June 5, 2004
Here I am at 5:27 am California time wide wake online, still stuck on Ohio time.
Rob and Adrianna are sound asleep snuggled in bed.
After 3 days of stressful driving with a 2 year old, we made to our new hometown of Hemet California. I tried to sneek a peek of our apartment yesterday but it is being clean painted and carpets cleaned so we are going to go see a model today. Darn, darn! I hope it is ready soon because we are yet again staying with family.
Just a few details of our trip:
Left Ohio Friday June 4th at 6:15 pm after a delicious dinner at Lone Star Steak House with our parents.
Arrived in Springfield Missouri at 2:00 am Ohio time to bunk down for the night.
Adrianna fell asleep while watching Dora the Explorer movies 2 hours into the drive.
Left Missouri the following morning around 10:00 am and drove west.
We made our next stop in Texas for supper and some playtime outside with Adrianna.
Oh wait a minute we stopped in Oklahoma City to get some stretching while shopping at Best Buy! Adrianna picked out 2 new Dora DVD's and Shrek movie. We next stopped for ice cream to reward Adrianna for being so good. Yum, yum!
Now back on the road and the next stop is in Texas for supper at a little truck stop diner.
Back on the road we drove until 12:30 am and bunked down again in Moriarty New Mexico along with lots of motorcross fans who flocked to the area. We were out the minute our weary heads hit the pillows.
The next morning we awoke before Adrianna, which is a miracle. After a nice morning waking show to wash away the dust from the desert we headed to McDonald's for breakfast and some playtime for Adrianna. We had to find the world' s worst McDonalds'! It took 45 minutes (no kidding) to get 2 breakfast burrito meals and hotcakes and sausage. Needless to say, Rob started out in fabulous mood :(
With lots of more miles to get underneath our belt, we loaded back in our mini van and hit the road.
Our next stop was in Winslow Arizona, just like the song "take it easy...." I forget the singer but it was not quite a site to see from Interstate 40 like to songs claims.
We played at yet another McDonald's playland and ran into our first playground bully.
I heard Adrianna crying and screaming "Mamaaa!" I somehow got my 32 year old out of shape body in the plastic tubed equipment and found this lil' boy yelling at Adrianna while trying to pull her around by her leg. My motherly instincts kicked in full gear and I let out a stern "let her go now!" and felt guilty afterwards. The guilt only lasted a few minutes until I watched this lil' boy torment another girl. Now after this incident Adrianna will not play in the McDonald's equipment.
Back to the road, our home sweet home! We decided to make this a relaxing evening and just drove to Pheonix to bunk down and watch the season finale of Soprano's.
The heat was kicked up a notch in Pheonix to a warm 102 at 6:00 pm. No humidity made it bareable but we took a evening swim much to Adrianna's delight.
The kicker of this stop was the nice Ramada Inn we stayed out did not have HBO, only Showtime. Who watches Showtime these days? Nada....So we missed the season finale but hope to catch it later or find someone who taped it.
We had our free yummy breakfast the next morning :) Fresh waffles, fruit, cereal, bagels and doughnuts galore. We set on our course in the sturdy old purple Plymouth Voyager after filling our tank with "gold" gasoline. $2.35 per gallon is the asking price out west.
Yikes!!! Surprisingly, prior the reaching AZ gasoline was even cheaper than Ohio.
We made our next stop in Thousand Palms CA at your fav hot stop McDonald's Playland. Still leary of the playland, Adrianna watched from the sidelines while munching on her chicky nuggets Happy Meal.
Back to Interstate 10 and heading for Hemet. We drove through some really hot, deserted desert area. I could feel the heat by touching the windows while relaxing in the cool airconditioning. Hmmmmm, are we there yet? About 1 1/2 hours later we pulled up out front of Rob's Dad's house. We made it!!!!!
Thank you to all of our family and friends' who has supported us in this adventure!
Rob and I have been talking about making this huge leap since a vacation here in 1999 and finally to the chance. You only live once so you might as well live life to it's fullest.
Who knows how California will treat us but if for some reason it doesn't work out we can always come back home which will always be Ohio with our families.
Love and Hugs,
Carmajo
