Carmajo's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

August 13, 2003

Don't be confused by my title. We did make our trip out west to California. It was by far NO vacation for me. I spent most of my vacation chasing Adrianna around my in-laws non-babyproofed house and keeping her away from their cats. Adrianna has no fear and torments cats. She has been bitten 3 times by my SIL's cat. In short that was my entire vacation but here is the rest.

Sunday August 3, 2003 at 3:15 a.m. we set out for Columbus International Airport.
The truck was packed 3 suitcases in the bed of the truck and 2 carry on bags, Adrianna asleep in her carseat and Mommy & Daddy in the cab. I thought ahead and dressed Adrianna in a light elmo pants outfit so I would not need to change her clothing (only a clean diaper) and we were on the road with Adrianna asleep. What could be better eh? We hit a rain storm a few miles outside of Columbus. We had to stop and a truck stop, move the car seat and pull the suitcases inside the truck. Side note....Rob is now wet and Adrianna is awake. We finally made it to the airport, found the long term parking in a monsoon rainstorm. In the pouring rain we had to transfer our bags to a shelter and wait for a shuttle bus to pick us up. 3 buses drove right past us! I was fuming! I got Rob's golfing umbrella out and chased down the next bus! Do I have a "little" temper? maybe, ok YES! Rob and I were now soaked to the undies! What a way to travel!!
In the midst of all of this we encountered the new "kiosks" to check in rather than the plain jane ticket counter agent. What a joke, our last name was spelled wrong so it would not work. We finally got our boarding passes and then had to take our own bags through the security check point. I GREATLY suggest curbside check-in if possible. Our flight leaves at 7:00, at 6:45 they start pulling us out of the line and taking us to the front. It was such a relief because I really thought we would miss our flight. We were now aboard the plane enroute to California. Adrianna did really well. She began to fuss for 5 minutes or so and instantly fell asleep.
My lil' angel slept almost the whole flight to Atlanta. The rest of the flying time was pretty much the same. We arrived in San Diego at 9:52 a.m. with our tired bodies, a 17 month old in tow, two carry-on's and three bags to pull. What a sight huh?

The reason for the trip was for Rob to work with his Dad at his motorcycle shop to see if he would like to make a major career change and take a big leap from Ohio to the West Coast. My FIL does Harley Davidson mechanical work and dabbles a bit in custom bikes. If there are any Californian's reading my diary his business is Temecula Motorcyle in of course Temecula CA. I knew Rob would love it and he did! We still have not made a FINAL decision but if we do make the move it won't happen until next summer when we will be less a car payment and can rely on one income and still be able to eat. Our major concern is health insurance. I do not want to work full time and my FIL's business does not offer health insurance. We are exploring several avenue's of purchasing our own health insurance. If there are any readers out there with the inside scoop or that work in the health insurance field I would greatly appreciate any advice, information or leads on prospective companies.

We had already decided we wanted to take the tram up San Jacinto Mountain and eat at the resturant. Just our luck, when we arrived I went online to purchase tickets and found out the tram was closed the week we were visiting for maintenance. We ended up going to a petting zoo and country shop area in the Mountains. Adrianna absolutely LOVED the animals. I followed her like a "hawk" to make sure none of the animals would scare, hurt, bite my lil' girl. I had the "overprotective mother" sign hoovering over my head not to mention the disinfecting wipe I had ready at hand.

We spent the last night in San Diego since we had an early flight back home. We were in total awe with the area, weather and overall just LOVED San Diego. I would move there in a heartbeat but the job and family business in an hour northeast of there.
We took Adrianna for a stroll along the pier while bird watching. It was such a fun family time that I did not want it to end. I wish we could do things like that all the time and never have to return to the working world where bills need paid, house needs cleaned and laundry is piling up.

Homebound we were Sunday at the crack of dawn! The trip home was pretty uneventful. We were welcomed home to Ohio's lovely rain! YUCK! But in the same token, I am so glad to be in my own house.

Adrianna's new words!!!

A few weeks ago we had Adrianna's follow up with the ENT for the BMT surgery she had in June. She had bilateral tubes in her ears because of the 9 infections she had in 13 months. The ears look perfect with perfect tube placement. Adrianna had her first hearing exam done at the visit. I held her in the soundproof booth with no concerns until I realized the test had started and she was not responding. I am a very over-reactive person so I began to get nervous, holding back tears until she finally began to respond to the audiologist's voice. She barely passed the test but none the less she did pass. The doctor did suggest we repeat the test at 2 years old for a more accurate exam. One concern we have is a delay in Adrianna's speech development which could be a result of all her ear infections. She says Daddy, MAAA, ducky, doggy, kitty and EEE (binky for short.) She has developed a few new words in the last week or so. Juice is topping the list along with MINE! She is now saying bye bye when she waves bye to everyone even if they are not leaving. I expect to wake up one morning to the flood gates of Adrianna's vocabulary. I can't wait for this!

We are still dealing with the temper tantrums patiently. I am doing time-outs but they really do not seem to phase Adrianna. I am hoping this a stage she will grow out of soon. I have come to the conclusion if I don't react to the tantrum it ends very quickly. She is learning how to work her Mommy already.

It is another late night for me so I better end this entry. I have lots of work to be done before I have my garage sale next weekend. I plan to clear out a lot of junk and hope to make a few bucks for Christmas.

Till next week,

Carmajo & Adrianna

Here is a link to a recent photo of Adrianna and I with Rob's great grandmother Goldie. Sorry the pic is a bit fuzzy.
