September 15, 2003

Are ya ready for an update? Well I will try my best to describe in words my first, but not last cruise. But first a little on the boys.

AUSTIN
~~~~~~~~~
Well while on the cruise I found out that Austin will be going in a level 1 reading class every week. We have struggled with his reading for some time. Yes, he can read, but not to the level that the system wants him at. So we filled out the papers so he can attend the class to benefit him. Of course Don forgot to turn it in. So it is up to me.
NOAH
~~~~~~~~
Well Grandma took Noah to his ENT appointment while I was away and found out that his right eardrum is healing great and is trying to push the tube out. The left side is not progressing as well and he will have to keep that tube at least through the winter. The ENT wants to see Noah in 6 months and see how he is doing and if he is not sounding out his words normal then Noah will go for speech theropy. Noah has a new phrase! He must have picked it up from Don! He now walks around saying "HI HONEY!" It is the cutest darn thing! We bought him some new shoes yesterday. The weather here has dipped down real fast and I wasn't prepared. Noah had no tennis shoes so off to the store we went. We got him the cutest darn sketchers! After getting home I realized they almost look like my sketchers! Except more a boy style. hehe! Now Austin wants a pair. SHEESH!

THE CRUISE
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sunday, September 7th 2003:
Don and I loaded up the suburban, Noah starts going into this awful tantrum. The wierdiest thing I ever witness from my kids! He must of sensed I was leaving. So we loaded, calmed Noah down and Don drove me to my friend A's house. Unloaded, gave the boys hugs and kisses and told them to help dad out and be good. Then hugged and kissed my honey good bye. I was sad to know that I wouldn't see him for 5 days. But I knew I needed this break. Went into A's house and waited for my other friend J to get there. J was our ride. J arrived and we loaded all the luggage into her car. That itself was a miracle! All of us had 2 check in bags a piece and a carry on and a purse. SHEESH! And crammed that all into a 2 door oldsmobile Alero. We are sooo good! Off to Kansas City we go! 3 girls in a car, totally excited about the upcoming cruise. We got to our hotel, checked in, unloaded our bags in the room, called home and then we out to eat at Ruby Tuesdays. Of course we all had a drink to try to calm ourselves down. It didn't help! Back to the hotel to shower before trying to sleep. Trying being the key word, cause none of us could sleep at all. 3 am comes so early in the morning, and we were at the airport at 4:40 am. We boarded the plane at 6:40 am, stopping in North Carolina then on to Miami. We arrived in Miami ahead of schedule. I then was ready for a cigarette! After being on and off a plane for about 5 hours I was ready to get off and smoke! So me, J, and A went out to smoke and wait with the class for the shuttles to arrive to take us to the cruise ship. Ahhh! Filled with excitement! I didn't see much of Florida, but what I saw I liked. We plan on going back soon. The shuttle took us to the ship, as the driver whips in and out of traffic like a crazy person. We finally arrive. WOW!!! OHHHHHH!!! AWWWWWW!!!! There it was Royal Caribbean's Majesty of the Seas! I thought to myself "oh my gosh I am actually going to go on a cruise!" So far I have taken my first shuttle ride, first plane trip, first time in Florida, and now going to go on my first cruise. The only bad thing was Don wasn't experiencing this with me.
We go through baggage and then report to get our room numbers and seapass cards. Note: The teachers said we didn't have to put much down on these seapass cards, last year the girls would put 50 at a time on them. Yeah well it was a $200 minimum then after the 200 you can put as little down as ya want. The seapass card is THE only was to get soda pop or alcoholic drinks, gifts, etc on the ship. They except no cash except in the casino. So we put the money on our card for our room and headed to see the room. As we entered this huge ship we all stopped and saw how beautiful it was. Glass, brass and black glass all around. Lighting galour! Staircases wrapping around the atrium. It was the most beautiful thing ever. My room was on the 4th deck. Mind you I have 2 other roomies, B and T. I about crapped when I see how dang small the room was, especially the bathroom. But it was only for 4 nights. I can manage. I mean come on a free cruise! So we got settled in and met the rest of the group at Windjammer Cafe. Which is a eatting area on the 11th and 12th floor. The 12th floor became my best friend. Ya could smoke on that floor. We met up with the class and the teachers went over what we would do that day and when to met back up. Later we took a tour of the ship and I truly was amazed at what all they had. A disco room, bingo, spa, fitness room, shops, lounges, casino, beauty salon, pools, bars, and the list goes on and on. After touring the ship we all split up and went our own ways for a while. Some of us checked out the casino and Scooners Lounge for a drink and to smoke. We then discovered there was soft serve ice cream. HEAVEN! Then out to the deck to watch as we shipped out to sea. It was great! Until about an hour later when I started feeling the rocking motion. The teacher, myself and a few others ran back to my room and popped some motion sickness pills. Then at 8:15 pm we met up at the dinner hall to eat. I wore my black dress pants, cocoa colored 3/4 length sleeved shirt and dress shoes. I could not believe the size of this dining room! It was huge! We all were seated, the head waiter, or in this case waitress came and introduced herself, Karen, and then the 2 assistant waiters came along. Our glasses were filled with water, menus handed to us. Asked what we wanted to drink. Pretty maroon linen table clothes on all tables, all plates and settings at each table, dinner rolls, flowers. It was perfect. Then the waitress placed our napkins in our laps and we proceded to order dinner. It was the way to live, at least for a week. I really don't remember what I ordered the first night. I think I was in such a daze that I just ordered something simple. Each night the waiters and waitresses would put on some kind of show. This night is was a parade of spinning plates, juggleing salt and pepper shakers and ended with the forming of a conga line. Loved it! Later we all went to On Your Toes, a dance club where we all sat around had a drink and laughed it up.
Stay tuned for more. Yes that was just night 1!
