Catherine's Diary Entries

September 5, 2003

The Labor Day weekend seemed almost a week long to me because so much was condensed into 3 days.I was cooking supper Friday evening and it was raining, yet again, when Carries car pulled into the drive. It had been 12 weeks since we had last seen one another - a long time for us!As she got out of the car,I took in her changed form at once.My baby - round & pregnant!I grabbed hold of her and that rounded tummy and just cried..... As I predicted,we spent a lot of time with our hands on her tummy that weekend.Susannah did kiss the baby & talked to her.Jacob would put his hand there for about 5 seconds, then say:"Nope, didnt feel anything".We all marveled at the US photos.Charles remarked, after seeing a very clear(I thought) US picture of girl parts,"but we still dont know FOR SURE that its a girl. To which Jacob replied:the only thing wiggling in that picture is her toes ..... where he gets these things,I DO not know.Must be because his IQ is right up there with Julias! Oddly, 18 yr old Will was very squeamish about feeling the baby move.He thought the idea was "just kind of wierd". Saturday,we went to a Lakeside art show in a neighboring community and then got back in the afternoon so that Carrie could meet up with her husb. & inlaws & go to the 1st Gator football game of the season.Rustys parents are also U of F alumnae and huge fans.Carrie called me from the stadium to report that while she was walking up the walkway to Rustys Uncles house to meet up with the fam,she slipped and fell on her side. Not what I wanted to hear!!!I wanted her to go in for FHTs and an US but she said she was fine.Sunday morning,we all went to church.Up until this point,Will had not made an appearance - he lives about 2 hrs away now where he is going to college at UNF & has been really busy fixing up his new house over there.Halfway through the service, the woman who was speaking at the moment, looked up and said in her country drawl "Hi darlin" and there was Will.It was one of those magical moments that I am coming to value more than gold - the whole family together. My eyes were teary the whole weekend. After lunch,we all loaded up and drove to the country to see Jean & Jose. They have been family friends for over 20 yrs now and have followed my family through a lot of changes.I first met them while still married to Caitlin & Wills dad & we were living about a 1/2 mile up the road from them.Ive had people ask questions about life at The Farm, where Carrie was born.Well,Jean & Jose have a genuine Farm lifestyle.Jose owns a Healthfood store and makes Tempeh. They have a funky older house out there as well as an older mobile home that is the kids zone. There are chickens and a garden & miniature horses and a trampoline and beautiful plants & trees everywhere - a regular paradise for children of all ages.Carrie was best friends with their 2 oldest,Daniel who shares the same birthday as Carrie & Lydia who is a year younger and was born on the Farm as well. And Will was born the same year as their 3rd child - Damien. Then they have Lani a beautiful 11 yr old. Some of Carrie & Wills fondest childhood memories center on this family & their home.when Carrie was younger she & Daniel & Lydia all had horses and used to ride back & forth to one anothers houses.I watched my sophisticated 18 yr old son turn into a young boy once more as he jumped on the trampoline, climbed a rope hanging from one of the trees, chopped at underbrush with a machete and just ran wild through the woods again. At one point Will looked at me and said "Its just so sad" and I knew he meant our time there as a family with his dad ending too quickly as well as his time to be a carefree boy out there. Its always a little bittersweet for all of us to return to that spot.Jacob & Susannah rode one of the miniature ponies who had an adorable little baby that looked like a stuffed animal! Sunday evening Will took off for his new abode,Carrie & Rusty and baby Amelia left for home and Caitlin went to her dads house. The house is always too quiet after weekends like that. The next day we took on this absurd job of moving our entire(well, almost) house around. We have a girls room and a boys room(which is also where the computer is) and a large room directly off of the kitchen that can be a dining room/family room or... and then a front room that can be either a dining room or LR/sitting room type of room.Well,we switched out the boys & girls rooms and those other rooms I mentioned. What a job! It was worse than moving really because at least with moving you have a lot of things packed in boxes. And Charles approach is just to move everything enmasse and have these huge piles of jumbled everything while I want to sort through each item and throw some stuff out and do things in a more orderly way.Now the dining room is in the front room and I made a sort of toy alcove at the far end & my little desk and wicker rocker are at the other end.The large room next to the kitchen is just a LR now with our giant sectional couch and that sort of thing. What a job! Tuesday Caitlin had braces put on her teeth and we spent most of the morning doing that and then fetching a hurting Caitlin Ibuprofen and yogurt and popsicles that afternoon.Wed Jacob & I officially kicked off our HSing year.Currently we have a tropical depression about to dump 10 inches or more of rain on us over the weekend.Sounds like a good weekend to rent some videos and relax.Which is just what I plan to do - any good video suggestions?a blessed weekend to all,Catherine
