Carmajo's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

June 24, 2004

I have a few spare minutes while Adrianna is napping so I thought I would post a short update and throw a few questions out there.

We are nestled and snuggled into every inch of our apartment. We were amazed that we were able to squeeze everything (minus a chair and small computer desk) into our tiny apartment after 7 years of accumulation living in a 1600 sq ft house with full basement. I was glad to save the money of paying for a storage unit.
We are missing one thing, a kitchen table to eat on. We are eating our meals at the bar in the kitchen using folding chairs until we decide what to do.
DH has our monsterous computer desk set up in the dining room. It takes up most of the space but is well worth it because we just don't have any other space.

It is really starting to warm up here. Yesterday it was 88, sunny and very relaxing at the pool. I must say I enjoy the heat minus the Ohio humidity. We have yet to turn the AC on. Save $$$$$ yeah!
Adrianna is really turning into a fish. She is loving the pool so much we visit it every day as a sort of reward for good behavior. We have also found a really nice park we play at in the early morning before the sun starts blaring. Adrianna's pale complexion mixed with super sunscreen can only take so much sun so we plan our activities wisely.

Homesickness, yep I am feeling it already. I miss my parents so much! My Mom was always there for me for anything even a 15 minute break or just to chat on the phone. Yesterday I called her and ending the conversation she said "I'll see you tomorrow!" It brought tears to both of our eyes and to break the silence I asked if she was flying out here. It was very hard!
I guess to sum it all up the saying "you don't what you got until it is gone" says it all. I have a wonderful set of parents that I love very much.

Adrianna's vocabulary has rocketed! She is saying so many new words. Here are a few:
hot
chocolate
bubbles
blue
purple
red
baby
pop
and many more that don't come to my mind right away.
We have been battling a few behavior issues but I am not going to fret yet but chalk them up to the major life change Adrianna has experienced in the past few weeks. I think she is now realizing this is not a short vacation but rather her new home.

Trying to make new friends is alot more difficult than I thought it would be. I have met a few nice Moms at the pool but everyone seems to be real reserved and not friendly. They will say a short "hello" but beyond that it's nothing. It is frustrating because I was hoping to find another Mom and child close to Adrianna's age so she would have a friend to play with in the apartment complex. I haven't given up yet thought. My daily visits to a neighborhood park are my next step.

The jobhunting is going on hot and heavy. I have applied for several jobs in law enforcement and dispatching. I have already take one civil service exam, passed and waiting for the interview on July 20th. This Saturday I am taking another exam for a dispatching position with the sheriff's office and hope to snag this job considering they have 29 positions available at this time. I won't be jumping for joy yet because my last test had over 100 applicants. Yikes, I am not used to that large of lines for what a few jobs. Scary but I have to keep a positive attitude and know the right job will fall into my lap.

Childcare is another issue I have been filing in the back of my mind. I found quite a few state licensed facilities here in town. I am going to try and visit this one particular home daycare on Monday when DH is on his day off. I would like to have a few facilities checked out and on my OK list before I have a job offer so I feel comfortable and not rushed in finding a safe, loving enviorment for my daughter.

Ok, my questions for you ladies:

1. What is your child's favorite activity?

2. What is your child's fav meal?

3. Does anyone have a magical way to wean a toddler from the binky?

Hope the sun is shining at your home!

Hugs,
Carmajo
