Carmajo's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
December 17, 2003
I can't believe it has been over a month since my last diary entry. It just seems like there is not enough hours in the day. I only work (outside the home) 6 hours a day but it seems like once Adrianna is fast asleep in bed I need to lay my head down also. Today I actually have some time.
Early this morning I was dressed for work and finishing my last minute make-up touches when I heard Adrianna gagging in the living room. The first thing that went through my mind was that she was choking on something. I made a mad dash from the bathroom and found she was vomiting. I really hate seeing my little girl sick. I hate that unfortunately Mommy can't make this virus, flu or whatever go away. Anyway I am at home with Adrianna today so I thought I would sneak an entry in while she is napping.
**New with Adrianna**
Adrianna learned two new things while I was away on my trip to NYC. Daddy was hard at working teaching her how to "wink" and blow her nose correctly. The winking is really cute because she rapidly blinks both eyes while giving me this cute smile. We have been working on the nose blowing for quite awhile but now she has it down. For the longest time Adrianna would grab a kleenex, put it up to her nose and make a blowing noise through her lips. It was actually funny but it was not getting the job done.
Yeah for Daddy!
**My first trip away from Adrianna**
December 3rd at 10:30 p.m. I left for a bus trip to NYC for the weekend with my MIL and two SIL's. We slept all night and arrived in NYC (after many rest stops) Thursday at 2:00 p.m. We spent Thursday evening packing in so much sight seeing. We walked through Central Park, rode a rick-shaw (sp?) around Time Square and even viewed NYC from atop the Empire State Building. We walked for 6 hours that day exploring the city and it was truly amazing. We awoke early Friday morning to pack in as much as we could before the snowstorm hit.
We headed straight to the Ferry to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. We rode the ferry out just to meet the incoming snow. It was actually very beautiful. Next we headed to pay our respects at Ground Zero. I was very sad to find it was heavily under construction and it was snowing so hard by then that we did not get to see much from the indoor viewing area in the Financial Building. At this point we grabbed a cab to head back to our hotel on the Upper West Side. We spent the next 45 minutes with a cabby that did not know how to manuver a car in the snow. We made it safely back to the Riverside Towers Hotel. Friday evening we went the the spectacular Broadway Show, Phantom of the Opera. I must say this was the highlight of the trip in my opinion. We had the best seats in the house. Front row center of the balcony. I felt like I was right up in front of the stage. We also had an amazing pre-theater dinner across the street from the theater at Robert Emmett's. I hate to admit this but it was soooo nice to eat a good meal with only adults. No worry of throwing food or an attempted escape from the high chair. Anyway after the show we decided to hit the nightclub scene. We were given a recommendation of The China Club. It really was nothing like I thought it would be. We danced till 1:45 a.m. and have 5 rounds of drinks spending an enormous amount of cash but had a really fun time kicking loose. Saturday we took it easy taking in some shopping and food. We had lunch at a Original Ray's Pizza as seen on Food Network. We also visited our new fav NY bagel shop H and H Bagels. That evening we ate a late supper at a Pub just down the street from our hotel.
OH...I almost forget one exciting thing!
Friday morning we raced across NYC to the Early Show. We got there just in time to be on the outdoor weather broadcast that airs at 8:00 a.m. EST. We met and got our picture take with anchor Harry Smith and stood right next to Survivor outcast Christa and did not recognize her. Sad to report that was our only famous person sighting.
**Christmas**
Where has all the time gone? It seems like Thanksgiving was just yesterday. I am happy to report I have 90% of my shopping done. I am looking at all the unwrapped gifts right now plus more. I can't wait for Adrianna to awake on Christmas morning. I am not even going to take the chance of putting wrapped presents out until she is fast asleep on Christmas Eve. We bought her kids kitchen unit, a tricycle, a pretend vaccum, Wiggles doll Anthony, Wiggles Hot Potato game, a Wiggles DVD and several arts and crafts projects. I can't wait to play house with my daughter and even finger paint pictures for the refrigerator. I am so much loving Adrianna's age right now, can you tell? We have so much fun playing tea party, baby dolls and even dancing to the Wiggles. I sometimes feel like I am the fifth member of the Wiggles seeing that I can do every dance and sing every song.
**First call to 911**
If you have followed my previous diaries you will know in my "former life" pre-Adrianna I was a 911 dispatcher for a police-fire-ems department. I had to dial those dreaded 3 numbers last week after watching Adrianna fall from the couch. I was so close but I just could not reach her fast enought to catch her before her precious head hit the coffee table and then the floor. I scooped her off the grab immediately and cradled her telling her Mommy is here. Adrianna's eyes were rolling back over and over. My daughter is a klutz so she falls all the time but this time was different. She was breathing fine and crying strongly so I knew she was ok but I wanted a second opinion. I dialed 911 with a screaming child in my hands asking for help just like many mothers' had asked me for years ago. I must say the dispatcher that took my call was very professional and asked all the right questions. The ambulance was dispatched and arrived shortly. By this time Adrianna was acting fine. She was clutched to me. Her arms were wrapped tightly around my neck and her legs with around my waist. The medics checked her eyes, circulation and for bumps and bruises on her head. We decided mutally with the EMS to just observe Adrianna rather than a visit to the ER. She did fine all night long and was back in full force the next day.
**Questions**
1. How many words should a 21 month be saying? Adrianna has a few select favorite words that sound perfect but she is just not wanting to repeat or attempt new words.
2. Is 21 months too early to start potty training? Adrianna has really taken an interest in it so I started.
TTM and let me know what you think!
Happy Holidays!
Keep warm!
