was worried about, but when it came down too it I don't know why I was so worried. It was 260 cities or city codes we had to give the right answer for. I missed 3 outta all of that. And could have kicked myself for the ones I missed!
Noah
~~~~~~
Yeah, what a fireball he is! He is talking more and more. And repeating things I say. Now I have to REALLY watch my wording! I think he gets more independent and opinionated by the day. I have to say Noah keeps me on my toes and on the move. The only way I am getting this entry done is because he is napping right now.
Austin's Birthday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well it is fast approaching. Just 2 weeks left to go before he turns 7. 7! Gosh time flies. I just got a roll of film back and it was really old. Pictures of him at the age of 2! YIKES! A 5 year old roll of film. That will tell ya how far behind I am. This year just wasn't meant to be a year for big birthday parties around here. We have to alter Austin's party too. We are just having the grandparents over. Then later we will take him to Incredible Pizza. Gonna see if some of our friends want to join us. So we can all hang out and Austin will be around some friends.
Surgery
~~~~~~~~
Well it's on! Don goes in for open heart surgery Tuesday. Yes! This Tuesday, the 4th of the month. On our way to talk with the surgeon, we were talking about surgery and Don said, "well it's not like I will have surgery next week." Yeah then we find out he IS having surgery next week! All this time the cardiologist made this all seem like it was a small problem that would eventually have to be taken care of by an operation. Sometime down the road, in the future. Nothing seemed to make us think it was too serious. Though Don has been have chest pains on a constant basis, swelling, fatique, massive weight gain, etc. Well Don wanted to wait and have surgery after the holidays or after Feb. The cardiologist said it was doable. The surgeon said NO! They can hear the murmer, his heart beat is weak, and the surgeon said he seen that Don wanted to wait 6 months. Don is at that point NOW! The surgeon said he was very surprised Don hasn't had heart failure already. Freaked us out! Asked Don history questions, and all leading to that Don has probably had this all his life and it has just taken years before the problem got this bad. They will go in cut his chest cavity open, clamp off the valve, replace it with a mechanical one. Don will have to be on blood thinners from here on out, be in the hospital for 4-5 days. See the surgeon 3 weeks after surgery to start him back into small things, like driving, etc. We don't know for sure how long he will be off work. But it is a 95% that he will come out of surgery fine. That eases the mind some, but there is always in the back of my mind that "what if". It's scary! VERY SCARY!!!! Since we found all this out, family and friends have rallied to help and support us. I knew family was there for support, but this is beyond what I ever thought. We feel blessed to have these people in our lives and don't know how we will ever repay them. We all just want Don to come out of this better than before. He has not been "Don" for a long time.
This may be the last entry for a while. I don't know when I will get a chance to update after surgery. I have to make sure the boys are not jumping on Don and make sure my husband is as comfortable as he can be. It will be a long recovery road for him and together we will get through this. I will try to post after the operation or most likely have a friend do it for me.
