Catherine's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

May 2, 2003

Spring has sprung here - certainly in our hearts because the weather here in N.FL already feels like summer.Except for the cool of the morning - my favorite time. I cant tell you how amazing it is to have a child that is pregnant! I keep saying to myself:My baby is having a baby! Shortly after Carries wonderful announcement, the morning sickness set in. We have been talking to each other almost every day. Wednesday night she called and said that during her 1st trimester class (that she is taking because they will waive her insurance deductible) all she could focus on was:What can I possibly try to eat tonight. On the way home she picked up some soup & salad and said that 10 minutes later she was ready to throw it in the trash can. Upon arriving home, she decided to go in and eat a bowl of cereal and then discovered (bad husband!) that Rusty had finished off the last of the cereal that morning. This is when she called me! Rusty was at a meeting so after I consoled her & talked to her for a minute she said:Ok,mom(actually she calls me Marmoset) Im going to take a deep breath & drive to the grocery store & buy some cereal! Last night she called to tell me that she had thrown up that morning(1st time). My poor baby! She is 8+ weeks,so hopefully she wont have much more of this. They are both teachers & only have about 3 more weeks left so I keep telling her to think about what a great summer they will have - she will be in her 2nd trimester shortly after they get out of school and will feel all perky again. As for me & my new body - I have been a thin person all of my life and evidently had an underlying adrenal problem much of my adult life.Well, the problem has been corrected and since December I have gained about 15 pounds!!! It is so strange for me.Im used to feeling as sleek as a teenager( my wweight stayed between 115-120 lbs) and now when I feel my own body it feels like I am touching someone else!!! A very unsettling thing. Well, back to Carrie (humor me please! I cant think of anything else right now!). She & Rusty had a consultation appt. with a birthcenter practice last Wednesday and they both really liked it and made an appt. for the big exam in a months time. They should be able to hear the heartbeat at that visit and Carrie has promised to call me on her cell phone so that I can hear it too! And my other children? My son Will is almost a high school graduate! My baby! He has been accepted at the University of the South (Sewanee) in Tennessee. Right now we are trying to get all of the financial aid issues in order so that it can happen. Its an expensive school and some say that he should go here in FL but this place just feels so right for him. Opinions? My soon to be 16 yr old Caitlin is about to get her drivers license and become mobile. My other baby! Can a mother stand so many important milestones at one time???? Thank God for my little ones who are happily looking forward to swimming lessons this summer. They help me keep my focus and get back to simple..... Hugs,Catherine A cute email Carrie sent me:

Just had to tell you! Yesterday at Labor of Love we were waiting to
talk with Marianne, the midwife. I was filling out a questionnaire and
Rusty was thumbing through some books on the coffee table. There was an
Anne Geddes book and I was surprised to see him pick it up and look
through it - (he has ALWAYS said "These pictures are sooo cheeeesy!!!").
But this time he actually started to get teary eyed just looking at
the pictures! It was cute! It is funny to see how your perspectives
change so quickly! I think going to the birth center just made it seem
that much more real for him. (Just wait until we hear the heartbeat!!!)

Love you,

Carrie
