Carmajo's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

August 9, 2004

It has been 2 months and 5 days since we left Ohio. We have been in California for 2 months and 2 days. We moved into our apartment just less that 2 months ago.
For myself and Adrianna it has been like a long extended vacation. We have enjoyed many afternoons at the pool. We started a daily ritual of visiting the park before the sun and heat began beating down on the Inland Empire of Southern California. We even joined a Mom's Club that is brand new here in Hemet.

Each week on one of Rob's days off being Sunday or Monday, we have been having a "family day." We have taken an outing to the Zoo, Wild Animal Park and two visits to Oceanside CA beach. It has truly been amazing. I am very greatful that I have been given this special time with my daughter. I know it has made her adjusting to such a huge move easier on her toddler mind.

Now I will be returning to the "real world" and back to work. We knew it was coming. It was part of our "master plan." Rob is basically self employed so providing the health insurance is up to me. It looks like I will be getting hired with the Riverside County Sheriff's Office as a Public Safety Communications Officer. I still have a heck of a process to go through with this job. Today was my background investigation interview. Next Tuesday I will have a polygraph examination.
I will be fingerprinted on my 33 birthday and hopefully well on my way to being employed.

I have such mixed feelings. You know how a Mom's emotions run wild. It feels like I am returning from maternity leave all over again. I have wanted to return to dispatching since almost immediately after stepping down from my position in Ohio. It just wasn't a job that was going to work with a newborn. Too much overtime added to constant understaffing made the decision for me within 3 weeks of returning.
Now Adrianna is approaching 2 1/2 years old and I am going to give it one more try.
Rob's career is a lot more flexible now so I won't feel like all the parenting pressure is one me. I hope and pray I am doing the right thing.

We have decided to enroll Adrianna in KinderCare rather than an home daycare.
I think I will feel much more comfortable with a structured enviornment. I will feel more in control because I will know what is going on each week. Adrianna has never been in a formal daycare setting. The 2 year old class is not too big. I am going to gradually phase her in to the daycare.
She will hopefully be starting next Tuesday for half of a day. Until I start working she will be attending Tuesday/Thursday 8a-noon. After I start working it will depend on my schedule.

I finally met two of my iParenting friends.
I met Jennifer H (MomsToday diarywriter) and Micki on the Born in March 2002 board.
We had been posting and chatting for awhile before we moved to California. Once we got settled we decided to all meet for a playdate at Micki's house near LA. Much to my amazement, I made the 2 hour drive without getting lost or missing any exits.
Jennifer's daughter Emily is so adorable!
Her speech and ability to repeat anything I said was amazing.
Micki's son Jackson and daughter Evie graciously shared their toys with Adrianna even after Adrianna broke one. I felt so awful. Jackson is such a cute little boy! I was so glad him and Adrianna did not "duke it out" over any toys. Jackson is a "Thomas the Train" lover and Adrianna recently developed a fascination with trains. Evie played right along with Adrianna and Emily in the kiddy pool. I took way too many pictures, most of which were out of focus.

Making friends here in California has proved to be difficult for me. Our apartment complex is not loaded with nice neighbors if you know what I mean. It was very nice to get together with Jennifer and Micki since it seemed almost like we already knew alot about each other from posting on iParenting and chatting.
Yeah, iParenting! Thanks to you I have made two new friends.

Congratulations to Laura K on the awesome news of her pregnancy! Katie is going to be a big sis! I can't wait to live vicariously through your 9 months of happiness without the MS. Hehe!

Happy Summer and thanks for reading!!!

Love,
Carmajo

P.S. Ooops, I almost forgot the most important information. Adrianna is now 2 ft 11 inches and weighs 31 lbs. She has gained 5 lbs since her 2 year well check. Way to go Adrianna!
