iParenting writers/readers!

Let me begin by mentioning that if anyone is interested in getting together, there are several of us trying to plan an iParenting gathering in Nashville, TN sometime in June/July. We would love to have more people join us - please stop by Kelly's MT TTM board if you are interested! (Unfortunately, most of us that are trying to get together have no TTM board!)

Jay

Jay went to the doctor yesterday for his two month visit. He weighed in at 10 lbs. 12 ozs. (15th percentile) and is 22 3/4 inches long (50th percentile). He had four shots, poor baby - HIB, DTaP, IPV, and Prevnar. They gave him Tylenol right away, but he still spent the rest of the evening and much of today just miserable. I feel so bad for him!

He also has right-neck Torticollis, in which the muscles in that side of his neck are tight and are limiting neck movement. I mentioned to his pediatrician that he rarely turns his head to the left, and this is why. It is also why he has a really flat skull on that side. She gave me neck-stretching exercises to do with him, and also recommended that I get a side-positioning sleeper for him and place him on his left side. She said if there's not improvement by his four-month visit that she would refer him to physical therapy. If one month of PT does not improve things, then he would be sent to have what's called a DOC Band (like a helmet) fitted to shape his skull properly. (Sarah, if you are around, I'd love for you to drop me a line with more about this on my old TTM board at http://interact.iparenting.com//postlist.php?Cat=&Board=ptcara I've followed you with your adventures with Hannah!) The Dr. said that PT and exercises at home work about 85% of the time. So, we shall see. Other than that, he's a perfect picture of health. I just love this pediatrician. I have never understood when others have said this about their kids' doctors, but now I do. She walks in and sits down and makes me feel like we are old friends. We talk about breastfeeding and regaining your figure after childbirth and raising kids (she looks like she couldn't be any older than 30, looks like she wears, oh, a size 2-4, and has *four* kids!) She really is wonderful, though.

Jay is beginning to coo and make little aah aah aah sounds. Very cute! His smiles are still the most beautiful thing in the world to me right now. I don't know how we ever lived without him!

Dylan

This boy is just growing up right before my very eyes. His favorite phrase of the moment is "Uh-oh! That's ok, mommy. I can fix it!" Tommy and I are able to understand about 85% of what he says, but for strangers, that number is probably much much lower. However, if you knew him in the past, you'd be able to see how he has just made leaps and bounds in his vocabulary in the past few months. I am so proud of him and am so not ready for him to grow up!

Liah

Liah is just too darn smart for her own good. She amazes me with the things she says and does. The other day we were sitting at a red light, and she yells out "Change light!" Lo and behold, the light changed to green. She gets this gleeful tone in her voice and goes "Mommy, I am so powerful! Did you see how powerful I am? I made that light change!" Huh? Powerful? Where on earth does she learn these things? She has also learned to play hopscotch (they love sidewalk chalk) the correct way, and has learned to count backwards from 10 to 1. Oh, and she came into my bedroom as I was nursing Jay before getting up the other day and tells me that Dylan was VERY wet, so she changed his diaper for him!!! She never ceases to amaze me.

Other news

We got our yard cut for the first time this spring/summer yesterday, and it really looks wonderful! We will be setting up a swingset in the backyard in the next couple of weeks, so that will be really nice. We had a cookout yesterday with good friends of ours - guys that Tommy works with and their wives. The kids and the adults alike all had a good time. This is the part I love about summer! The house is really starting to come together too. I finally finished the kids' playroom, and it is just great! I wish I'd had a playroom like that when I was a kid. I have curtains hung in all of the rooms, and pictures have gone up, too. Dylan got all kinds of horsey decor for his birthday, and his room has really shaped up. I have some other things on order for the living room... it is really beginning to feel like home!

I am going to go and cut this short, as I am knee-deep in laundry and packing so that I can go visit my parents for the Easter weekend. I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter!

Take care,
Cara and everyone else!
